Fabulous stories from the mind of a man who grew up on a North Dakota cattle ranch and went on to become a successful broadcaster!
Today, Bill reflects on the land that has been part of his family for 3 generations. This story was first told in December of 2019, Christmas time, just before Bill and Becky's English Cream Golden Retriever Ardella Rose had her third litter of puppies.
The famous North Dakota Six-Pack consists on Jim and Tom Tescher, Dean Armstrong, Alvin Nelson, Duane Howard and Joe Chase. They are state and national legends. In my lifetime, I had interaction with 3 of the members, Jim, Tom and Alvin. In this podcast, I chronicle my experiences with them. I sure hope you enjoy the stories! And I feel I wouldn't be doing my job as media director at the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame in Historic Medora, ND, if I didn't encourage you to stop by our facility and learn more about the ND 6 Pack and all the other inductees. We open by appointment now, but we will be up and running for the 2024 season beginning on May 4th. And be sure to follow the NDCHF on Facebook and at northdakotacowboy.org .
On this episode of "Tales From Wild Bill's Ranch", I share my critique of typical furniture store radio ads and also share the story of a dining room table that has been in our family since the late 1960's, early 1970's. It's a wonderful tale and may assist in showing you to not take those "heirlooms" for granted! This episode was recorded in November of 2019. My mother, Agnes Palanuk, would pass away one year later.
Here is Roughstock Jukebox #5 from Superbowl weekend 150 years ago! LOL! We take rodeo interviews and other rodeo and bull riding audio and mash it with new country from back then and call it a rodeo on your radio! Happy 4th of July Weekend from WiLD BiLL and all of us at Dakota Cowboy!
Years ago, I hosted a program titled Roughstock Jukebox which mashed rodeo interviews and information with HOT Country music. This is an episode of RSJB from those days. I believe it features an interview with Billy Etbauer and more, MUCH more. Hope you like it!

My sister Beverly was the most amazing fundraiser I have ever known. Her creativity was beyond her time. When I did an interview promoting a concert to raise money for a civic auditorium in Dickinson, ND, it caught Beverly off guard and she had an epiphany as to what my career would one day be. If you really want to catch someone off guard, upon greeting them, 9 times out of 10 they will ask “How ya doin’?” Respond with “it’s the best day of my life.” Responses to that will vary but you will inevitably stop them in their tracks and the number one response to that is “what, did you win the lottery or something?” I use that phrase quite often. Tales From Wild Bill's Ranch is brought to you each week by the book 'Ukrainians in North Dakota; In Their Voices' written by Agnes Palanuk. It is available at The Ukrainian Cultural Institute in Dickinson, ND or contact us here and we'll make arrangements to ship a copy to you.
I have many people whom I looked up to and admired over the years. My mom, my wife, rodeo athletes and many others all have and continue influencing me in positive ways. Being a broadcaster for over half my life, I will tell you about two who influenced me greatly. One I met, one I did not....David Letterman and Jim Thompson. Listen to my heartfelt experiences today on "Tales From Wild Bill's Ranch" brought to you by the book 'Ukrainians in North Dakota; In Their Voices' written by Agnes Palanuk and available at The Ukrainian Cultural Institute on Villard St. in Dickinson, ND.
The longest I have ever worked for one radio station was 2 months shy of 5 years. I started at KTWB on August 26, 1991, my last day there was June 14, 1996.I would relocate to The Black Hills of SD as I'd go to work for K-Sky. That is where I would acquire the moniker "Wild" Bill! It's a fantastic story! We're brought to you by the book "Ukrainians in North Dakota; In Their Voices" written by Agnes Palanuk. Contact us if you'd like to purchase a copy.
in the Fall of 1990, I had the privilege of doing shows on four separate radio stations in a four day span. They were KKRC, KKFN, KWSN and KRRO. I tell that story today! As the year 2019 along with the decade coming to a close soon, it seems our community has been inundated with death. For me, it’s been neighbors, school mates, former sweethearts, co-workers, radio idols and others have passed on. Rather than comment on death and dying, I’ve decided to end the decade not necessarily so much on a positive note but a light-hearted one. We all could use a little cheering up. So with that in mind, today I bring to you the story of the day that I met John Hoeven. We are brought to you by the book "Ukrainians in North Dakota; In Their Voices", written by Agnes Palanuk. It is available at The Ukrainian Cultural Institute in Dickinson, ND or contact us here and we will make arrangements to get a copy in your hands.
