He is the author of the poetry collection How to Communicate (W. W. Norton & Company, 2022) and the essay collection Where I Stand (Handtype Press, 2014). On October 18, 1996, 15-year-old Brian Bowling and his friend, 17-year-old Cain Storey, were in Brian's bedroom in Silver Creek, GA when a gun went off and shot Bowling in the head, ultimately killing him. Storey initially claimed that Bowling shot himself while playing a game, however, he later falsely confessed to shooting Bowling, and was subsequently convicted of his murder. During the investigation, 17-year-old Daryl “Lee” Clark also became a suspect as the state believed that he acted as an accomplice who helped kill Bowling to exact revenge for an unrelated event. Despite evidence supporting the fact that Bowling accidentally shot himself, and Storey's assertion that Clark was not present on the night in question, false testimony led to Clark's conviction and ultimate life sentence. National Poetry Month is officially over, but we couldn't get too far into May without hearing from one more poet who is a finalist for this year's Minnesota Book Award. The winners will be announced on Tuesday. John Lee Clark is the author of the poetry collection How to Communicate and he lives in Saint Paul. He is DeafBlind and a leader in the Protactile movement – it centers on a language that uses touch. Clark spoke with host Cathy Wurzer. In this conversation, you'll be hearing the voice of interpreter Halene Anderson.

Although many hearing and sighted people imagine DeafBlind life in tragic terms, as an experience of isolation and darkness, the poet John Lee Clark's writing is full of joy. It's funny and surprising, mapping the contours of a regular life marked by common pleasures and frustrations. Clark, who was born Deaf and lost his sight at a young age, has established himself not just as a writer and translator but as a scholar of Deaf and DeafBlind literature. His new collection, “How to Communicate,” includes original works and translations from American Sign Language and Protactile. He speaks with the contributor Andrew Leland, who is working on a book about his own experience of losing his sight in adulthood.

When they were 17 years old, Lee Clark and Joshua Cain Storey were wrongfully convicted of murdering Brian Bowling. On Thursday, December 8, 2022 they were exonerated of that murder conviction and walked out of jail as free men. The High Priest of Turmiz It is rumored that the raspy voice of the long-interred High Priest echoes down the ages whispering invocations. Lee Clark Zumpe has been writing and publishing horror, dark fantasy and speculative fiction since the late 1990s. His short stories and poetry have appeared in a variety of publications such as Weird Tales, and Space and Time; and in anthologies such as The Children of Gla'aki, Best New Zombie Tales Vol. 3, Corridors, and The Call of Poohthulhu. His work has earned several honorable mentions in The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror collections.
