To love God first is to put him first in our affection, attention, and priority. If anyone or anything comes before God, it becomes an idol. We can even make the ministry for him more important than a relationship with him.Main Points:1. Our motive for putting Jesus first in our lives cannot be the desire for blessings alone. The primary reason we put Jesus first is because He is worthy. Jesus is supreme. He is preeminent. He alone is God. He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.2. What is true in our theology must be true in practice. What is true in our beliefs must be true in our lifestyle.3. You and I will never be fulfilled until we put God first in our lives. And we can never do that until we surrender our lives to Jesus Christ once and for all.Today's Scripture Verses:Revelation 2:4-5 - “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.”Colossians 1:15-16 - “Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can't see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him.”Colossians 1:18 - “Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

Who pays the highest price when respect is missing? That's the inadvertent theme for Hannah and Mick as they tackle this week's news. And it turns out there are plenty of people they'd both like to see with an unexploded WWI ordnance shoved where the sun don't shine, including a lot of men in the Epstein Files, and a fair few MPs and Lords keen to get a dangerously faulty car on the road without an MOT. It's Tuesday, February 3rd, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson 1,400 Nigerian kidnap victims held in forests Truth Nigeria reports that “more than 1,400 kidnap victims are held in horrific conditions in the forests of Nigeria's Kaduna State in North-central Nigeria.” Locations are well known, yet the Nigerian government refuses to get involved. So far, there are no records of Nigerian military entering the massive network of these torture camps. Horrifically, stories abound of Christians being tortured by Muslim terrorists with whips for hours until they are dead. The extremists have also severed the heads and other body parts of Christians. Please pray for the physical safety of our Nigerian brothers and sisters in Christ. Epstein file release leads to resignation of British homosexual politician Over the weekend, disgraced British politician Peter Mandelson resigned his position in the Labour Party after more revelations came out of his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein and alleged violations of the Seventh Commandment with girls, reports the BBC. Mandelson was also a well-known homosexual, who faux married a man, violating God's laws relating to improper relations with men. He served as British Ambassador to the United States last year, a member of the House of Lords, Secretary of State, and Lord President of the Council under Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Job 4:8 reminds us that “those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same.” Hillary Clinton aims at Doug Wilson, Allie Stuckey, & Mike Johnson Former First Lady and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton went after Reformed Pastor Douglas Wilson in a January 29th op-ed column in The Atlantic. She accused the pastor of opposing suffrage for women, advocating theocracy, and associating with War Secretary Pete Hegseth. She lumped Allie Beth Stuckey, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Doug Wilson's Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches into the same basket of what she called “Christian nationalists.” She lamented the sharp decline in participation and membership in mainstream liberal churches. She called for “empathy” in government, referring to Jesus's comments to turn the other cheek, but had nothing to say about Romans 13. She said she opposes tyranny and embraces homosexual and transgender rights. And she decried Trump's immorality, but had nothing to say about Bill Clinton and Jeffrey Epstein in the opinion piece. Trump announces trade deal with India On Monday, President Donald Trump announced a trade deal with India, reports The Epoch Times. The United States would reduce import tariffs from 50% to 18% — a 25% relief if India agrees to stop imports of Russian oil. The Afghanistan Taliban government reintroduced slavery On January 27th, U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Jim Risch announced that the Afghanistan Taliban government has re-incorporated slavery in the country. The new Afghan criminal procedure code issued in January also provides the Taliban government with “broad and dangerous authority to kill opponents, critics, and human rights activists under this designation, without guaranteeing the right to defense and fair trial,” according to Rawadari.org. Quite the opposite of the Islamic vision for the world, Jesus has come “To proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4:18,19) “Jelly Roll” glorified Jesus Christ at the Grammys This year's Grammy Awards ceremony, which recognizes achievement in the music industry, came and went again, with its typical outrageous, scandalous presentations, leftist political bias, and demoralizing and anti-social content. But one country music personality by the name of Jason DeFord, known as Jelly Roll, stood out from the crowd for a minute or two, when he addressed the audience. Listen. DEFORD: “I know they're gonna try to kick me off here, so just let me try to get this out. There was a time in my life, y'all that I was, I was broken. That's why I wrote this album. I didn't think I had a chance, y'all. There was days that I thought the darkest things. I was a horrible human. “There was a moment in my life that all I had was a Bible this big, and a radio the same size, and a six by eight-foot cell. And I believe that those two things could change my life. I believe that music had the power to change my life, and God had the power to change my life. “And I want to tell y'all right now: Jesus is for everybody. Jesus is not owned by one political party. Jesus is not owned by no music label. Jesus is Jesus, and anybody can have a relationship with Him. I love you, Lord.” Every now and then, the truth slips out. Jelly Roll won a Grammy for the Best Contemporary Country Album entitled “Beautifully Broken,” reports Forbes. 13-year-old boy swam 4 hours off Australian coast to save family And finally, a 13-year-old boy saved his mother and two siblings who had drifted off the coast of Australia last Friday by swimming four kilometers, reports the BBC. The 13-year-old swam the first two hours with his life jacket on. That was slowing him down, so he ditched it, and swam the last two hours without it. The family had been paddle-boarding and kayaking off the coast of Western Australia, when strong winds pushed them out to sea. The boy made it to shore by 6:00 pm. Two and a half hours later, a rescue helicopter spotted the mom with her 12-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter at 8:30 pm. The Marine Rescue Group commended the young man for his “bravery, strength and courage.” Paul Bresland, commander of the group, called the feat “superhuman.” And an inspector, James Bradley, said, "The actions of the 13-year-old boy cannot be praised highly enough. His determination and courage ultimately saved the lives of his mother and siblings." 2 Chronicles 15:7 says, “But you, take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Tuesday, February 3rd, in the year of our Lord 2026. They are the essence of all incarnations. The specific significance of these incarnations is that They introduced a process of chanting and dancing that is simply joyful. 2) My dear brother, I request that you just worship Lord Caitanya and Nityananda with firm conviction and faith. If one wants to be Krsna conscious by this process, one has to give up his engagement in sense gratification. One simply has to chant, "Hare Krsna! Hari Hari!" without any motive. 3) My dear brother, just try and examine this. Within the three worlds there is no one like Lord Caitanya or Lord Nityananda. Their merciful qualities are so great that upon hearing Them even birds and beasts cry and stones melt. 4) But Locana dasa regrets that I am entrapped by sense gratification. Since I have no attraction for the lotus feet of Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityananda, then Yamaraja, the superintendent of death, is punishing me by not allowing me to be attracted by this movement.- ----------------------------------------------------------- To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #kirtan #spiritualsongs #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
We're touring the sub-continent today, choose your mode of transport — Cape Cart, ox-wagon, horse, mule, on foot? Before the arrival of steam locomotion, roads in South Africa were little more than rutted tracks created by repeated passage of wagons and animal teams rather than purpose-built carriageways. There was no formal road network in the early 19th century: routes developed organically where ox-wagons, horse-drawn carts, and pack animals repeatedly traversed the landscape, linking farms, military posts, and markets. These tracks followed natural contours and river fords, often taking months to traverse over rugged terrain. The primary transport machines on land before railways were ox-wagons and horse-drawn vehicles. The ox-wagon was the backbone of overland transport. It carried heavy goods — from wool bales and foodstuffs to mining equipment — over long distances and difficult terrain. Transport riders, both European and African, led these wagons into the interior, resting at outspans before continuing. Their significance was such that even towns and trails were defined by their routes. Before the age of railways, South African towns grew up along the overland routes forged by ox-wagons, horses and people on foot, and the rhythms of travel on those routes had a profound influence on where settlements were established and how they were spaced. In an era when roads were not engineered highways but repeated trails across the veld, the limits of what an ox-wagon team or a horse-mounted traveller could cover in a day shaped the practical distances between reliable stopping places, watering spots and supply points — and ultimately played a role in the birth and growth of towns. The first public railway service in South Africa marked a dramatic shift in land transport. The Natal Railway Companyopened a small line in June 1860, linking Point (Durban) to Market Square using steam traction — this was the earliest operational stretch of railway in the country. Its first locomotive, “The Natal,” carried goods and passengers, representing a novel machine in the South African transport system and signaling a move away from animal-powered haulage. So after that sojourn through the wonderful world of 1879, we return to Zululand. Lord Chelmsford was in a pickle. He had initially blamed the disaster at Isandlwana on his 2 IC Pulleine, and Durnford but by February, a few weeks after the battle, the general inclination of the Horse Guards back home was to point the finger at Chelmsford instead. In the British parliament, conservative prime minister Disraeli was struggling to spin a way out after the terrible news from South Africa, “It is a military disaster,” he said in the House of Lords on 13th February “…a terrible military disaster, but I think we may say it is no more…”

Dana is joined by Fatima as they discuss the violence that has been plaguing Nigeria for over 20 years. As Dana said, “Our purpose today is not to sensationalize the suffering or assign political blame or leave us feeling overwhelmed, but we want to listen, understand, and know how as an interfaith community, we can come together and support the Nigerians in this suffering.” “We just have to be as close to God as we can.” - Fatima Njoku “There's no limit to what is possible, and so every day we just keep praying that we are able to stay faithful.” - Fatima Njoku “There has to be a real awakening of patriotism, of human rights, values of respect and dignity of life, of human life, that people should be able to see one another as humans and not as competitors or rivals or any enemies because we're not.” - Fatia Njoku “So there's hope. It's just for us to reinforce the right values. The bad people are not as many as good people. It's just because what bad people are doing is so loud that it makes it look like the world is so evil. No, there are a lot of good people, it's just that they have refused to do anything good or they've been quiet. But if we pray for one another, if we help each other, do inter-religious workshops where we help to see that we have similarities, give each other hope and a reason to believe in one another. I think there's a lot of hope.” - Fatima Njoku “If every good person decides to stand up and, and to do something good and to be led by God, to know how to fill in that space. Then so much good will happen.” - Dana Robb “I love the catchphrase… ‘All evil needs to triumph is for good men to do nothing.' So if you want to be a force for good in the world, don't do nothing. Do something.” - Fatima Njoku “That's perfect. Yep, exactly. Do something. And each of us has that capability to do something good in our homes, our communities, and it will branch out and affect the world.” - Dana Robb Fatima Njoku is a lawyer working in Nigeria and currently a doctorate candidate at the University of Jos. She has been a human rights advocate for over 11 years, in the course of her advocacy, she has been to the United Nations headquarters in New York and Geneva, she had meetings at Capitol Hill, House of Lords, Swiss Press Club and the like. She has been serving her community through Big Ocean Women in Nigeria where more than 50 women meet regularly for encouragement around the importance of faith, family, and motherhood. We come to the end of another month, and that means it's time for a preview of the movies to come! February is looking just as chilly as January, movie-wise, but that's not going to stop Brennan, Cameron, and Andrew from finding the bright-looking spots in the release schedule, which turns out to be a bit more wild and weird than it seems from the outset. For this week's movie roundtable, Andrew finally catches up with 2018's black metal biopic Lords of Chaos, while Cameron raves about current Oscar hopeful Sirāt, and Brennan sees the less awards-friendly sudsy thriller The Housemaid.
Get your tickets for Dissident Dialogues HERE : https://dissidentdialogues.org/In this episode of The Winston Marshall Show, I sit down with Conservative MP and political reformer Danny Kruger for a wide-ranging conversation on civil service reform, Christianity, nationalism, and the future of British democracy. We discuss Kruger's critique of Blairism, the expansion of the administrative state, and why he believes Britain is no longer governed by Parliament, but by an unaccountable alliance of civil servants, judges, and quasi-independent institutions. He explains how depoliticisation, judicial activism, and the rise of quangos have hollowed out democratic accountability. The conversation explores Kruger's philosophy of conservatism rooted in family, community, and nation, his defence of civic rather than ethnic nationalism, and his argument that Britain remains a fundamentally Christian civilisation, even as faith has been pushed out of public life. We debate immigration, integration, multiculturalism, and whether British identity can survive rapid demographic and cultural change. We also examine plans to reform the civil service, the House of Lords, and the judiciary, including restoring parliamentary sovereignty, repealing the Human Rights Act, and confronting institutional resistance to democratic mandates.A searching and provocative conversation about power, faith, reform, and whether Britain can recover its constitutional foundations before social and political breakdown accelerates.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------To see more exclusive content and interviews consider subscribing to my substack here: https://www.winstonmarshall.co.uk/-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA:Substack: https://www.winstonmarshall.co.uk/X: https://twitter.com/mrwinmarshallInsta: https://www.instagram.com/winstonmarshallLinktree: https://linktr.ee/winstonmarshall----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Chapters 00:00 Introduction 01:38 What Is “Krugerism” 05:13 Conservatism vs Progressive Modernity07:22 Individualism, God & the Crisis of Meaning11:07 Is Britain Still a Christian Country?14:18 Reform UK vs Wet Toryism17:04 Recovering a Lost Constitution18:40 When Things Started Going Wrong21:09 Civic Nationalism vs Ethnic Nationalism29:35 Immigration, Integration & British Identity32:03 Christianity, Freedom & Social Cohesion35:00 Birth Rates, Family Breakdown & Demography39:24 Islam, Integration & the Limits of Tolerance47:47 Citizen Service & Rebuilding Local Democracy52:17 Taking on the Blob: Civil Service, Courts & Power Hosted on Acast. He Played His Lyre, and The Evil Spirit Would Leave!1 Samuel 16:23 “Whenever the spirit from God came on Saul, David would take up his lyre and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him.”When I heard about this verse, I loved it because it shows us another example of the power of music. When David played his lyre, the evil spirit would leave Saul. Did you know that music could set you free from evil spirits? Are you starting to see the power of praise and worship? Are you starting to see the power of music and singing? Praise and playing musical instruments have been setting captives free for a very long time.God instructed Joshua to have the Israelites march around the city of Jericho once a day for six days, with priests blowing trumpets and the people remaining silent. On the seventh day, they were to march around the city seven times. When the priests sounded the trumpets, Joshua commanded the people to shout, and the walls of Jericho collapsed. God allowed the Israelites to take this city. (Joshua 6:1–20)God reduced Gideon's army from thousands to just three hundred men so that Israel would know the victory came from Him alone. At God's instruction, the men carried trumpets and torches instead of swords. When they blew the trumpets and shouted, God threw the Midianite army into confusion, and the enemy turned on itself. Israel won the battle without fighting by strength, showing that obedience, proclamation, and trust in God released His power. (Judges 7:1–22)When King Jehoshaphat faced a vast enemy army, he sought the Lord, and God declared that the battle belonged to Him. Jehoshaphat sent singers ahead of the army, praising God as they marched into battle. As they worshiped, the Lord caused the enemy armies to turn on one another, and Judah did not have to fight at all. The victory came through praise, revealing that worship invites God to act powerfully on behalf of His people. (2 Chronicles 20:1–30)While imprisoned in Philippi after being beaten and chained, Paul and Silas prayed and sang hymns to God in the middle of the night. As they worshiped, a sudden earthquake shook the prison, opening the doors and loosening everyone's chains. Rather than escaping, Paul and Silas remained, leading the jailer and his household to salvation. Their praise not only brought physical freedom but also opened the way for lives to be saved. (Acts 16:22–34)Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood before King Nebuchadnezzar and refused to bow to the golden image, declaring their unwavering faith in God. They proclaimed that God was able to deliver them from the fiery furnace, but even if He did not, they would not worship any false god. Their words were an act of praise rooted in trust—honoring God above fear, outcome, or survival. Their worship was not expressed through song, but through bold confession of God's power and faithfulness in the face of death. (Daniel 3:16–17)I like this example because it shows us that there are many ways to praise. If you don't like music, if you don't like singing, that doesn't mean that you can't be set free by praise and worship. There are so many ways to praise the Lord. Music happens to be my favorite, and for me, one of the easiest, because if I don't know what to say, there are plenty of others who have written beautiful songs who do know what to say. However, if you don't like music or singing, don't count yourself out. You can praise the Lord with your writing, with your words said outloud. You can praise the Lord with gratitude or in the things you say to others. There isn't just one way to praise the Lord. I pray that by the end of this series, you understand that there are so many different ways to praise. There is a way for everyone. When King Hezekiah received a threatening message from the Assyrian king, he took the letter to the temple and spread it before the Lord. In prayer, Hezekiah praised God as the one true Lord over all kingdoms and asked Him to act so that all would know His power. God responded by promising deliverance, and that very night the Assyrian army was defeated without Judah having to fight a single battle. Hezekiah's prayerful praise and trust in God's sovereignty led to a decisive victory and public recognition of the Lord's supremacy. (2 Kings 19:14–37)Again, this is a different kind of praise. King Hezekiah went in front of the Lord and presented the letter from his enemies. He then praised God as the one true King and asked God for help. Do you see how easy it can be to praise the Lord at times? All it says that he did was to praise the Lord as the one true King over all kingdoms. This is why I have placed a link in the previous episode for the praise sheets that I received at my prayer group. However, you don't even need those sheets. You can simply tell the Lord how great you think He is. I tend to say, “You are the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. You are the Almighty One. We worship you. We adore you, and we glorify you.” You can say whatever it is you think about the Lord.My homework for you today is to stop and think about 5 things you can say to the Lord to praise Him. What is it you think of Him? What do you know to be true about Him? Once you have these 5 things, you can have fewer or more; I just randomly decided on 5. Once you have these, then I want you to say them every single day to the Lord. It doesn't matter when you say them, but try to say them every day and watch how your life changes. Watch how your trust in the Lord begins to grow because you are reminding yourself every day how amazing He is. If you have to ask the Lord for something, start with these few praise statements and then ask Him. Watch to see if there is any difference in the number of answered prayers, or in the way they are answered. This is just one tiny way to add more praise into your life without going overboard or taking up a lot of extra time. Just give it a try. What have you got to lose? What could you gain? Trust me, more praise and worship in your life is exactly what you need right now. I know I may not know you, but I know this is what we all need right now. We need to replace the worry and anxiety of this world with praise and worship, and we then watch our lives feel a bit easier.Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening today. Lord, I ask you to show them the power of praise and worship. I ask that you bless them with graces when they are praising you. I ask that you open their eyes to the ways that praise and worship are changing their lives. Help us to see with your eyes, Lord. Help us to notice more of you in our lives. We love you, Lord, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus! 主播:Flora(中国)+ Erin(美国) 音乐:《成神仙》最近国产动画《中国奇谭2(Yao-Chinese Folktales Season 2)》上线了,大家都看了吗?这部动画的第一集名字是“如何成为三条龙(How To Become Loongs)”,其中有一句台词翻译的很有趣,将“得罪龙王爷”翻译成了“Angered the Loong, the Rain Lord”。01. “龙王爷”翻译成了“the Rain Lord”,lord是什么意思?其实,“龙王爷”在汉语中是一个非常具有中国特色的一个概念,所以翻译的时候需要结合语境(context)。那么,lord在西方文化中到底有什么含义呢?Lord refers to someone who has authority(权威), status(地位), and responsibility(责任感). 总而言之,就是有权力的人。同时,lord与社会秩序(social orders)和等级制度(hierarchy)也有关系。Examples:(1)电影《指环王》的英文名The Lord of the Rings就是指主宰整个戒指体系的索伦,他就是主宰其他戒指的一个统治者(controller)。He has the most power or authority.(2)英国的上议院叫作The House of Lords,因为最早的英国议会就是“贵族们(lords)的议会”。直到今天The House of Lords还在英国沿用。“Lord” doesn't necessarily mean someone who runs everything (掌控一切), but someone with status and influence (影响力). 02. 英文中还有哪些单词可以表示“掌控者”呢?① Ruler 统治者、管理者Ruler是实际管理(govern)和做决策(make decisions)的人,也就是那个有最高权力的掌控者。Basically, a ruler is someone who runs things.② Sovereign 君主、元首Sovereign拥有法律层面上的最高权力(ultimate legal authority)。例如:在电影《权力的游戏(Game of Thrones)》中,坐在铁王座上的人就是七大王国的最高统治者。The person on the Iron Throne isn't just a ruler, they're the sovereign of the Seven Kingdoms.③ King 国王King更强调世袭统治(hereditary rule)、传统(tradition)以及合法性(legitimacy)。例如:查尔斯三世(King Charles III)——伊丽莎白二世和菲利普亲王的长子,就是名正言顺的king。④ Emperor 帝王Emperor掌管一整个帝国(empire), not just a single kingdom (王国). Emperor的头衔和权力都更高更大。例如:秦始皇就是“First Emperor of Qin”。还有罗马皇帝(the Roman Emperor),他们的统治是覆盖多个地区的(multiple regions)。⑤ Master 主人、师傅Master侧重于重掌控别人命运、行为的人。It emphasizes control (控制), not necessarily political power (政治权力). 例如:在电影《星球大战(Star Wars)》中,Darth Vader (达斯·维达) calls Palpatine (帕尔帕廷) “my master”.Master除了有“主人”的意思之外,也可以是“师傅”。It means someone who you learned a unique (特殊的) skill from.⑥ Overlord 霸王Overlords就是对其他的lords有统治权的人(hold power over other lords),但是近几年通常用来形容专横跋扈(tyrannical)的人,特别带有负面意味(negative or villainous tone)。在一些科幻作品或者电子游戏中可能会见到overlords这样的主宰者。Overlord is used for an unwanted or feared ruler (不受欢迎或令人畏惧的统治者), or in video games for the final boss.Final boss(最终BOSS):指电子游戏中最终关卡的最终敌人,通常是游戏中最难打败的敌人。⑦ god 神A god or deity (神) refers to a being beyond humans, someone controlling nature or the universe (宇宙). 它比较抽象(abstract)、和人类很有距离感(distant)。03. 为什么“龙王爷”用“lord”,而不是“king”或“god”?为什么“龙王爷”翻译成了“the Rain Lord”而不是“the Rain King”或者是“the Rain god”呢?(1)King是人类的国王,拥有政权。“龙王爷”不属于这个范畴,所以不能用king。(2)“god” feels a little abstract (抽象的) and distant (遥远的). 它更像是宇宙生物,不像是现实生活中与人有联系的人。但是在中国的民间信仰里,“龙王爷”和人类是有某种人格化关联的。例如:在《中国奇谭2》里面,真正的“龙王爷”知道人们在供奉3条蛇之后,勃然大怒,天空马上就电闪雷鸣了。Villagers fear him, respect (尊敬) him, and depend on (依赖) him. So he's involved in their lives.用“lord”代指“龙王爷”,好在哪里?Lord是权力和责任的象征,不像king的“传承”和“延续”、也不似god的“抽象”和“距离”,所以Lord是比较贴近龙王爷的一个概念。而the Rain Lord里面的“rain”恰好说明了龙王爷掌管降雨的职能。It's not just about status, it's about function (职能) and relationship (关系).04. 中国的“龙”和西方的“dragon”有什么不同呢?龙王爷在《中国奇谭2》里面叫“Loong, the Rain Lord”,“龙”用的是音译词——LOONG。西方的dragon通常有喷火的能力,而且是非常有破坏性的反面角色。中国龙 are powerful but also protective (保护的) and wise (智慧的). 人们通常把中国龙和帝王(emperors)联系到一起。例如:中国古代皇帝的龙袍。“Loong, the Rain Lord”这个翻译抓住了龙王爷的自然属性和神话职能,便于西方观众理解这个角色的作用。欢迎大家在评论区留言:大家有没有看《中国奇谭2》呢?你们觉得怎么样呢?Have you ever watched Yao-Chinese Folktales Season 2? What do you think?
Welcome to Lords of Limited, the podcast dedicated to getting you better at drafting in Magic: the Gathering. This week, we're updating our format thoughts after getting our hands on Lorwyn Eclipsed via the Early Access Event and pre-release weekend. We go over what stood out from a draft and gameplay perspective, how the archetypes and mechanics played out initially, and a whole host of movers up and movers down to get you prepped for ECL going live this week!
If trust in politicians is broken and the political system isn't delivering, then how might we go about fixing things? Can we revive faith in democratic government by doing things differently? The political scientist Hélène Landemore argues that electoral politics is broken and that the answer lies in doing away with career politicians. She imagines dismantling a system that is biased in favour of the special interests of big money, propelled by the constant quest for re-election and the jaded proffering empty promises. In her new book, Politics without Politicians she posits that, among other solutions, we need Athenian style participation through mechanisms such as civic lotteries. More people need to be involved first hand in decision making if everyone is to feel heard. Author and broadcaster Phil Tinline explains why he thinks politicians need to start thinking and talking about power again if they are to stand a chance of delivering on their promises. He argues that if nothing ever changes, then we need to understand who has too much power and who has too little and be prepared to do something about it. Michael Gove is the editor of The Spectator and a member of the House of Lords. He has extensive experience of government, serving in cabinet under four prime ministers between 2010 and 2024. It is widely acknowledged among, both his admirers and his critics, that he rapidly got to grips with his department's brief and knew exactly how to drive an agenda for change. He reflects on his experiences. Producer: Ruth Watts

Chaque 5 novembre, l'Angleterre commémore toujours cet événement : “Remember, remember the Fifth of November…”. Hébergé par Acast. Yesterday was a breathless day in Westminster. The defection of Robert Jenrick spawned plenty of headlines and even more memes. But now that the dust has settled, how has the news been received? Was it a total victory for Reform, and evidence that they are slowly swallowing up the Tory party, or is Kemi still in the race?Today, the assisted dying bill is back in the Lords. As discussions about this legislation drag on, does its implementation look increasingly unlikely?Oscar Edmondson speaks to Tim Shipman and James Heale.Produced by Oscar Edmondson.Become a Spectator subscriber today to access this podcast without adverts. I went into this interview a little nervous - because let's be honest, Mariana van Zeller is famously serious. She interviews assassins, drug lords, traffickers, and people living in the darkest corners of the world. I was fully prepared for an intense, heavy conversation. Instead… we laughed. A lot. This episode ended up being funny, warm, surprising, and genuinely joyful - while still being jaw-dropping. Mariana shares what it was like moving to Syria right out of college to become a reporter, the surreal moments of being picked up in the middle of the night, blindfolded, and driven somewhere unknown, and an interview where she wasn't allowed to bring a phone and had no idea where she was going. We also talk about the personal side of a life spent taking massive risks - how her husband and family support her completely, how she manages fear, and what it really takes to walk into dangerous spaces with empathy instead of ego. This conversation reminded me that the bravest people aren't hardened - they're human, curious, and often unexpectedly funny. Mariana is all of that and more, and this ended up being one of my favorite interviews I've ever done.Listen to Mariana's Podcast The Hidden Third HEREProduced by Dear MediaSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Tim Harford investigates some of the numbers in the news. This week: A headline in the Mail says more than 100 private schools have closed since Labour came to power and ended the VAT exemption for private schools. Is that number right? Is it true that when Covid hit the UK, a one-week delay in imposing lockdown led to 23,000 deaths? Do 10 million families rely on X as their main source of news? That's what government spokesperson Baroness Ruth Anderson said in the House of Lords, but is it correct? s there really a “quiet revival” of Christian worship? Two YouGov polls found churchgoing had gone up by 50% between 2018 and 2024 in England and Wales. New polling data suggests otherwise.
