Nine years ago, I released the first November anniversary “lumberjack” story. Titled “The Art of the Lumberjack,” I described it like this: When Erik Nilsson has a minor heart attack and is told to take some forced time off of work to recuperate, he finally reads a book left to him by his father much earlier in life. What he finds hidden among the pages changes him forever… Nine years later, we catch up with Erik and his father in a sequel to that story. Content Advisory: “The Art of the End” deals with the death of a parent, an argument with an estranged parent, and…that’s really about it. Oh, there is one bit of swearing. * * * Credits: Music: Theme – Ergo Phizmiz. Story – Christopher Gronlund and an additional traditional track, licensed through Epidemic Sound. Top Stories for December 2nd Publish Date: December 2nd PRE-ROLL: BUFORD HOLIDAY FESTIVAL From the BG AD Group Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Tuesday, December 2nd and Happy Birthday to Nelly Furtado I’m Peyton Spurlock and here are your top stories presented by KIA Mall of Georgia. Coca-Cola Caravan coming to Lanier Islands Resort Suwanee’s new ‘Bookshelf’: A mural that lets you judge a wall by its cover Gwinnett native Brandon Brigman changes life through CrossFit All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: Kia Mall of Georgia - Downtown Lawrenceville Holiday STORY 1: Coca-Cola Caravan coming to Lanier Islands Resort The Coca-Cola Holiday Caravan is rolling back into Lanier Islands Resort on Saturday, Dec. 13, lighting up the night alongside the resort’s Magical Nights of Lights. Picture it: a glowing 18-wheeler, mile after mile of twinkling displays, and all the holiday vibes you can handle. From 5 to 8:30 p.m., the Caravan will park outside Game Changer, where you can snap pics with Santa, sample new Coke flavors, and browse holiday merch. Beyond the Caravan, there’s Game Changer—an indoor playground with arcade games, axe throwing, and festive cocktails—and License to Chill Snow Island, featuring snow tubing, skating, and carnival rides. Magical Nights of Lights runs nightly through Jan. 4, with carload pricing starting at $35. Discounts are available for military, first responders, educators, and toy or food donors on select nights. For details, call 770-945-8787. STORY 2: Suwanee’s new ‘Bookshelf’: A mural that lets you judge a wall by its cover A bold new mural now greets visitors at Suwanee’s Town Center on Main, and it’s a stunner. Titled “Bookshelf,” the piece was created by renowned artist Pat Perry, whose jaw-dropping, photorealistic murals have popped up all over the globe. Back in early 2025, Suwanee put out a call for artists, and nearly 90 submissions poured in. Perry’s work stood out—his knack for blending realism with thoughtful, site-specific designs won over the Suwanee Public Arts Commission (with a little help from the Gwinnett Creativity Fund). Over two and a half weeks, Perry turned the walls outside the Suwanee branch of the Gwinnett Public Library into a vibrant tribute to storytelling. The mural’s placement—right by the pedestrian bridge—was no accident. It ties together the library, the park, and the new Town Center on Main. But here’s the cool part: “Bookshelf” isn’t just a mural. It’s a puzzle for book lovers. Perry didn’t paint books or readers; instead, he filled the piece with objects that hint at famous works of literature. A pearl for Steinbeck’s The Pearl. Chewing gum for To Kill a Mockingbird. Matches for McCarthy’s The Road. Over 20 literary Easter eggs are hidden in the mural, waiting for sharp-eyed readers to uncover them. It’s not just art—it’s a celebration of imagination, curiosity, and the stories that shape us. STORY 3: Gwinnett native Brandon Brigman changes life through CrossFit For Brandon Brigman, CrossFit isn’t just a workout—it’s his whole world. It’s where he transformed his body, met his wife, and found his calling. Back in 2010, Brandon, a former 270-pound offensive lineman from West Georgia, stumbled into NoExcuses CrossFit in Suwanee. He was bored of treadmills and marathon training, so he gave CrossFit a shot. Ten minutes into his first workout, he was wrecked. “I thought I was in shape—I’d just run a marathon. Nope.” Fast forward: he became a trainer, then the gym’s general manager, and in 2018, he bought the place. Now, NoExcuses is thriving, with 100 members, six employees, and a whole lot of heart. “It’s not just fitness,” Brandon says. “It’s accountability, community, and people who actually care if you show up.” We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We’ll be right back Break 2: Ingles Markets - Sugar Hill Holiday STORY 4: McClure High senior earns statewide recognition for leadership Jasmine Osorio-Antonio is already making waves—and she’s just getting started. A senior at McClure Health Science High in Duluth, Jasmine juggles more than most adults. Coding Club founder? Check. DECA leader? Yep. Junior Achievement honoree? Absolutely. In October, she was named one of Junior Achievement of Georgia’s Nineteen Under Nineteen, a recognition for students who are shaking things up with leadership and innovation. Her résumé is stacked: Horatio Alger Scholar, Alexander Hamilton Scholar, NCWIT Honorable Mention, and finalist in the Girls Who Code AI + Sustainability Challenge. Oh, and she’s in the top 10% of her class. But Jasmine’s not just about accolades. She’s hands-on. Her Coding Club, which she started with a teacher, gives students real-world experience—projects they can actually show off. And somehow, she still finds time to work three jobs: as a “FANgineer” at Georgia Tech games, a parking lot ambassador near Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and helping with her mom’s cleaning business. Her future? Computer science and business. STORY 5: Strickland says Georgia’s future ‘on the line’ in attorney general race State Sen. Brian Strickland is running for Georgia attorney general, and he’s got a lot to say about why. “I want my boys to grow up in the same Georgia I did,” he said. “We’ve got a good thing going here, but it’s a pivotal time. The wrong person in this seat could change everything.” Strickland, who’s been in the General Assembly since 2012, has a packed résumé: chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, former floor leader for two governors, and now a candidate to replace Chris Carr. His campaign? Focused on public safety, defending state laws, and tackling new threats like AI-driven crime. But it’s not all politics. Strickland’s a dad of two young boys, one of whom is autistic. He wears a faded autism awareness bracelet daily, a reminder of the work still needed. His campaign is grounded in what he calls “common sense” values: supporting law enforcement, protecting families, and ensuring Georgia stays a place people want to call home. We’ll be right back. Break 3: Sugar Hill Ice Skating Rink STORY 6: GCPS sets new calendars, but religious holiday debate lingers Gwinnett County Public Schools just rolled out its calendars for the next two school years, and, well, not everyone’s thrilled. Board member Tarece Johnson-Morgan called it “disappointing” and “non-inclusive,” pointing out that the calendar still leans heavily on Christian holidays while leaving out major ones from other faiths, like Ramadan or Rosh Hashanah. The district says they surveyed families, and most prioritized longer breaks and fewer digital learning days over adding religious holidays. But Johnson-Morgan argues there’s room for a “Yes/And” approach—keeping the current structure while recognizing key non-Christian holidays. It’s a debate that’s not going away anytime soon in one of the nation’s most diverse districts. STORY 7: Gwinnett schools preparing to adopt cell phone ban policy Gwinnett parents, it’s time to weigh in: should cell phones be banned in schools? The school board is considering a new policy—Policy JCDAF—that would ban personal devices like phones, smartwatches, and tablets starting in the 2026-2027 school year. Exceptions? Only for students with medical or learning plans. This isn’t just a local idea. It’s tied to Georgia’s new Distraction-Free Education Act, which requires elementary and middle schools to ban phones by 2026. Gwinnett’s proposal goes further, extending restrictions to high schools. For younger students, the ban would last all day—class, recess, assemblies, everything. High schoolers? They’d get a little more freedom, with phones allowed during lunch. The district says the goal is to cut distractions and reduce bullying, citing studies showing phone bans can lower bullying by nearly 45%. Parents, students, and staff can share their thoughts by emailing myschoolboard@gcpsk12.org. We’ll have closing comments after this Break 4: GCPS Hiring Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today’s Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. In this inaugural episode of the new series "Kingdom Now," Pastor Karl introduces an in-depth journey through the Gospel of Matthew. Titled after Jesus's prayer in Matthew 6, "Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven," this series explores the unique perspective of Matthew's Gospel, emphasizing the kingdom of God in an upside-down way that challenges expectations. Pastor Karl sets the stage by providing background on the four Gospels, highlighting Matthew's distinct focus on Jesus as the royal Messiah from the line of David, written specifically for a Jewish audience. He delves into Matthew's identity as a former tax collector, illustrating how Jesus transformed his life, changing his identity and direction. Through Matthew's story, Pastor Karl introduces the discipleship process of "belong, become, give, and go," encouraging listeners to reflect on their own spiritual journey. The episode focuses on Matthew 1:1-17, exploring Jesus's genealogy and its purposeful inclusion of unexpected figures, reinforcing the message that when God writes the story, nothing is a mistake. Titled after the Kendrick Lamar feature in the latter portion of the installment, welcome to I'm Dying of Thirst. The newest episode curated by your favorite internet disc jockey, DJ Witwickatron. A hip-hip majority installment starting in the 90's and ending at current features. I do love the Jai Paul demo soundcloud playlist, but outside of that? My favorite portions of this episode would be Wu-Tang's Black Diamonds, Beastie Boys live on David Letterman, Paul Wall Sittin' Sideways on vinyl and the Jay Electronica run featuring the closing stanza of Eternal Sunshine. Boylife in EU by Yung Lean makes me smile as well. I really ended up enjoying this episode, I hope you did the same. In other unrelated news, just yesterday I was lucky enough to give a really nice, beautiful lady a bouquet of roses for the first time in my life. Peachy, dusty pink roses that I spent time picking out, found a vase at a separate fancy location and really enjoyed the whole process. No reason in relaying this message to my internet populous other than to let you know that DJ Witwicky is out here balling out of control in real life. Thank you, as always, for being here. I'll be byck with another handful of game next weekend.Polka King of the Midwest,DJ Witwicky

Talha Ibn Ubaydullah رضي الله عنه (S16) The Messenger ﷺ titled Talha رضي الله عنه: “Talha al-Khayr”. “Talha the Good”. Whenever Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه mentioned Uhud, he said all credit goes to Talha رضي الله عنه that day. Abu Bakr and Abu Ubaydah رضي الله عنهم upon seeing The Messenger ﷺ again during the intense battle, rushed to him, ﷺ. The Messenger ﷺ tells them to see to their Companion, Talha رضي الله عنه who was severely injured and lost a lot of blood, but due to their immense love for The Messenger ﷺ they went to him first. Abu Ubaydah رضي الله عنه uses his front teeth to remove the lodged helmet chain links from The Messenger's ﷺ cheek. He lost both his teeth but this only increased him in handsomeness! Talha رضي الله عنه had fallen into a ditch. He had 70 wounds, from swords, spears and arrows, showing he defended The Messenger ﷺ from all distances. اَللَّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ. Talha's رضي الله عنه hand was paralysed and he lost his index and middle finger. When the other Companions رضي الله عنهم arrived and Talha knew The Messenger ﷺ was now safe, he رضي الله عنه fell unconscious again.

Truth Gatherers Dream Center Church Tallahassee Florida - Pastor Joseph Davis - Sermons Teaching Preaching Inspiration Love

Are you tired of feeling stuck in the boat? In this dynamic message, Pastor Joseph Davis explores the nature of Peter, the edgy disciple who dared to step out of the ship and walk on water in the middle of a storm (Matthew 14:25-32). Titled, "Courage to Grow," this teaching reveals the power of resilience—the inner strength that keeps you going when life feels dark. Pastor Davis encourages listeners to embrace the greatness within them and offers key insights on how to outlast the storms of life. Here are the main points discussed: -- The "Fourth Watch" is dark, but it's morning. Even when you can't see what God is doing, your trouble may already be over. -- Respond when God calls. Peter was the only one who responded to Jesus' invitation to "Come," demonstrating a willingness to try something great and break the mold of what's easy or "natural." -- Don't let others only focus on the sink. If you're going to tell the story, tell all of it. Peter did walk on water, meaning if you achieved something great once, you can do it again. -- Resiliency is knowing how to ask for help. A resilient person will "holler before they drown" and reach up for sources of strength. You're not ordained to go down. -- Don't let unfair accusations stop you from functioning in your gift. The enemy's strategy is to keep you from operating in your grace. Like Joseph in prison, keep working your gift—it will eventually make room for you. -- You are not a byproduct of your mistakes or poverty. God is greater than what happened to you, and your story is not over. Determine that you will outlast the trouble. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesRight after our episode last week, our pal James Gunn dropped big news on Wednesday - the next Superman film written by him will be called Man of Tomorrow. Gunn, David Corneswet, and others involved shared particular artwork by DC Comics President Jim Lee that showed Lex Luthor in a mech suit to make the announcement. In typical Gunn fashion, the DC Studios co-chair has teased this film isn't a direct sequel, but is the next installment in what he calls the “Superman saga.” The film's title is reminiscent of the Milly Alcock led Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which releases next year. In other DC movie news, Weapons director Zach Cregger addressed rumors that have been circulating about his involvement with a Joker and Harley Quinn movie. Cregger called stories about him having written a treatment for the two iconic DC villains “blown out of proportion,” but did indicate that he has a couple of films he's interested in working on, though he hasn't spoken with James Gunn yet.At the Toronto International Film Festival last Friday, Ryan Reynolds finally admitted the internet's worst kept secret - that he was the one who leaked the original Deadpool test footage in 2014 to the world wide web. Reynolds went on to say that Fox simply didn't seem interested in releasing an R-rated superhero movie and his passion for the character led him to the extreme action, which he doesn't regret. Fans of Deadpool are likely forever grateful that Reynolds did what he did, which led to pressure on the studio to make the film a reality. In other questionable swings from stars both in front of and behind the camera, The Russos released a blurry image with the caption #Doomsday Is Coming via Instagram earlier today. No last rites are being read for horror at the box office this year, as the supposed final installment in the Conjuring universe, The Conjuring: Last Rites, raked in $84 million domestically this weekend for its opening. This massive box office marks the best for this franchise ever, and the third biggest opening for a horror film of all-time. Warner Brothers and New Line are laughing all the way to the bank, having projected a $35 million opening box office and the movie cost about $55 million to make. The film's global take as of today is $194 million. In other Conjuring news, a series in development at HBO Max set in the universe took a big step forward today, hiring Nancy Won as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, who will write the series alongside Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires. The Office spin off The Paper, which debuted its first season last week has been renewed for a second season on Peacock.Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Nia DaCosta's “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple," the follow up to this year's 28 Years Later. The film is set to release on January 16.Prime Video has confirmed rumors that Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner will play Lara Croft in its Tomb Raider series from creator, writer and co-showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Production on the series will begin in January.John C. McGinley has joined the cast of ABC's Scrubs reboot and will reprise his role as Dr. Perry Cox from the original series. He joins fellow returnees Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison and Judy Reyes in the cast. The White Lotus creator Mike White and HBO have zeroed in on France as the location for the upcoming fourth season of the hit murder mystery comedy-drama series, sources tell Deadline. Two time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou has joined the cast of Amazon MGM's reboot of Highlander, the Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. The first trailer for Rian Johnson's upcoming Knives Out film Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man has been released. A bill recently advanced in the state Legislature that would give a $10,000 tax break to property owners who install a fortified roof. This comes after a recent study found that houses with fortified roofs in coastal Alabama were nearly 75% less likely to file insurance claims after hurricanes. This bill moves forward while a different insurance bill, written by state Senator Royce Duplesis, died in committee. Capitol Access reporter Brooke Thorington spoke to Duplesis about what comes next. A new series from Verite News tells the story of slavery in New Orleans. Titled, “Devil's Bargain,” the essays recount how the slave trade came to the city, sustained the economy and left a terrible legacy. In the early 1880s, visitors in the Klickitat Valley, just across the Columbia River from The Dalles and Biggs Junction, recalled seeing some very singular signs posted regularly along the right-of-way: NOTISE: All land in woods past Draper Springs is for Settlers cattle. No sheep is allowed. Sheep men take notise.    — Comitee By “Comitee,” it was clearly understood, the writer meant some sort of vigilance committee, a coalition of cattle ranchers and sodbusters who had come together to fight the encroachment of the flocks of sheep that seemed to be taking over the public rangeland. Similar signs, and “comitees,” were springing up all across the Columbia River basin. And over the decades to come, the problem would only get worse … and bloodier. Luckily, nearly all of the blood would be coming from sheep, not men. In this week's conversation between Dr. James Emery White and co-host Alexis Drye, they discuss the rise of the “romantasy” genre of literature, as well as the definition and implications of pornography. Is porn only that which you watch visually? What's the difference between reading a sex scene and seeing one? The discussion also explores the increasing consumption of pornography among women, the intersection of literature and pornography, and the reasons behind the popularity of romance novels. Finally, it offers a Christian perspective on navigating romance literature and its potential impact on personal relationships. Episode Links Today's conversation was sparked by a recent podcast conversation on Christianity Today titled “The Rise of Women's Porn with Phylicia Masonheimer.” The truth is, porn is a topic that the Church must be more open about discussing as it's so harmful to those who consume it - maybe without them even realizing it. While romantasy books are growing in popularity, this is not the first time that books have been written that could be labeled as “mommy porn.” There is a series that Dr. White delivered at Mecklenburg Community Church that we'd encourage you to check out. Titled “Fifty Shades,” it takes a very candid look at the book Fifty Shades of Grey and the implications for those who read it. In this deeply personal and spiritually charged episode of Flow, Cam Cooksey takes listeners on an emotional journey through the lens of brotherhood, faith, and the fight for truth. Titled after the classic ballad “He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother,” Cam opens up about growing up alongside his autistic older brother, sharing heartfelt stories, difficult realities, and the transformative beauty that comes from embracing challenges with love and faith. This isn't just an autism awareness episode, it's a raw conversation about the weaponization of medicine, the soul-crushing effects of over-vaccination, and the silent epidemic few dare to name. Cam blends his personal experience with community insight, shining light on heavy metals, EMFs, and detox protocols like chlorine dioxide that are being explored by families searching for answers. As the show flows from deep philosophical insights to vulnerable chats with the live audience, Cam reminds us that being our brother's keeper isn't a burden...it's our calling. Whether discussing spiritual warfare, the poisoning of our children, or the power of authenticity in a broken world, this episode is a testament to grace, grit, and the light that lives within us all. Honest. Redemptive. Unmissable.
