Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: AI Safety - 7 months of discussion in 17 minutes, published by Zoe Williams on March 15, 2023 on The Effective Altruism Forum. In August 2022, I started making summaries of the top EA and LW forum posts each week. This post collates together the key trends I've seen in AI Safety discussions since then. Note a lot of good work is happening outside what's posted on these forums too! This post doesn't try to cover that work. If you'd like to keep up on a more regular basis, consider subscribing to the Weekly EA & LW Forum Summaries. (see more) There has been progress on AI forecasting (quantitative and narrative) with the aim of allowing us to understand likely scenarios and prioritize between governance interventions. (see more) Interpretability research has seen substantial progress, including identifying the meaning of some neurons, eliciting what a model has truly learned / knows (for limited / specific cases), and circumventing features of models like superposition that can make this more difficult. (see more) There has been discussion on new potential methods for technical AI safety, including building AI tooling to assist alignment researchers without requiring agency, and building AIs which emulate human thought patterns. (see more) Outreach experimentation has found that AI researchers prefer arguments that are technical and written by ML researchers, and that greater engagement is seen in university groups with a technical over altruistic or philosophical focus. (see more) Resource Collations The AI Safety field is growing (80K estimates there are now ~400 FTE working on AI Safety). To improve efficiency, many people have put together collations of resources to help people quickly understand the relevant players and their approaches - as well as materials that make it easier to enter the field or upskill...

Our double Parsha delineates the implementation phases of the building of the Tabernacle. All the materials are assembled, all the artisans are ready, and the building begins. In this podcast we focus on the construction of one of the vessels of the Tabernacle, the Laver, a copper basin that housed water. Our sages reveal some very interesting things about the origin of this copper, the use of this vessel, and a very interesting disagreement that Moshe had with God about the Laver. What we discover can materially transform and improve our life.– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –DONATE: Please consider supporting the podcasts by making a donation to help fund our Jewish outreach and educational efforts at https://www.torchweb.org/support.php. Humans are not monolithic. Each one of us is unique and have a unique take on every life situation. The truth is even more granular: even within a single person, there is not uniformity. We are all internally conflicted, sometimes thinking like this and sometimes like that, sometimes feeling like this and sometimes feeling like that, etc. It doesn't have to be like that. There is a way to reach equilibrium.– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –DONATE: Please consider supporting the podcasts by making a donation to help fund our Jewish outreach and educational efforts at https://www.torchweb.org/support.php. canadaLANDBACK is a co-production by Canada's National Observer and Canadaland.Landback is not just about returning real estate. It is about Indigenous people reclaiming who we are and making ourselves whole again. An elder once told me that he believed residential schools were designed to hurt women, because "They knew that when you break the hearts of our women, you break the strength of our nations."That story and other teachings tell us that women are central and even sacred to our communities. This episode looks at how women are reclaiming their role as mothers, teachers, leaders, and sacred beings, despite everything colonialism has thrown at them. This is not a story of hope, so much as it is a story of resilience and courage. In this episode of landback we interview three women, whose stories intersect; Terri Brown, a former chief of the Tahltan First Nation in British Columbia, and former president of the Native Women's Association (NWAC); Dr. Beverly Jacobs, Mohawk, Six Nations, is the Senior Advisor to the President on Indigenous Relations and Outreach at the University of Windsor and an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law, who is also a former President of NWAC; Tori Cress Ojibway and Pottawattami, G'Chimnissing is a land and water defender. Forgiving Yourself...The pressure is real and the situations sometimes con be overwhelming, I often speak of after war there is no place in society for it, its real and the situations, carnage and instant realty change, causes thoughts and perception to change and sometimes end up taking paths of destructive or extreme behaviors, sometimes its just a skip in life and we move on. If something did not work out and you became part of a situation with a no win probable outcome, you may carry that with you in the best or worst ways...... Be good to yourselves and move forward in a positive way. In front of that mirror that is sometimes hard to look into state to yourself often "I forgive you" even if it means nothing or the belief is false....Someday it may become the reason and passion in what drives you to love and taste life in a much better way....... David and Stephanie Palusky are the founders of Renew World Outreach, which provides innovative technology to missions organizations to enable the gospel to reach the hardest to reach places. David, an electrical engineer by training, and Stephanie first dove into the technology realm on the mission field to reach a specific people group that God had laid on their hearts. They realized that solar power could allow them to reach this particular remote Amazon tribe with the Jesus Film. From this small seed, they began to develop more solar projectors to provide to other agencies. As Renew continued to grow, they began to develop other products, such as the LightStream, which acts like a local wifi hotspot to distribute the bible, audio, and video in crowds and large public places. While Renew started out as a for-profit company, David and Stephnie later went on to give up ownership in order to expand the impact of the organization. And God blessed their generosity by multiplying the impact of Renew across the world. In addition to the power of technology, David and Stephanie share countless stories of faith. They have seen God work in incredible ways and we were amazed at some of the things they have seen. David and Stephanie had plenty to say on topics including: How technology had radically changed the missions landscape Many of the specific devices that Renew has developed What technology looks like in action with plenty of stories from the field The impact of ministry partnerships in hastening the spread of the gospel The remaining barriers to bringing the gospel to everyone everywhere Listen now to hear all they had to share, you won't want to miss this one! Are you searching the internet for Drug Addiction Treatment Centers, then you have come to the right blog. Here is a powerful testimony of Chealsea Ramsey whose life was changed, from a life of drug addiction. If you would like to read more Powerful Life changing Testimonies, you can click here.Testimony of Chelsea Ramsey8 March 2023Chelsea describes her life before knowing Christ as that of a ‘rollercoaster ride'.She had a good childhood and grew up in a Christian household with many of her family members being pastors. She says she grew up knowing about God but did not know God.She says it was more of a religion at the time and not a relationship. During her teenage years she began to party because she was curious. She started drinking alcohol at the age of 15 and eventually turned to drugs and became an addict, addicted to meth. She says she felt like she had no purpose and she seriously considered suicide. She landed up in prison and part of many programs aimed at helping her.In her mind she thought she would amount to nothing and remain hopeless. She says she reached a point of desperation and simply had to turn to God.Chelsea ended up changing when she herself made the choice to change instead of her family constantly pushing her to change. For a long time, she was looking to change by spending lots of money on rehabs. Nothing worked for her until her mom's colleague told her about a ministry called Victory Outreach where there's a free live-in program that helps addicts recover. On 15 October 2012 she went into the recovery home in San Jose (USA) and gave her life to God. She says choosing to go into the recovery home was one of the best decisions she could have made.It was there where she learned that God had a calling placed on her life and that she was not called to be broken but that she had purpose. She would be a missionary. She held onto this promise when the enemy started to try to get her down. She changed when she was open to receiving God and surrendered to Him.Today God is using Chelsea's life. She serves as a missionary in Cape Town South Africa where she serves as the Women's Home director.“It is such a privilege to be used by God, not only did He save me, but He is using my life to help other women be set free through the power of God.”“If God could do it for me, He can certainly do it for you. Nothing is impossible for God. He can do exceedingly, abundantly, more than you could ever ask or imagine.I know that He's still able to make a way for the drug addict, for the broken-hearted and the one who feels that they don't want to live anymore. We serve an able God.Cry out to God.matter what you're going through in life, God is always there, listening. He listens to you no matter what you're currently facing. He can hear you in your darkest seasons.”For more information about our church, go to our website at:www.vocapetown.netThird Wave Nights – Fridays at 19:00pmSunday morning service at 08:00am & 10:00amTune in to our TV program Treasures on TBN Yethu Channel 364 every Friday night @ 8:30 pm.For more information about our Recovery HomesContact details are:021 691 9575 / 061 407 9474Thanks for listening family. After the Torah delineates the instructions to assemble the materials for the construction of the Tabernacle in Parshas Terumah and the creation of the vestments of the high priest in Parshas Tetzaveh, Parshas Vayakhel outlines the implementation those plans: The massive fundraising efforts, and the actual building of the Tabernacle and its vessels under the auspices of Bezalel, and Parshas Pekudei wraps up the account of the construction of the Tabernacle, and its vessels and vestments. Again and again we read the refrain that everything was done precisely how God commanded Moses.– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –DONATE: Please consider supporting the podcasts by making a donation to help fund our Jewish outreach and educational efforts at https://www.torchweb.org/support.php. In the latest episode of "2 Pentecostals and a Microphone" we have the pleasure of speaking with Rev. Aaron Arrowood about the origins of "El Refugio" (or "The Refuge" in English). This outreach program for kids and youth was founded by Aaron Arrowood and has made a significant impact on the community. During this interview, Bryce and Jaredith talk with Aaron about the challenges he faced when starting the program and the new challenges of a mature outreach program. The current program offers various activities, including sports, arts and crafts, and music. It also provides hot meals, snacks, and transportation for the kids. The hosts discuss with Aaron the importance of building trust with families in the community and how the program has evolved over the years to meet the changing needs of the kids and youth. Aaron shares with them some heartwarming stories of how the program has positively impacted the lives of the kids and youth who participate, including helping them with their schoolwork, providing them with positive role models, and giving them a sense of belonging and community. We have seen kids baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost and entire families have come into the church as a result of El Refugio. How can we change the world and grow individually by learning about the circle of life? Today's guest, Stacy Shewey, shares the blessings and unique opportunities that spring forth from lending our lives to facilitate intergenerational well-being. Stacy's career began with Hyatt Hotels and Resorts. During this time, she was awarded the prestigious Circle of Excellence Award, which is reserved for the hospitality industry's best sales associates. Stacy is an entrepreneur who built a successful hospitality company where she owned and operated hotel properties, freelanced as a hotel feasibility consultant, was a consultant/investor on a 60-million-dollar resort start-up, and contracted out as an event planner. She left the hospitality industry to become an Executive Director of an assisted living and memory care community, where she gained experience in the senior living industry. She is a visionary who takes ideas and brings them to life. After being in the senior living and hospitality industry for her whole career, she felt called to take her experiences and knowledge and serve those in developing nations. We all know we are in an aging crisis in the US, but few realize we are in a global aging crisis where there is no plan to care for the vulnerable and forgotten senior population. It was with this revelation Hands 4Life was born. In 2016, Hands 4Life founder Stacy Shewey traveled to Haiti as part of a mission trip. On that trip, she visited a newly constructed community with an assisted living facility for the elderly. Witnessing firsthand the tremendous need in the developing world for high-quality, compassionate care for older adults, Stacy began a journey leading to the creation of Hands 4Life – one of the few nonprofit missionary organizations focusing on caring for the elderly in developing nations. The need has never been greater. Stacy shares how growing up in an intergenerational home inspired her love for seniors. She relates her story of selling her hospitality business to run an assisted living facility before hearing God's call to care for those in developing countries who have no one to care for them. Shewey details statistics declaring the world is in a global aging crisis. Sixty percent of the world's senior population live in developing countries. By the year 2030, the number is expected to rise to eighty percent. Developing nations lack the resources to care for the elderly. Seniors in these countries often suffer from neglect or abuse. A dire need for education about proper diagnosis and care of aging adults in impoverished areas exists. The younger generation often migrates from their area of origin to seek better employment, leaving the elderly with no one to care for them. Shewey states the solution to this global crisis is to teach children about the circle of life. Parents care for children, then kids grow up to care for their parents. The Hands 4Life model offers seniors an opportunity to impart wisdom and job training to orphaned children. Kids learn to honor and respect their elders while receiving valuable life skills. Stacy explains that when you serve others, you find true joy and purpose. Hands 4Life has identified a five-acre site in Nigeria to build their first campus with intergenerational homes, workshops, medical facilities, educational resources, and more. Seniors will receive 24-7 care. Missionary parents will care for the orphaned children. Seniors will utilize the workshops to impart their trade skills to the younger generation. When kids reach adulthood, they are equipped with job and life skills along with Biblical truth. Hands 4Life also envisions training interested kids on how to run for-profit senior care facilities of their own after outgrowing the nonprofit starter program. Stacy notes that intergenerational studies have existed for a long time, but says the concept of creating an intergenerational campus with homes is cutting-edge. Shewey describes the great need as Hands 4Life prepares to launch, including childcare experts, senior living experts, sponsors of individual kids and seniors, corporate sponsors, and monthly sponsors. The most calamitous, catastrophic, disastrous event in Jewish history - and arguably the most devastating event in all of human history - happens in our Parsha. A mere 40 days after the exultant, euphoric, transcendental Revelation at Sinai, the nation stoops to a very low nadir: they make a golden calf and begin to worship it.
