An opening stand of 192 between Jacob Bethell and Ben Duckett was the foundation of England's 387-3 - the highest score ever made in Odin at Lords. It proved to much for India despite the efforts of Rohit Sharma who answered critics of his continued presence in the team (and possible retirement) with 138 and the evergreen Virat Kohli. Simon Hughes, Simon Mann and Deep Dasgupta review the match and the series and are impressed by the re-emergence of this England odi side. #england #cricket #india Learn more about your ad choices. With ex-mayor Andy Burnham now officially Labour's main man, and London mayor Sadiq Khan heading to the Lords and then who knows where, are we seeing the rise of a new mayoral political class that uses devolution to bypass the Westminster greasy pole? Naomi and Kenny look at the pros and cons of a mayoral stop on the political line, and have a gander at Burnham's big speech too. And, with people and animals all struggling in the heat, what of our food crops? New figures show how climate change could hurt crop yield in many parts of the country ... and benefit farmers elsewhere. If We Don't Talk About Jesus, Who Will? Romans 10:14-17 "But how can people call for help if they don't know who to trust? And how can they know who to trust if they haven't heard of the One who can be trusted? And how can they hear if nobody tells them? And how is anyone going to tell them unless someone is sent to do it? That's why Scripture exclaims, A sight to take your breath away! Grand processions of people telling all the good things of God! But not everybody is ready for this, ready to see and hear and act. Isaiah asked what we all ask at one time or another: “Does anyone care, God? Is anyone listening and believing a word of it?” The point is: Before you trust, you have to listen. But unless Christ's Word is preached, there's nothing to listen to.” We are all called to evangelization. What does evangelization even mean? According to the Diocese of Trenton, “Evangelization means bringing the Good News of Jesus into every human situation and seeking to convert individuals and society by the divine power of the Gospel itself.” This could look different for each one of us. I have a friend who feels called to share the Psalms with those he meets. When he does, people are often moved to tears, and it opens doors for him to talk about other parts of the Bible. I have another friend who likes to spend time mentoring women in all that Jesus wants for them. She meets people right where they are and uses the scriptures to show how they can live their lives in a big way. Some people like to go out onto the streets and talk to the homeless people about God and Jesus. Other people like to go door to door asking if they can share the Good News of Jesus with all those they meet. There isn't one special way that you have to evangelize. There also isn't a set rule on whom you have to evangelize to. Sometimes we might feel more comfortable talking about Jesus within our family. We might talk about Jesus to our siblings, our parents, or even our children. Other people might feel uncomfortable talking about Jesus with their family, but they are perfectly fine talking about him to strangers or to their friends. Whatever feels best for you is a great place to start. I say a great place to start because sometimes it is good to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. It's great if you start by talking about Jesus with those you feel more comfortable doing so with, but then over time, as you become more and more comfortable talking about Jesus, you can branch out and start talking to others about Him. The verse above says, "But how can people call for help if they don't know who to trust? And how can they know who to trust if they haven't heard of the One who can be trusted? And how can they hear if nobody tells them? And how is anyone going to tell them, unless someone is sent to do it?” We live in a world where there is so much noise and so many distractions. We don't know who to listen to these days. This verse is saying: how can we call for help when we don't know who we can trust? And how can people know they can trust Jesus if we aren't talking about Him? If they don't know who He is? It is our job, each and every one of us, to teach the world who Jesus really is and that they can trust Him. Even if you just start with your spouse or your children, tell them about Jesus. Tell them about all of God's promises that Jesus came to fulfill. Tell them they can trust Jesus. God is our comfort, our shield, and our protector. If you didn't already know that, wouldn't you want to? I am not talking about going out and forcing your beliefs on others. I am talking about sharing the Good News with those willing to listen. Next, the verse says, “That's why Scripture exclaims, A sight to take your breath away! Grand processions of people telling all the good things of God!” How great would it be if we were all talking about God? The verse is saying that it would be so beautiful, it would take our breath away if we saw grand processions of people telling all the good things of God! Doesn't that sound like something you want to be a part of? Doesn't that sound exciting? Can you picture it? Instead of being afraid to talk about your faith because you don't want to offend anyone, you freely walk down the streets proclaiming the Good News of Christ Jesus. When I picture that, I think of a time when we used to vacation at this military place called “Fourth Cliffs.” We would go camping there over the Fourth of July weekend. Every 4th of July, they would have a little parade. This parade consisted of a pickup truck with an American Flag attached to it. Anyone who wanted to participate in the parade walked behind the truck shouting “Happy Birthday America!” and “Happy 4th of July.” It was so much fun. When I hear the part of this verse that says “a grand procession,” I picture a whole bunch of people out in the streets talking about how amazing Jesus is! The verse also says, “But not everybody is ready for this, ready to see and hear and act.” We can't do anything about those who are not ready to see, hear or act. That is a job for God. God needs to soften their hearts, open their eyes and ears. We are not responsible for the fruit of our labor. It is not our job to make sure everyone we talk to hears what we are saying. It is only our job to say it. We don't have to put pressure on ourselves to say the right thing to everyone all the time. We don't have to stress about not knowing what to say. If we just follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit, God will take care of the rest. God will make sure what we say takes root in the people we are talking to. We don't have to worry about that. God is so good! Next, the verse says, “Isaiah asked what we all ask at one time or another: “Does anyone care, God? ' " Is anyone listening and believing a word of it?” I like how this says, we all ask at one time or another. I think this is so true. Especially if we have children. We teach them the ways of God, we tell them about Jesus and how much He loves them, and yet we often have no idea if they are hearing what we are saying. Do they believe all that we are saying? Do they believe any of it? What about our friends and family members? Do they believe what we are saying? Are they even listening? The verse ends with, “The point is: Before you trust, you have to listen. But unless Christ's Word is preached, there's nothing to listen to.” This brings us back to the beginning. It is not our job to make sure everything we say is heard or understood; that is God's job. Our job is just to get the information out there. Before anyone can trust, they need to listen, and if we aren't talking about Jesus, then there isn't anything for them to listen to. Take a moment and think about how many people you meet throughout your day. Think about how you could incorporate Jesus into the conversation. Maybe come up with a few one-liners about Jesus or God that could fit into most conversations. Or, practice listening to the Holy Spirit, so you can know when He is prompting you to share the Good News of Jesus with someone. Think of how you can share Jesus with your friends and family. One great way is to love them. Sometimes we teach people more with our actions than we ever could with our words. Especially if we are talking about Jesus, and yet we are not loving people and treating them with respect. In that case, our actions will be much louder than our words, and they won't hear anything we are saying. We are all called to share the Good News of Jesus. How you do that is up to you and God. Ask Him how He wants you to share, and He will tell you. Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today. Lord, we don't want to keep you to ourselves; we want to share you with others. Please help us. Show us how you want each one of us to share with those around us. Give us the courage to share even when we're nervous or scared. Help reassure us that you will guide us in what to say if we ask, and if we listen to you guiding us. Lord, we love you, and we want everyone to love you. Please help us tell about all the amazing things that make you so incredible. You are the almighty one. You are the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. We are so very grateful for all you do for us, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus holy name, Amen. Witness Wednesday #216 Beth B. Today's Witness Wednesday testimony is from a woman I met through the Big Life mentoring group. I had put a post in the group asking if some of them would be willing to read my book and then leave an honest comment on Amazon afterward. A few of them decided it would be fun to all read it together, so they started a Facebook group to do a book study for my daily devotional book called Walk Boldly With Jesus Devotional. Who I Am: Discovering God's Truth About Me. Beth made a post in that group asking for prayers, as she had been having some pain in her abdomen, and when she went for a CT scan, they found a different problem. I do not know Beth very well, so I didn't have her phone number or any way of contacting her other than Facebook. So, I decided to just type a prayer in the chat. This is something I like to do when people ask for prayers. This way, they know someone is praying for them, and many times, even just reading a prayer from someone can bring peace in a difficult situation. Luckily, Beth got more than just peace from the Lord. I will let her tell you what happened next. Take it away, Beth! I have been having left upper quadrant pain since May 5th. I have been in constant pain since May 5th. I was rushed to the ER on May 14th. They did a CT of my abdomen, which they also got some of my lungs. On that CT scan, they found out that I had three lung nodules, five at the lower base of the left lung, seven at the middle lobe, and almost 10 at the upper lobe of the left lung. And I also had a hole in the middle of my two lungs, of my right and left lung, literally right in the middle. There was a little pinhole, well, a little hole. Anyways, so I had a follow-up visit on May 29th from the ER visit with my doctor. I didn't get to see the doctor. I saw the nurse practitioner. Anyways, she went line by line through every test. I mean, I was there for eight hours at the ER trying to find an answer why I'm having abdominal pain. No one can find out. But anyways, so she went line by line trying to find out all these scans and testing that I did. So she was really concerned because I do have an extensive history of cancer. In 21, I had six cancers. So I don't smoke and I don't vape. So the fact that I had three lung nodules, she was highly concerned that it may have been cancerous. And I also was concerned about that too. So I'm in the prayer group. I'm in the group with Catherine about walkability with Jesus. Okay. And I have really been trying to keep this in. I don't want to tell people. I don't want to be like, you know, like, woe is me. It's not woe is me. I told Catherine and the group on June 12th about the lung nodules that I just wanted some prayers. This is Catherine's prayer. And this prayer is very important for what I'm going to tell you. Dear Heavenly Father, we ask that you heal Beth, that you are the great physician, you are the miracle worker, and a way maker. We know that you can heal these nodules and allow her to breathe easily once again. We believe, Lord, help our unbelief. Lord, we ask in the name of Jesus that you heal these nodules before she goes to the lung specialist. It can also be once, it can be all at once or quietly over the next few weeks. Lord, we pray in the name of Jesus that you heal Beth and that she starts to breathe better and better every day. Lord, I ask that you give her new lungs just as you did for the father in Bobby Dawkins' book. His daughter cried out to him and asking for a brand new lungs. Lord, we ask for that for Beth too. We ask, we thank you for answering our prayers. You tell us over and over in the Bible that when we ask and we are asking, we are confident you will answer. We are confident that you will hear us and that you're taking care of Beth. Thank you, Lord. We love you so much. You're the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. You're the Almighty. We ask all this in the abundant name of the Lord Jesus. Amen. Okay. So I had another specialist appointment again for the abdominal pain. They sent me back again for another CT scan. So I went to see the pulmonologist on the 30th. Okay. So when I went into the pulmonologist on the 30th to find out why I have these nodules, he says, Bethann, you were at the ER on the 14th. I said, yes. He showed me my scan. He showed me my lungs. He says, these are your lungs. These are your three nodules. This is your hole. And I said, yes. He's like, so I was preparing for this exam on Monday and I was 100% fully ready to send you for biopsies, like extensive testing to figure out the why. You had a CT scan yesterday. I said, yes. And he says, well, when I was preparing for my, because I was the first patient after lunch, he says, during my lunch, I reviewed my afternoon charts and your CT scan came in from yesterday. And I don't know if you were praying for a miracle. I don't know if you were expecting a miracle, but you got a miracle. You have new lungs and you have young lungs. And he showed me my, my CT scan from the 29th. He says, you literally have new lungs. They are young lungs. I said, young. I said, I'm 54. And he says, well, you would not, I would not know that you were 54 looking at these young lungs. I'm like, Oh my gosh. Like that is exactly what Catherine prayed for. She prayed for new lungs, new lungs. And I've added on the young lungs just because I want younger ones. So that was my praise. Like I am like, like, and then when I came out of the pulmonologist, there's not even a church, like locally, like around it, but there were church bells ringing, like for no rhyme or reason. Like, there are literally church bells ringing. I was like, Oh, thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord. And I like fell to the knees, and people are looking at me, and I'm like, you don't understand. I just received the miracle. So that's my miracle. That's my shout out. Can you believe it? New lungs. God is so good! Thank you so much, Beth, for sharing your story with us and for giving God all the Glory. When we share the miracles that God is doing in our lives, it builds the faith of all those around us, and then they start to believe that if God can do it for you, then maybe He will do it for them too! Reaction to the damning judgment handed down by Mr Justice Nicklin on 7th July (https://www.judiciary.uk/judgments/lawrence-and-others-v associated-newspapers-limited/) dismissing the privacy and unlawful information gathering claims brought by Prince Harry and six other well known individuals against the Daily Mail publishers has been sharply divided. In an extraordinary, potentially reckless statement, given that Nicklin is due to decide the issues of costs later this month, Prince Harry condemned it as "a complete and obvious whitewash", questioning the objectivity and fairness of the Judge while Associated Newspapers welcomed the judgment as "a magnificent vindication" of the freedom of the press and its journalists. For expert legal commentary on why the claimants lost, Ken Macdonald KC and Tim Owen KC are joined once again by the leading media barrister Gavin Millar KC, who regularly acts for the media in high profile legal cases. Why did the Judge reject each and every claim despite the Daily Mail admitting it had regularly recruited third party investigators with previous form for phone hacking, "blagging" and other unlawful conduct to assist its journalists in their stories? How could the claimants' legal team have got things so badly wrong? Is the Judge's approach to "propensity" evidence and the strict demand for article-by-article proof, appealable? Ken and Tim then answer some listeners' questions about last week's episode with Dame Vera Baird KC and the current state of the CCRC, a recurring theme in our legal commentary on the criminal justice crisis, before ending with a tribute to the great former Lord Chancellor, Lord Mackay of Clashfern who died on 7th July 2026 at the age of 99. -- Covering the critical intersections of politics and law in the UK with expert commentary on high-profile legal cases, political controversies, prisons and sentencing, human rights law, current political events and the shifting landscape of justice and democracy. With in-depth discussions and influential guests, Double Jeopardy is the podcast that uncovers the forces shaping Britain's legal and political future. What happens when politics and law collide? How do politics shape the law - and when does the law push back? What happens when judicial independence is tested, human rights come under attack, or freedom of expression is challenged? And who really holds power in Britain's legal and political system? Get answers to questions like these weekly on Wednesdays. Double Jeopardy is presented by Ken Macdonald KC, former Director of Public Prosecutions, and Tim Owen KC, as they break down the legal and political issues in Britain. From high-profile legal cases to the evolving state of British democracy, Double Jeopardy offers expert legal commentary on the most pressing topics in UK law, politics, and human rights. Ken Macdonald KC served as Director of Public Prosecutions from 2003 2008, shaping modern prosecutorial policy and advocating for the rule o law. He is a former Warden of Wadham College, Oxford, a crossbench member of the House of Lords, and a leading writer, commentator and broadcaster on politics and the rule of law. This week we're joined by bestselling author and longtime fly angler Monte Burke, whose acclaimed book Lords of the Fly chronicles the unforgettable pursuit of the world-record tarpon and the larger-than-life personalities who helped shape modern fly fishing. Monte is also the author of Saban, Sowbelly, Rivers Always Reach the Sea, and has written for The New York Times, Garden & Gun, The Drake, Outside, and many more. Our conversation goes well beyond the pages of Lords of the Fly. We dive into the history and culture of fly fishing, the places and people that have left the biggest impression on Monte, and why the stories surrounding our sport matter just as much as the fish themselves. We also talk about traveling in search of new waters, the importance of introducing kids to fly fishing, the unique community that surrounds the sport, and what keeps all of us coming back to the water.Whether you're obsessed with chasing trophy fish or simply love spending time on the water with family and friends, this episode is packed with stories, perspective, and plenty of reasons to grab a fly rod and head outside.Get your Dads On The Fly Merch in our online store .Check out our sponsors:https://turtleboxaudio.com/https://nativesflyfishing.com/https://saludabeads.com/https://rambler.co/https://www.advntraccessories.com/

Baroness Dambisa Moyo is a global economist, author, board member, and investor who sits at the intersection of public policy, corporate governance, and capital allocation. Dambisa serves in the U.K. House of Lords, sits on the boards of Chevron, Starbucks, Condé Nast, and Oxford University's investment committee, is Chair of the Economic Club of New York, and oversees Altered Trajectory alongside her husband, Jared Smith, the family office formed after his sale of Qualtrics in 2018. Our conversation traces Dambisa's journey from growing up in Zambia to becoming a leading voice on global economic development and governance. We discuss how her experiences across more than 80 countries and on the boards of four global companies shaped her judgment on economic growth, governance, and decision-making. We then turn to the application of those lessons at Altered Trajectory, including the evolution away from an endowment-style portfolio, balancing Dambisa's macro convictions with Jared's moonshot investing style, and positioning for long-term themes. Along the way, we discuss the challenge of investing through structural change while avoiding ideological thinking. Any leader should see for themselves the benefits of elite coaching. Filmmaker and activist Baroness Beeban Kidron has been warning of the digital dangers facing young people for over a decade, and has played a central role in establishing standards for online safety and privacy across the world. In this episode, she talks to Carl Miller about the technologies designed to capture our attention and the algorithms that can quickly leave children exposed to harmful content. They discuss the unchecked power of Big Tech, as powerful companies avoid rules and regulations, and capture governments that are meant to protect us. But the problem is not the technology itself, but what we've allowed it to come. They explore what positive change could look like, and how we can collectively impose democratic pressure to ensure we make safe the technology that will be alongside us now, and in the future. Baroness Beeban Kidron is a member of the UK's House of Lords and a former film director. Her new book, Users: How Big Tech Took Control and How to Fight Back is available in bookstores and online now. Carl Miller is an author and researcher at Demos. It's Friday, July 10th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Finnish MP, convicted for quoting Bible, denied transit through London airport Finnish Member of Parliament Päivi Räsänen, who was recently convicted by Finland's Supreme Court for quoting the Bible, has been told that she cannot go through London's Heathrow Airport due to her alleged “hate crime” conviction, reports LifeSiteNews.com. Writer Rod Dreher broke the news on his Substack on Wednesday. The incident has not yet been detailed by any other outlets, but Dreher's report was reposted on X by the senior counsel of Alliance Defending Freedom, which has defended Räsänen in court over the years. War Secretary Pete Hegseth publicly prayed to King Jesus on July 4th On Independence Day, War Secretary Pete Hegseth delivered this extraordinary prayer at the White House. Listen. HEGSETH: “King Jesus, we come humbly before Your throne, praising You for all the providence You've bestowed upon this nation. For over 250 years, from George Washington to President Trump, we have dedicated this nation to one nation under God, and certainly, in God we trust. “And as we think 250 years ago to George Washington on bended knee in Valley Forge, appealing to Heaven on behalf of his troops in this young nation. We've appealed to You from the beginning, and may we continue to appeal to You. And tonight, we pray for our President, President Trump. Give him safety, give him wisdom. “Lord, we pray for our Vice President, our First Lady, our Second Lady, the cabinet members here, all the governors assembled here as well, our civil magistrates, Lord God. I ask that You give them the wisdom to see what is right and the courage to do it; wisdom defined as fear of the Lord, ear of the Lord being the source of all knowledge and wisdom, Lord God, Your eternal truths may they rule. “So, this evening, also, I would be remiss if I did not pray for our great troops, our men and women all around the globe, defending our great nation, as they have for 250 years. Lord God, watch over them and protect them. “It is in Your holy name, the Lord Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, that we pray, and we bless this food, too. Amen.” I bet you didn't hear that prayer on any secular news outlet. In Psalm 35:18, King David offers this prayer to God: “I will give You thanks in the great assembly; among the throngs I will praise You.” Students for Life gives Congress an ‘F' after Planned Parenthood's funding resumes Pro-lifers across America are reeling over the Republican-controlled Congress's failure to keep Planned Parenthood defunded. Now, Students for Life has taken the dramatic step of notifying every member of Congress that they have received a failing pro-life grade as a result, reports LifeSiteNews.com. Last July, President Donald Trump signed into law his “One Big Beautiful Bill”, a wide-ranging policy package that included a one-year ban on federal tax dollars going through Medicaid to entities that commit abortions for reasons other than rape, incest, or supposed threats to the mother's life. While it denied millions to Planned Parenthood, pro-lifers warned from the start that it was only a temporary solution and urged Congress to enact a more permanent measure ahead of the provision's July 4, 2026 expiration date. Maine's Democratic Senatorial candidate suspends campaign Democratic Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner ended his campaign on July 8th after facing a detailed allegation of sexual assault, an astounding and rapid fall for the leftist oysterman whose dramatic rise and grassroots support helped him overcome establishment opposition to secure his party's nomination, reports Politico.com. But a persistent accumulation of controversies weighed on Platner's campaign for months. Monday marked a turning point: Democratic leadership, many of Platner's staunchest leftist backers, and key groups who had been helping fund his bid withdrew their support and pressured Platner to drop out after POLITICO reported a new allegation of sexual assault. Since his withdrawal from the race, several Democrats have expressed interest in running against Republican incumbent Senator Susan Collins. Appearing on Fox News, Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania did not pull any punches and spoke directly to Graham Platner on national television. FETTERMAN: “A woman credibly accused you of raping her. He will be remembered as an accused rapist. He's always been a dead man walking.” FOX NEWS HOST: “He choked up a couple of times during that announcement. Do you think he thinks he's the victim here?” FETTERMAN: “Oh, yeah, definitely. Bro, you will only be remembered as the accused rapist that got pushed out of your election. That's your legacy, bro. You are a guy that cheats on your wife. You're the guy that roughs up your ex-girlfriends. That's your legacy, bro.” Trial of Charlie Kirk's alleged shooter reveals testimony from trans roommate In the trial involving Charlie Kirk's September 10, 2025 assassination, suspected shooter, Tyler Robinson, faces several charges including aggravated murder, a capital offense, reports the New York Post. On July 9th, Robinson's preliminary hearing entered Day 4 in Provo, Utah, as prosecutors played redacted video testimony from his ex-lover, Lance Twiggs, a man who pretends to be a woman named Luna. Twiggs was Robinson's former roommate and romantic partner, who was granted "use immunity" for his statements to investigators. Twiggs revealed Robinson's alleged tearful confession after returning home from killing Charlie Kirk — hours before turning himself in. In never-before-seen footage, Twiggs told prosecutors on July 9th that Robinson was walking around their apartment before breaking down and declaring he “wishes he hadn't done it.” The video showed prosecutor Ryan McBride interviewing Robinson's partner, who described Robinson's alleged regret when they spoke in person on September 11 — one day after Kirk was killed. McBRIDE: “Did he talk about what he had done?” TWIGGS: “Didn't go into detail. I just asked him, in person, if what he said was true the night before, and he said it was. He started crying a little bit, and said he wishes he hadn't done it.” Proverbs 12:17 says, “An honest witness tells the truth, but a false witness tells lies.” As related texts were read aloud, Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk, was heard crying in court, according to the Daily Mail. The video and accompanying texts — shown for the first time in court during a preliminary hearing — offered the strongest picture yet of how the accused lone gunman allegedly confessed to the assassination. 31-year-old Charlie Kirk was fatally shot in the neck during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. Worldview listeners weigh in from Wisconsin and Florida Wyatt Dennison, age 10, in DeForest, Wisconsin, wrote me and said, “I really like to listen to your newscast during lunchtime every day. I enjoy hearing how the Church throughout the world is doing. I also appreciate your sharing Scripture related to the news stories. My mom homeschools my four siblings and me. We are grateful to hear current events from a Christian worldview.” And Samuel Card in Fellsmere, Florida, wrote, “I enjoy the brief, yet various topics that The Worldview team compiles. Sometimes I go back and delve deeper into a subject that catches my attention. My favorite part is how Scripture is given throughout, showing just how much it applies to every part of life. An added benefit: I have just enough time to listen during my morning walk to work!” 12 Worldview listeners gave $3,345 on Thursday And finally, on Thursday by 5:45pm Central, 12 Worldview listeners stepped up to the plate and invested their treasure to fund the six-member team behind The Worldview for another 365 days. Our thanks to Karen in Muskego, Wisconsin who gave $25 as well as Paul in Cypress, Texas, Gilbert in Kodiak, Alaska, Susan in Oak Grove, Missouri, and Lara in Streetman, Texas – each of whom gave $50. We were touched by the generosity of Wendy in Ventura, California, Kelly in Loving, Texas, Steve in Loveland, Colorado, and George in Leesburg, Virginia – each of whom gave $100. And we're grateful to God for an anonymous donor in Cranston, Rhode Island who gave $120, David and Kathy in Crestview, Florida who renewed their pledge for $50/month for another 12 months for a total gift of $600, and Justin in Bozeman, Montana who gave $2,000. Those 12 gifts add up to $3,345. Ready for our new grand total? Drum roll please. (drum roll sound effect) $21,043 (sound effect of people cheering) That means we need to raise $9,832 to hit our $30,875 goal by tonight at 12 midnight. We need to find 4 Worldview listeners who will pledge $100/month for 12 months or give a one-time gift of $1,200, 4 folks who will pledge $50/month or give a one-time gift of $600 and 8 listeners who will pledge $25/month or give a one-time gift of $300. Daily Dose of Hope July 10, 2026 Scripture: 2 Kings 8 Prayer: Lord Jesus, We give you glory and praise. You are King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Thank you for your giving your life for us. Your love is overwhelming and all-encompassing. As we think about our day and our week, help us focus on when we have seen your love at work. Show us those moments when you were with us, walking alongside us, guiding us, directing our thoughts and our words. Lord, how we need you. How we yearn to see your glory. In Your Name, Amen. Welcome back to the Daily Dose of Hope, the devotional and podcast that complements the New Hope daily Bible reading plan. We have been working our way through the Old Testament books of 1 & 2 Kings this summer. Today, our reading is 2 Kings 8. This is a chapter filled with much drama. Besides the first narrative about the Shunammite widow having her home and land restored to her (a beautiful picture of God's care for widows), the rest of the chapter is all about kings behaving badly. One king is killed by his lieutenant who then takes the throne. Other kings, even those with Godly fathers, were highly influenced by the house of Ahab and did evil in the eyes of the Lord. Over and over again, the kings disobey God, marry women who disobey God, and then create offspring who disobey God. It's a vicious cycle. We also find a brief description of how Edom broke away from Judah, the southern Kingdom. The kings, with their messy, dramatic lives, operating far out of God's design, have made Judah a weak nation. Long gone are the days of David and Solomon. Now, Joram, king of Judah, can't get control of his people, his nation, and its various regions. There is chaos in Judah. Things aren't going to get much better. Now, join us for our going deeper discussion with Emmy Roberts. Blessings, Pastor

When it comes to the global economy — and its impact on politics and society — Liaquat Ahamed has an eagle eye for pattern recognition. Ahamed won a Pulitzer Prize for Lords of Finance: The Bankers Who Broke The World — his history of the Great Depression, and its aftermath. This past weekend, at the Nantucket Book Festival, he and I spoke about his newly released prequel, 1873, about the breathtaking first truly global economic boom, and bubble, and the bust that followed. We can't know for sure if 1873 foreshadows what's to come as a result of the tsunami of money chasing Artificial Intelligence. But if you want to develop that eagle eye for pattern recognition, while being entertained, I strongly recommend listening to our thoroughly improvisational conversation. Thanks to Nantucket Community TV — NCTV — for providing the video and audio of this and all the fascinating author events at the 2026 Nantucket Book Festival.

I'm dodging none of it, plus I'm handing you a summer's worth of book recommendations. Keep the questions coming in the comments.

At the Hay Festival, Misha Glenny and guests discuss the impact of the Norman invasion on the people and land of Wales and across the modern border with England in what became known as The Welsh Marches, march being a term for a militarized borderland. Hay was one of the first Marcher lordships. Even before 1066, William the Conqueror knew that he would have to subdue the Welsh if he were to control the English and he allowed more and more Norman warlords to establish virtually their own private kingdoms in these Marches. Later some of the Lords were to use these bases to invade Ireland rather than conquer the rest of Wales. Marcher Lords built numerous castles such as the one at Hay and many new towns would then grow up alongside these where there was one law for the English and another for the Welsh and, though the Acts of Union under the Tudors brought an end to much of the Marcher Lords' powers, the distinct identity of these Welsh Marches continued. With Rhun Emlyn Lecturer in the Department of History and Welsh History at Aberystwyth UniversityHelen Fulton Professor of Medieval Literature at the University of BristolAnd Huw Pryce Emeritus Professor of Welsh History at Bangor UniversityProducer: Simon TillotsonReading list:R.
