Matthew 18:21-35It was their first morning in the big city as my daughter and her husband woke to find her car window smashed, and her bag stolen. Hers was one of 3 cars vandalized and robbed that night in that parking garage the manager said. As the normal emotions passed over them, as can be expected during such an event, many would quickly second guess a move from their former rural area to that of a big city, with such a welcome on day 1. However, I reminded them that something similar happened to me many years ago, but not in a big city. Acts 2:42-47 It was 50 days after Passover… Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit comes. Peter, one of the disciples, is together in Jerusalem with the rest. The Israelites were just cut to the heart by what they had heard… Peter had just stated boldly in chapter 2 of Acts, verse 36, Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom-you-crucified. Can you imagine being told that. That the One that had been promised, Jesus, sent to earth by God, and you crucified Him…ouch. So, they ask Peter and the other apostles in verse 37, Brothers, what shall we do? To which Peter responds, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
