Tooky and Marissa debate a few important issues from this episode. Was Annie being a brat to her mom, or was she right? Was Annie’s dad being patriarchal, or a good husband? Would Ryan be a good “trip sitter?” Would you get back together with him just because he made you a grilled cheese? But they both agree on one thing: more fat girl sex on tv please. Tooky and Marissa have a heartfelt conversation about how body image impacted their challenging adolescent years. They pull back the curtain and discuss how factors like size, gender, and race have played into the way they take up space in the world. Also why the fuck do high schools still make kids run the mile in front of each other? So rude.
Comedy fan and critic Amma Marfo joins the Loud Women to talk about her favorite Aidy Bryant project, the Amazon series Danger and Eggs. This children's show is a model for inclusivity and representation... and it's really funny. The loud ladies discuss the messages Danger and Eggs is sending to children, both the subtle and not so subtle. (I mean... they literally explain confirmation bias to kids. It's unreal.) Hear more from Amma at https://ammamarfo.com or @ammamarfo if you wanna get personal.
Finally, at long last, we have a release date for Shrill on Hulu. Tooky and Marissa unpack everything we now know about the upcoming show and gush some more about Aidy Bryant. We talk about nasty the internet trolls we've dealt with, try to figure out who motivates these people, and discuss dream casting for the significant troll in Lindy West's book.
