Two dads who read between the lines in kid's movies.
As we head into our final episode on Aladdin, a final Hopsecutioner is poured. We enjoy the fireworks between Aladdin and Jasmine as they discover a whole new world, only to have a perfect night ruined by corrupt guards who are clearly loyal to Jafar and not the sultan. This sets Aladdin up for a triumph over Jafar, but his fear and uncertainty leave the door open for Jafar to make one last grab for the lamp. In the final conflict, Aladdin has a chance to show his true virtue while Jafar's prison of envy suddenly becomes starkly real. And of course, a few lovely tangents on whales, submarines, and wishes. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pints-and-princesses/message
In this episode, we dive right into a discussion of the Genie and his antics as he transforms Aladdin into a prince. After a cool drink of water, we proceed into the romantic entanglement between Aladdin and Jasmine right up until Aladdin takes that fatal step. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pints-and-princesses/message
In this continuation of our discussion of Aladdin, we muse about mystic blue diamonds which leads us to try a beer without the A. As Jasmine and Aladdin meet and get to know one another, our tangential tendencies triumph once or twice. We close by opening an IPA with 1.21 gigawatts of flavor as we discuss the many lies of Jafar. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pints-and-princesses/message

In part 3, we discuss the action packed conclusion of Beauty and the Beast, with daring scissor fights and a prince in disguise. It all begins when the Beast demonstrates his love with a sacrifice. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pints-and-princesses/message
Here we continue our discussion of Beauty and the Beast. We admire the Beast's intense presence and physical prowess, Belle's unflappable demeanor and powerful insight, and Gaston's hairy chest and great expectorations. It picks up as Phillipe returns without Maurice and concludes with Chip wondering what has changed between Belle and the Beast. Throughout, we continue to enjoy a pint you could snuggle up to at a provincial tavern and a French white appropriate for a banquet at a Baroque castle. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pints-and-princesses/message
In this episode, we begin our discussion of Beauty and the Beast. We begin with a golden ale that we imagine might be typical of provincial France accompanied by authentic baguettes. Sipping and crunching, we begin with a discussion of the historic background of the tale and some interesting notes about the production of the animated film. We begin to explore the film's beauty and strengths, transitioning to a Sauvignon Blanc (which is, in fact, a type of green grape distinct from the Cabernet Sauvignon) from the Loire Valley of France as we muse on Belle's impressive poise as she navigates Gaston's pig-headed proposal. This episode concludes with Belle yearning for adventure in the great wide somewhere, just as Phillipe returns, but without Maurice... --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pints-and-princesses/message
Join us for the conclusion of our discussion on The Little Mermaid. We walk through the climactic sequence that concludes the little mermaid, leading to a restored world and the union between two kingdoms. Listen in and decide for yourself. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pints-and-princesses/message
In this episode, we continue with our discussion of The Little Mermaid, picking up just after Ariel rescues Eric. We discuss the conflict between Ariel and Triton as it fully develops, with Triton resorting to force leading to Ariel's full rebellion and decision to seek help from Ursula. We watch Ursula close her trap around Ariel and consider the details of the contract. In this episode, we begin our discussion of the 1959 film Sleeping Beauty. While enjoying the light complexity of a Belgian-style blonde, we discuss the fairy tale context for sleeping beauty and the state of Disney during production and leading to release. This leads us into the first act where the major characters are introduced at the celebration of Aurora's birth and the blessings and curse are laid. The fairies plan while we try a gingerbread homebrew Jake and his brothers made. This episode concludes in a glade in the woods where Aurora and Phillip meet and then part.
