Henry V wasn't on the throne that long, BUT his big military gains in the Hundred Years War against France helped England position itself as one of the strongest military powers in Europe. So why would we be interested in his little brother, John?Well, quite simply, Henry V couldn't have achieved all he did without him! Supremely loyal, a great administrator and soldier, Henry relied heavily on his bro, John of Lancaster, Duke Of Bedford. To help Charlie Higson understand more about this man of many talents, he is joined by Joanna Arman, author of Henry V's Brother - John of Lancaster, Regent of France. Brother John continued his series on the Patriarchs with a study from Genesis 37 on the early life of Joseph. He brought out numerous practical lessons for us today, including the harmful effects of favoritism in family life. Joseph's parents and grandparents were guilty of it, and it affected the family greatly. In today's study, […] The post Joseph, The Favorite Son appeared first on Bethel Mennonite Church - Gladys VA.

Brother John shared a number of interesting stories of early Anabaptists who were willing to die for their faith.
A sermon by brother John Richardson. Brother John discusses the book of Habakkuk, chapter 3. Habakkuk, frustrated by all the sinfulness that was going on in the world around him, asked God why He was not punishing the Israelites. But then Habakkuk, switches his attention from the troubles of the times and towards remembering who God is: spending time in communion with God, ie He starts praying. We too, today, when confronted by troubles and concerns need to remember that God is always at work and in control; and to praise God.
The saints in the Mississauga assembly share their testimonies as we gather in God's house to share some of the grief of our beloved Brother John, who just experienced the loss of his brother. Death faces all of us, but thanks to the gospel, we face it with faith and comfort in the scriptures. We have a hope — the return of our Lord Christ Jesus —and the resurrection from the dead.
Hey family! Ever wondered how Jesus lived before He started His ministry? This video expands on that, enjoy. You may leave us a message on FaceBook or Instagram if you would like to be in touch. @peopleschurchplk Stay blessed
Sister Nadene highlighted our Saturday evening worship with an angelic rendition of "HE CHOSE ME" complementing Brother John's exhortation to stay the course: "He who began a good work in us will bring it to completion on the day of Jesus Christ." Brother Singh completed this spiritually refreshing evening with a report on the dedication of the new sanctuary in Vasai, India.
Maturity causes us to think about things that will soon come to pass. We are conscious of all the matters we will leave undone as our allotted time runs out. As the final hours of 2024 fade away, Brother Singh reminds us that time is one commodity we can never recover. Drawing from Brother John's exhortation, our Pastor urges us to redeem wisely the time granted to each of us in this life. "To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant and pluck up what is planted. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2)
To be born to parents in the assembly and to remain in it for over four decades is a rare but wonderful blessing. The Apostle John wrote: "For I rejoiced greatly when the brethren came and testified of the truth in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." Our cherished senior elder, Brother John, shares that joy tonight as his son Jason testified.

October 23, 2024Today's Reading: Matthew 13:54-58Daily Lectionary: Deuteronomy 24:10-25:10; Matthew 16:13-28Where then did this man get all these things?” And they took offense at him. (Matthew 13:56-57)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. We would have taken offense, too. Imagine being raised in a house where mom and dad thought the oldest hung the moon. No, I mean, literally hung the moon. It might have been hard enough with Jesus always on the honor roll, winning the Christian Citizenship award all the time, and being the envy of every other parent. But “Hanger of Moon and Stars” was a bridge too far. “And they took offense at him.”On this day, the Church celebrates the life of St. James of Jerusalem, Brother of Jesus and Martyr. Why? Because of the grace of God. For despite all the offense James had taken toward his Brother (John 7:3-5), the risen Jesus appeared to him first, before any of the apostles (1 Corinthians 15:7), calling James to faith in Him as his Savior, too. What grace.Jesus does the same for you. Despite all the offense you take toward Him, Jesus comes to you every day in the promise of your Baptism, calling you to faith in Him as your Savior. Despite the offense you take toward Him, Jesus comes to you in the absolutions and sermons you hear from your pastor, calling you to faith in Him as your Savior. And, despite all the offense you and I take toward Him every day, Jesus still comes to us in the Holy Supper, calling us to faith in Him as our Savior, too, “for you, for the forgiveness of sins.” Jesus knows the indignation in our own hearts, all the offense we take over how He rules and governs this life. He knows our own stubbornness to believe that our Big Brother really is Who He says He is. It's why the church sets aside special days like these: to remind everyone that He gets us. And not just that He gets us, but to remind us that Jesus never stops coming to us and calling us to faith in Him as our Savior, too. What grace. And James would be the first to say, this Jesus, this grace, is for everyone. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Heavenly Father, shepherd of Your people, You raised up James the Just, brother of our Lord, to lead and guide Your Church. Grant that we may follow his example of prayer and reconciliation and be strengthened by the witness of his death; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever, Amen. (Collect for St. James of Jerusalem, Brother of Jesus and Martyr)-Rev. Bradley Drew, pastor of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Metairie, LA.Audio Reflections Speaker: Pastor Jonathan Lackey is the pastor at Grace Lutheran Church, Vine Grove, KY.In Embracing Your Lutheran Identity, Author Gene Edward Veith Jr. will guide readers through that heritage, starting with the Early Church and moving through the Reformation to Lutheranism today. Readers will learn about key people in the history of Lutheranism, from two teenagers who were the first martyrs of the Reformation, through the Saxon immigrants who left everything behind so they could practice Lutheranism freely, to the Lutherans who have stood strong for the faith in our own day.

Sixty-six years ago, Brother John accepted Jesus in his native Jamaica. Although he became an internationally acclaimed runner, God steadfastly fixed his heart on the faithful service of our Lord. He testifies of having "a treasure in his earthen vessel, that the excellency of the power may be of God, not of himself. Life has been challenging for him. He is troubled on every side, yet not distressed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed." (2 Corinthians 4:7-9, applied)
Brother John and Brother Sam combine to water Wednesday night's lesson, "GOD COMPASSEST MY PATH." Our faith in God is not guesswork based on human philosophy but a living relationship built upon God's word. "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him, and I will raise him up at the last day" (John 6:44). Every aspect of our life has been planned by God, for "You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and You are intimately acquainted with all my ways" (Psalm 139:3, AMP).
