Episode 98; Available Now The final three episodes of Social Animals are here. And they're all me! I invited some close friends of the podcast back to turn the tables and ask me the questions I've spent the last five years asking others. This episode features:
Send us a textA tart key lime pie martini with a graham cracker rim is our catalyst for a full‑tilt imagineering session: if Disney's rumored expansions really land, which ones would we sprint to first—and why? We map out five bold concepts and give each a heartbeat with ride systems, restaurants, and signature cocktails you can practically taste. We start with Monstropolis, where a suspended “door vault” coaster could deliver a rare Disney sweet spot: thrilling enough for teens, whimsical enough for kids, and endlessly re‑rideable. Think Harry Hausen's sushi with a crisp saketini and a playful gummy‑eye garnish, plus a refreshed show space to keep crowds moving. Then we dive into Villains Land, sketching two e‑ticket anchors and a moody multi‑room “Lair” where each chamber channels a different baddie—Sazerac for Dr. Facilier, spice‑bright North African notes for Jafar, and dry‑ice theatrics fit for the Evil Queen. It lives on street energy: sharp character improv, quotable one‑liners, and wicked photo ops.Next up, Piston Peak shifts gears to Rocky Mountain grit: an off‑road racing experience, a family ride, and hearty comfort food. Picture bison burgers, green‑chile sides, huckleberry desserts, and a reservation‑only beer and whiskey lounge to finally give Magic Kingdom a grown‑up hideout. Over at DCA, Pandora: The Way of Water remains murky but promising; we imagine a headline water ride with glowing foliage, plus a California‑leaning canteen that balances bioluminescent looks with clean, craveable flavors. Finally, Tropical Americas blends Encanto's color and music with an Indiana Jones overlay. The aesthetics could be breathtaking—string lights, carved wood, and a nightly plaza party—powered by a proper caipirinha bar and savory South American plates that make you linger. We wrap with our predicted build order and a simple truth: rides hook guests, but food, drinks, music, and playful spaces make lands sticky. Hit play, then tell us which concept should get greenlit first. If you enjoy these big‑swing blueprints, subscribe, share with a Disney‑loving friend, and drop a review so more fans can find the show.
In this episode of The Rainmaker Podcast, Gui Costin interviews Neda Jafar, a partner at Kimmeridge, to discuss her journey, leadership philosophy, and the evolution of investor relations within a growing private equity firm. Neda offers a unique perspective shaped by her technical background in engineering and her experience building Kimmeridge's fundraising and investor communications platform from the ground up.The conversation begins with Neda's origin story—growing up in Connecticut in a multicultural family, studying operations research at Cornell, and entering finance through roles at GE and HSBC. She later joined Kimmeridge in its early stages, where she initially handled everything from accounting to IT. Over time, she found her niche in investor relations, eventually becoming a strategic leader within the firm. Her early exposure to both technical and financial disciplines laid the foundation for her ability to engage deeply with complex investments and communicate them effectively to investors.Neda discusses the philosophy behind Kimmeridge's investment strategy, which emphasizes a technical, data-driven approach to energy investing. With $6 billion in assets under management, the firm is diversified across upstream energy, public activism, and energy transition strategies—including Chestnut Carbon, a nature-based carbon removal business that Neda helped incubate. Her involvement in underwriting and scaling portfolio companies gives her credibility and fluency in investor discussions, enabling her to build trust through substance and insight.A recurring theme in the episode is the importance of communication—both internal and external. Neda shares how she structured Kimmeridge's investor relations team by client type, tailoring outreach to the specific needs of pensions, sovereign wealth funds, family offices, and other investor categories. She emphasizes the value of storytelling in simplifying complex investment theses without losing nuance, noting that connecting authentically with investors is more effective than giving polished lectures.Internally, she highlights the importance of clear, consistent communication across teams, especially in a scaling organization. Tools like Salesforce and Tableau have been game-changers, helping the firm track engagement, manage investor relationships, and build institutional memory. Neda candidly acknowledges that implementing CRM systems is a “new muscle” for many teams but argues it's essential for scaling with discipline and visibility. On leadership, Neda speaks about transitioning from an individual contributor to a team leader, emphasizing authenticity, resilience, and high standards. She believes great fundraisers and investors need to understand each other's roles deeply, and encourages more real-time exposure for investment professionals to investor feedback. The episode closes with reflections on company culture, growth challenges, and advice for young professionals entering the industry. Neda encourages newcomers to be curious, take risks, and build relationships across their organizations. Her parting wisdom—“don't hide at your desk”—captures the spirit of her approach: proactive, relational, and grounded in continuous learning.Overall, the episode is a rich look at what it takes to build and lead a high-performing investor relations function, with practical insights on scaling, communication, leadership, and strategy.Tired of chasing outdated leads? This Week in Geek's Loose Cannon is our all around movies podcast covering the weird, wild, or sometimes nostalgic world of films. This time, our crew of Birdman, Ken, and David discuss the breath that is the Disney Aladdin Trilogy of films. That's right we talk about the original 1992 classic, its TV direct to video movie Return of Jafar, and the direct to video film that completed the trilogy King of Thieves. We also touch on the legacy of Howard Ashman and the subtle little touches that almost made it into the first film, how Return of Jafar feels lesser and how King of Thieves ends the series of films on a better note. It's time to head to a land in a faraway place where the caravan camels roam with the Aladdin Trilogy. It's another TWIG Loose Cannon. We're embracing our inner evil and assembling our ultimate Disney Villain Dream Teams! It's a snake-style draft where strategy, sass, and sinister laughs collide as we each pick five iconic foes from across the Disney universe. Here's how it works: we each draft two animated villains, one Pixar villain, one live-action villain, and one bonus wildcard who can come from any corner of the leftover baddies. Once a villain's been chosen, they're gone for good — no repeats allowed!Expect passionate defenses, dramatic alliances, and plenty of over-the-top reasoning as we crown our team leaders and debate who's most likely to stab someone in the back (literally or metaphorically). From Maleficent's poise to Hades' one-liners and Thanos' snap-happy attitude, every choice reveals who we think reigns supreme in the world of Disney darkness. So grab your poison apple, cue up your evil laugh, and join us for a fiendishly fun episode that proves villains really do have more fun. It's Halloween on Main Street Magic — and today, evil's never looked so good.
This year, Iranian director Jafar Panahi won the Palme d'Or at Cannes for his extraordinary new film, “It Was Just an Accident,” which he shot secretly in Tehran under great risk of serious harm. Jafar has been in prison twice on charges of “anti-government propaganda” as well as for protesting the imprisonment of other filmmakers. At this year's Toronto International Film Festival, he joined Tom Power to tell us how “It Was Just an Accident” was shaped by his two experiences in Tehran's Evin Prison.Fill out our listener survey here. When two podcasts collide, the conversation gets wild — and that's exactly what happened when Mike Abrams of The Wrong Cat Died joined me for this crossover episode with actor Ian Knauer. We cover Ian's journey through Broadway, the West End, regional theater, and even his time performing on Disney Cruise Line. Along the way, Ian shares the perseverance it took to finally land Cats after years of auditioning, what it was like stepping into the role of Jafar at sea, and how those experiences shaped his career both onstage and off. Of course, with Mike in the room, we couldn't resist diving headfirst into the eternal Cats debate — was Grizabella really the right choice, or did the wrong cat die? Ian makes a compelling case for Old Deuteronomy, and things only get livelier from there. From cruise ship lore to Broadway memories to a game of “Did the Wrong Cat Die?” reimagined with iconic stage and screen deaths, this episode is equal parts thoughtful and hilarious. Ian Knauer's career spans Broadway (Anastasia), the West End (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), national tours, regional theater (Cats, White Christmas), and concert and film appearances. A University of Michigan graduate, he has also performed with Disney Cruise Line as a Broadway guest artist, where he delighted audiences as Jafar in Aladdin and beyond. This week on Toon'd In!, Jim Cummings welcomes the legendary and masterfully expressive Andreas Deja! Renowned as one of Disney's most iconic animators, Andreas brings a treasure trove of stories, insights, and artistic passion to a conversation that's equal parts inspiring and nostalgic. From bringing to life some of animation's most unforgettable villains—like the menacing Scar in The Lion King and the flamboyant Jafar in Aladdin—to shaping beloved heroes like Hercules, Andreas takes us deep into the heart of hand-drawn animation. He and Jim dive into the craft of character performance through pencil and paper, the delicate balance between artistry and storytelling, and the evolution of animation from golden age traditions to modern-day innovations.
Wake us up when sequel September ends! We had too much fun last month, so to keep things balanced we decided to watch the worst sequels we could think of - starting with the return of Jafar! What it lacks in Robin Williams it makes up for with multiple songs by Gilbert Gottfried!
This week I'm crossing off a bucket list guest, Andreas Deja! Andreas is a lead and supervising animator on some of your favorite villains across the pantheon of Disney. Gaston, Jafar, Scar and he's done some amazing work on Lilo and Hercules as well as a plethora of others. This one is super special for me and I hope you enjoy! Wait a minute... isn't this the third Aladdin movie? Wasn't there one in the middle? Return of Jafar? Well you are correct but Robin Williams isn't in that one because of a dispute between himself and Disney. Aladdin and the King of Thieves, the second direct to video sequel of the classic first movie, reprises Robin Williams in his famous role of the Genie. There's a couple of okay musical numbers but all in all its exactly what you'd expect from Disney's direct to video slop pipeline.

So last month I started the annual classics series with the 2005 mix. This week I flipped it round and did a mix based on the month I bought the music. Since it's July that's the month I went with. I have done this a couple of times on Pressure Radio with a Junes and Decembers mix. It's fun and helps you reconnect with older music you may not have heard for years. When I started the mix and looked in my music folders I realised that July isn't a common month for me. Up to 2017 I have most years covered all the way back to 2005. In fact July 2005 is my oldest digital track. However in recent years I have been overseas in July , usually at Suncebeat and therefore don't buy music until I get back in August. As a result a lot of this mix is from pre 2015/6. Not that you can tell of course, unless you know when certain tracks were released.I tried to keep a pretty chill vibe for the majority of the mix. Not something I'm used to doing, but for the most part I think I did a pretty good job!It was never going to last the whole mix though and so in the last 30 minutes I let off some steam. Have to say July has some absolute bangers so the end of the mix is strong like Ox.For those of you in Sydney - tickets now available to my inaugural Classics event which will hopefully become a quarterly thing. First one is at Gitano in Double Bay on August 8th. I've been lucky to land Simon Caldwell and Jerry Drew to play alongside myself. The first event is all about the early 90's house scene.>>>>>>>>>Grab Tour Tickets
