HI, I’m Karen Thomasson and I’m encouraging you to strive for imperfection. Yes, I said imperfection. I am an advocate of striving to be better, even the best version of you. I am also an advocate for forgiveness when you fall short to make this happen. Yes, you can do your best to be better but know that you will never achieve perfection. And that it’s so totally OK! So here are my personal stories and interviews with some awesome people that can help you improve your life in every way that you wish to. As well as some funny stories about how no matter how hard we might try, we will fall short at times. We will fail. We will also, laugh, learn and grow. The journey to being the best version of you doesn’t have to be all grit. It can be fun and often hilarious. If we can’t laugh at ourselves, we are taking this life way too seriously. Laughter brings joy and happiness, and at the end of the day, that’s what we really want right? I am here to be real and honest about my journey, in hopes to bring you some great tips to living as your best self, while keeping in mind we are all human and we will continue to make mistakes.
In the season finale of SFI, I reflect on my journey throughout the process and the takeaways I gathered. I hope you enjoyed season one and I’ll be back soon for season 2. Peace love and joy to you!

Don’t make assumptions. In this episode I talk about the third agreement from Don Miguel Ruiz’s book, The Four Agreements, and how making assumptions has led me to some uncomfortable situations in my life. Life is much easier when you stop making assumptions. Enjoy!

“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re probably right.” Henry Ford. What’s your story? What have you been telling yourself that you believe to be true. What if that story wasn’t actually the truth? Would you make difference choices? Have a completely different life? It’s possible. But is it also possible to change your story? If you think it’s too late; that may actually be one of the stories you’re telling yourself.
We all have heroes in our life, some are obvious and others, not so much. Do you know who it is in your life that you consider to be your hero? Here’s a story about my hero and why I am continuously inspired by her.
Many of us are spending more time at home than ever before. Cabin fever is real, and many feel the need to “get away”. Something that is also very difficult right now. So how can you make your home your getaway? Here are some ideas. As well as navigating every day life in a way that’s as “normal” as possible; while embracing and accepting the “new normal”.
What is actual motivation? What motivates us? And an even better question; how do we become motivated when we are not motivated to become motivated? Motivation is what drives us, so how do we move forward during those times when our motivation seems to have skipped out on us? Now more than ever, the drive to keep moving forward is fleeting. There is one way that I know works; and I come back to it every time my level of determination seems to sink to new lows.
Restoring faith in humanity. You hear it all the time, when faced with a good moment either on the news or in social media. But is humanity all that bad to begin with? I think we all have what it takes to heal the world and we come by it naturally. Humans are awesome and we need to remember that. Why are humans so awesome? Listen and find out.
23 years ago, my family and I went through something that would change our lives forever. I didn’t learn until recently how much it was still affecting me, in ways that I wasn’t even aware of. Hidden ways, that are more common than we know.
I listen to many guided meditations and my favorites are the ones that are about feeling joy and gratitude. So for something a little different, I’ve created a guided meditation, specifically for this podcast. Enjoy those positive vibes!
How to we deal with feeling like we’re not enough? So many amazing people struggle with this, and they don’t see themselves as amazing. There is negative and positive in all of life and we learn to accept the bad with the good. In life; but why is it so hard to accept this in ourselves? I have plenty of bad habits, but does having bad habits make me a bad person? Is it okay to be okay with this?
What do we want? The number one thing people say they want most is happiness. But It’s just a feeling; why does it mean so much?

I’ve been wanting to address the pandemic and getting through it as a community. This is a time in our lives that will be a part of history, and what will our thoughts be looking back at it? How can we come together and help each other through this uncertain time?
I love a good quote. This quote I love enough to dedicate an entire episode to. “The Journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” Lao Tzu
For daydreamers like me, this handy practice of visualization has helped me reach some lofty goals and manifest some crazy stuff. There’s also a very helpful exercise called “WOOP” created by Author, Psychologist, and researcher, Gabriele Oettingen, and taught by Professor Laurie Santos Of Yale University’s online course, The Science of Wellbeing, that I explain in the episode. Helpful and fun, you may already be doing this. But when you know how to use it to your advantage, you’ll be surprised at how much you can accomplish with it. Enjoy!
You see the quotes everywhere. #Bepresent. Live in the moment #Beherenow. But what does it actually mean and how do you do it? Mindfulness is an easy practice in which the benefits are life changing. Alter your mood, and enjoy the little things that add up to incredible differences in your every day life when you learn how to actually be in the moment. Mindfulness is one way to enhance every aspect of your life and start seeing the benefits right away. It isn’t about changing your situation, but your mindset. It’ll help you deal with whatever is happening in your current reality and get to the best outcome. You’ll be able to appreciate everything on a whole new level, and as a result, you’ll feel better and see lasting benefits.
A quick overview of meditation. While it seems like a complicated subject, the basics are very simple. And the basics are really all you need to know to get started. The benefits are immeasurable, but in this episode I explain some of the ways meditation has had a huge positive impact on my life.
I have been, in a state of confusion and sadness, as I know many others have as well. This is common and totally OK given the circumstances. But I had to think about my reasons for doing this podcast, and reflect on if I have been accomplishing the goal I originally intended. With this reflection, I am moving forward in the only way I know how to. With hope.
These are the voices in my head. Now that I have a better understanding of these voices, I know that I am in control of my thoughts, not the other way around.
Animals really know how to live. We can learn a lot about life from watching our pets. Here’s what I learned from the furry animals that live in my home.
Why are we afraid to fail? Failing is worst case scenario right? So what’s the worst thing that will happen if we fail, and is it really all that bad? What’s worse than failing, is regretting that we didn’t try.
I was bullied and teased as a child. Here’s what I learned from that experience, and how I learned about my true north. Having a daughter has brought up some hard experiences from my childhood that I usually try not to think about. What if she has to go through what I did??
Here’s the story behind when I finally chose to stand up to a limiting belief that’s been holding me back my entire life. Blood, sweat and tears? I think there may have been blood, definitely sweat and maybe even a little tears. It was worth it!
As an introduction to the Strive for Imperfection podcast, this first episode gives an honest overview of my journey through the world of personal development. Did self help actually help me? These are my thoughts, and my reality behind “the journey”.
