How To Teach Your Child To Love Reading

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 19, 2023 47:23

The joyous journey towards literacy begins from the moment a child is born. Early exposure to books, stories, and language sets the foundation for a lifelong love affair with reading and learning. Cultivating a passion for literacy at an early age is not just about acquiring basic reading skills; it is about instilling a deep appreciation for the written word and unlocking a world of knowledge, imagination, and personal growth. A strong foundation in literacy empowers children to express themselves confidently and articulate their thoughts, feelings, and ideas. They become effective communicators, capable of sharing their unique voices and connecting with others on a deeper level. This not only enhances their academic performance but also their personal relationships and future career prospects. Join us as we discuss ways to nurture and cultivate this love, shaping generations of avid readers and lifelong learners who will thrive in an ever-evolving world. Helping Children Cope With Big Life Changes

Big life changes are inevitable, but that doesn't make them any easier for children (or adults) to manage. Structure and stability feel safe for children, so new experiences like divorce, relocation, attending a new school, or welcoming a baby sibling can be scary. As we face these changes, we develop the skills of resilience. Adapting to these changes through these experiences, strengthen our resilience. Children need assistance in coping with major life changes hence the need for extra support in addressing their feelings, understanding and adjusting to the changes. These provide the foundation for acquiring life long skills and strategies as they evolve. Joining us in studio today is our very first guest and author, Mrs. Kimberly Gail Rhagunathan, who has recently published a children's book titled, "From Charleston to Accra".
