God Is Love. The story goes: the elderly apostle John is asked to preach to the gathered crowd. He creaks to his feet and says, “Little children, love one another.” And he creaks back into his chair. “Brother John, don't you want to say more?” asks the host. “What else is there?” old John replies. One of the most believed stories Jesus ever told was of the Prodigal Son. And yet if we dig deeper, it's really about the complexity of family relationships, and the nature of our loving Father in heaven. When a child breaks their parent's heart, the love of a parent does not end - it waits, it watches, and it longs for restoration, just as the Father did for his prodigal son. In the same way, when rivalry takes root between brothers and sisters, it twists love into resentment and becomes sin, stealing joy from the family God intended to be whole. Yet the beauty of the gospel is that there is always a safe place to return - the family table. No matter the hurt, no matter the distance, God invites us back to His table of grace, where forgiveness is offered, relationships can be healed, and love has the final word. Patrick opens the episode weighing whether non-Catholic students should be altar servers in Catholic schools, laying out Church teaching and exploring its purpose. As listeners call in with their own stories and questions, he gives thoughtful responses, especially on how roles at Mass shape faith and vocations in boys and girls. Mid-discussion, Patrick shifts instantly to urgent updates about a tragic mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in Minneapolis, breaking from ordinary conversation to offer live news and prayer. Adam (email) – Can non-Catholic students who attend Catholic school be altar servers? (00:52) Ellen (email) - Aren't altar servers supposed to have made their First Communion? (12:18) Stephanie – Non-Catholic kids in the Mass: I think as a kid it helped me to go to Mass to feel that I was welcome and that it wasn't closed off. (14:10) Brother John – A woman told me that we don't say altar boys anymore but altar servers. (21:12) Rick - Have you ever heard of Father Peter Mary Rookie? (35:40) Bethany - I was a girl altar server. What would be beneficial for girls to do? Being an altar server helped bring me closer to my faith. What other options are there for young women? (39:09)

After two weeks of fellowship with Brother and Sister Singh, Brother Arun, his family, and Sister Neena Matthew from India testify to what they learned and felt during their visit. Kinship in the family of God is unrestrained by race, skin color, or language. For by grace, we have been saved through faith. And this is not our own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. The voices of our resident elders, Brother John and Brother Vid, are also heard

Brother John continued his series on the Patriarchs with a study from Genesis 37 on the early life of Joseph. He brought out numerous practical lessons for us today, including the harmful effects of favoritism in family life. Joseph's parents and grandparents were guilty of it, and it affected the family greatly. In today's study, […] The post Joseph, The Favorite Son appeared first on Bethel Mennonite Church - Gladys VA.
Brother John shared a number of interesting stories of early Anabaptists who were willing to die for their faith.
The saints in the Mississauga assembly share their testimonies as we gather in God's house to share some of the grief of our beloved Brother John, who just experienced the loss of his brother. Death faces all of us, but thanks to the gospel, we face it with faith and comfort in the scriptures. We have a hope — the return of our Lord Christ Jesus —and the resurrection from the dead.
Sister Nadene highlighted our Saturday evening worship with an angelic rendition of "HE CHOSE ME" complementing Brother John's exhortation to stay the course: "He who began a good work in us will bring it to completion on the day of Jesus Christ." Brother Singh completed this spiritually refreshing evening with a report on the dedication of the new sanctuary in Vasai, India.
Maturity causes us to think about things that will soon come to pass. We are conscious of all the matters we will leave undone as our allotted time runs out. As the final hours of 2024 fade away, Brother Singh reminds us that time is one commodity we can never recover. Drawing from Brother John's exhortation, our Pastor urges us to redeem wisely the time granted to each of us in this life. "To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant and pluck up what is planted. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2)
To be born to parents in the assembly and to remain in it for over four decades is a rare but wonderful blessing. The Apostle John wrote: "For I rejoiced greatly when the brethren came and testified of the truth in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." Our cherished senior elder, Brother John, shares that joy tonight as his son Jason testified.
