The compelling magnetism of "Occupy Wall Street" is that it is modeling a possible socio-economic-political paradigm for how a truly democratic society can run. The whole world is begining to watch the developments of this major social movement. Its impact will depend on the movement's ability not only to see the problem but also to see the solution. We must recognize the global crisis as more than a "them vs. us" mess. We have the opportunity to penetrate deeply to the roots of our problems. Our guest Dr. Sharif Abudllah of Commonway Institute, a respected author, lecturer, facilitates our dialogue of why spirituality must be an integral part of our social activism. We explore, among other things, the wisdom of Vimala Thakar, a noted spiritualist and social activist. Quoting "Awakening to Total Revolution: In a time when the survival of the human race is in question, to continue with the status quo is to cooperate with insanity, to contribute to chaos. The call is not to one of the revolutionary formulas of the past; they have failed--why drag them out again even in new regalia? The Force of Love Is The Force of Total Revolution A tender, loving concern for all living creatures will need to arise and reign in our hearts of any if us is to survive. And our lives will be truly blessed only when the misery of one is genuinely felt to be the misery of all. The force of love is the force of total revolution. It is the unreleased force, unknown and unexpected as a dynamic for change. Perhaps we have the wisdom now, the awareness that love is as essential to human beings as the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat. Can we bring love to the marketplaces, into the homes, the schools, the places of business, and transform them completely"? Article: "EnlightenNext" Magazine

    Peace Dialogue

A way to peace may be gleaned from the lives of three iconic persons who have passed on to the spirit world. They left behind wisdom to guide us and life examples we should emulate.  Words left us by Steve Jobs give us inspiration and guidance. Torch Bearers of the Civil Rights Movement, warrior brother Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth, and intellectual giant Professor Derrick Bell left us a legacy of courage, conviction and integrity. The Nobel Peace Prize for 2011 is divided in three equal parts between Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Leyman Gbowee, and Tawakkul Karman for their nonviolent struggle for the safety of women and for women's rights to full participation in peace building work. The founding father of the United States of America found their best working model for their new government not in the writings of Europeans but through their direct contact with the Iroquois League.  The Great law of Peace constructed by the Iroquois Confederacy existed centuries before the U.S. constitution was written.  It is in fact the true historical origin of freedom and democracy in the New World and indeed in modern civilization. The Occupy Wall Street the beginning of a major social movement and all of us have a powerful precedent for   re-imagining a true democracy. Peace came to the Iroquois, not through war and conquest, but through the exercise of reason guided by the spiritual mind.  The Iroquois League is based not on the force of arms or rule of law, but spiritual concepts of natural law applied to human society.
