When most agents think about negotiations, they picture being pushy, holding firm, and “winning” the deal. But the problem is, being so focused on winning can actually create the ultimate loss for the client and you. The majority of deals aren't lost because of price. They're lost because of poor communication between agents, between clients, and in how we present offers in the first place. Negotiation isn't about arm-wrestling the other side into submission. It's about finding common ground, keeping emotions in check, and making sure every party feels heard. Sometimes the best deal isn't the highest offer or the lowest price, it's the one that saves your client from bigger losses down the road. What subtle language shifts prevent client resistance? Can delaying a decision lead to better outcomes? In this episode of Level Up, we pull back the curtain on what kills negotiations, and the counterintuitive strategies that save deals most agents fumble. Things You'll Learn In This Episode The “best deal” isn't always the highest price Sometimes protecting your client means selling lower or buying faster to avoid bigger losses. How do you spot when the smartest play isn't the most obvious one? The psychology of being heard Clients don't need to win every point; they just need to feel listened to. How can a simple shift in how you acknowledge their emotions keep negotiations from collapsing? The pause button strategy Walking away for a night can be more powerful than pushing for a yes in the moment. Why does “sleeping on it” so often turn dead deals into signed contracts? Don't get tunnel vision on price Terms, timelines, and conditions often carry more weight than numbers. How do top negotiators use these levers to close deals that most agents lose? About Your Host Greg Harrelson is a real estate agent, coach, trainer, and owner of Century 21 The Harrelson Group. He has been in the real estate business for over 30 years and has been professionally trained by coaches like Mike, Matthew, Tom Ferry, Chet Holmes, and Tony Robbins. His goal is to empower his clients with the information necessary to make sound financial decisions while being sensitive to the experience one is looking for in real estate ownership. The Harrelson Group has been the leading office in the Myrtle Beach real estate market for years, and they have recently added a new office in Charleston, SC. Guest Host Abe Safa is a highly experienced real estate expert with over two decades in the industry. He is a key leader at Century 21 The Harrelson Group, where he specializes in helping clients navigate complex real estate transactions with ease. In addition to his role at Century 21, Abe is a sought-after mentor and speaker, sharing his expertise through seminars and coaching programs to help other agents succeed in the competitive real estate market. What if the thing you see as your biggest weakness is actually your greatest asset? This week, I'm sharing one of the best lessons I ever got from a dance professor: “If you can't fix it, feature it.” At the time, it was about choreography—but over the years, I've realized it applies to business too. From my gray hair patch (that my stylist insists I feature!) to running a home studio out of my basement in the early days, to building six-week sessions that turned into our most profitable program—what started as “flaws” or “detriments” became the exact reasons people trusted and chose my business.Inside this episode, you'll hear:

The most successful people aren't the ones who learned to be perfect. They're the ones who learned to be real. Genea welcomes Carrie Trabue, former trial lawyer and CEO, for a conversation that cuts straight to the heart of what it takes to step into your authentic power. From surviving sexual harassment in her early legal career to launching LawSphere at midlife, Carrie's journey reveals how our greatest challenges often become our greatest strengths. This episode explores the messy, necessary process of shedding the versions of ourselves we created to survive, fit in, and keep others comfortable. It's about the courage required to move from background singer to lead singer in your own life. Here's the transformation you'll witness:
Minister Marilyn Smith of Overcomers Christian Center ministered on our Minister's Night from II Peter 3:18 on the necessity for ministers and laity to level up in their faith journey with Christ. She challenged us to mature in the Word of God and the assignment that God has for us by developing a relationship with Him. Scripture: II Peter 3:18 - but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
About Eric Recker:Dr. Eric Recker is a dentist, husband, father, keynote speaker, Elite Success Coach, author, pilot, mountain climber, and recovering triathlete. In the second half of life, he's dedicated to helping others close the gap to their best selves and master the art of living in the moment—what he calls #WINtheNOW. In this episode, Dean Newlund and Eric Recker discuss:Why clarity of purpose must come before achievementUsing small daily actions to build lasting resilienceEmbracing challenges as opportunities for personal growthStaying present and practicing gratitude in everyday lifeApplying the mountain-climbing metaphor to life's mental and emotional obstacles Key Takeaways:Achievements feel richer and more sustainable when pursued with a clearly defined and deeply personal “why” rather than chasing goals for the sake of appearance, status, or external validation.Keeping a daily log of both small wins and the lessons learned from setbacks can train the brain to focus on the positive, build gratitude, and create a more balanced and resilient mindset over time.Incorporating simple “micro-resilience” practices—like a two-minute power pose, short mindful walks, or intentional deep breathing—can quickly shift energy and mindset, helping you recover focus throughout the day.Exploring new interests through small, low-risk experiments instead of waiting for the “perfect” passion to reveal itself allows you to discover what truly excites you and prevents years of feeling stuck in uncertainty. "If you don't know why you're climbing the mountain, you're not going to find the answer at the top.” — Eric Recker Connect with Eric Recker: Website: https://ericrecker.comBook: The False Sense of Urgency and How to #WINtheNOW: https://ericrecker.com/book-info/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/eric-recker-583849278/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/eric.recker.1Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/docrecker/ See Dean's TedTalk “Why Business Needs Intuition” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEq9IYvgV7I Connect with Dean:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgqRK8GC8jBIFYPmECUCMkwWebsite: https://www.mfileadership.com/The Mission Statement E-Newsletter: https://www.mfileadership.com/blog/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/deannewlund/X (Twitter): https://twitter.com/deannewlundFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/MissionFacilitators/Email: dean.newlund@mfileadership.comPhone: 1-800-926-7370 Audio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions.
