According to the VA's most recent National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report (2024), an average of 17.6 veterans die by suicide every single day. Although this figure is widely accepted, the real number may be even higher by "self-injury mortality," often through overdoses. In May 2025, the Trump administration highlighted the need to honor veterans, stating that the federal government “should treat veterans like the heroes they are.” As part of this commitment, the Trump administration signed an executive order to combat veteran homelessness by establishing the National Center for Warrior Independence, aiming to house 6,000 veterans by 2028. Spencer has been living in a camper on his 10-acre property for nearly four years while building this unique structure—and he's still mid-build, which makes this conversation particularly valuable.
