In this bonus episode of The Sunday Extra podcast, Matt, Jeremy, and Luke begin by sharing their Thanksgiving experiences before discussing the recent sermon delivered by guest speaker Mike Poff, who shared ten lessons he learned during his ministry at Hope Church. The hosts reflect on several key lessons that resonated with them, including "be a learner," "get wise counsel," "ministry comes at inconvenient times," and "God defines success as faithfulness." The conversation then shifts to approaching Christmas with the right mindset, focusing on three critical areas: expectations, priorities, and focus. Matt emphasizes that unspoken or unrealistic expectations lead to disappointment and resentment, while proper priorities should center on pleasing God rather than pursuing happiness directly. The hosts remind listeners that when we focus on Christ rather than ourselves during the Christmas season, true fulfillment follows as a byproduct of our obedience and faithfulness to God's commands, as Ecclesiastes 2:26 teaches that God gives wisdom, knowledge, and happiness to those who please Him.

Repentance is not about fixating on our sin, it is about fixing our eyes on the One we love. When we turn from sin and turn to Him, we find the freedom, direction, and purpose our hearts long for. There is an invitation to give Him everything and to cut off anything that hinders our love for Jesus. Are we choosing to define our lives by Christ alone? Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.

Hope Church - Life's Big Questions_ How Can We Be Less Judgy? - 11_9_25 by Hope Church Utah
Repentance is more than remorse. It is a turning from everything that is not the Lord and a turning to Him with our whole hearts. Scripture shows us that repentance begins with a change of mind and leads to a change of life. It is the doorway to renewal, freedom, and intimacy with God. This message invites us to return to repentance, where transformation begins and grace meets us again. Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.

Faith invites us to believe, and obedience invites us to become. Through the stories of the Old Testament, we learn that belief without obedience leads to delay and wandering, but obedience is always the doorway into God's promises. In this message, we'll see how radical obedience moves us closer to the heart of God and how Jesus' own obedience opened the way for us to follow Him in freedom. Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.

Sometimes God's “no” feels like a dead end, but as we see in Acts 16, for Paul it became the doorway to revival. In this Sunday's message, Pastor Steve shares how God's redirection opens the way for His greater purpose. When we surrender to His voice and follow where He's leading, we begin to see a move of God take shape. Where in your life is God saying no, not to stop you, but to steer you? Hope Church - Imperfect Examples of God's Love - 10_26_25 by Hope Church Utah
A sermon by Bishop Talbert W. Swan, II at Spring of Hope Church of God in Christ
Romans 6:15-23 confronts us with a profound truth: we will serve someone or something, whether we acknowledge it or not. This passage challenges the dangerous notion that grace gives us license to continue in sin, asking the piercing question: are we to sin because we're under grace rather than law? The answer rings clear—absolutely not. We're presented with only two masters: sin leading to death, or obedience leading to righteousness. There's no third option, no middle ground where we can blend worldly living with Christian faith. The transformation that comes through Christ isn't an addition to our existing life—it's a complete metamorphosis. We see this illustrated through the story of Elisha, who burned his oxen and plows, eliminating any possibility of retreat to his former life. Similarly, Jesus' disciples left their nets, their boats, and even their father immediately when called. This radical commitment stands in stark contrast to the lukewarm Christianity described in Revelation 3, where the church of Laodicea was neither hot nor cold, prompting Christ to say He would spit them from His mouth. The parable of the sower reminds us that only one in four who hear the word will produce lasting fruit. The question we must wrestle with is this: which soil are we? Are we clinging to escape plans and old relationships that keep us tethered to our former slavery, or are we willing to take that first step of obedience, trusting God will reveal the next?### Sermon Notes**Scripture**: Romans 6:15-23**Introduction**: - Rick, a pastor at Hope Church, continues the study of Romans, focusing on Romans 6. - Reminder that they preach through books of the Bible, emphasizing the importance of scripture-based preaching.**Key Points**:1. **Understanding Sin and Grace**: - The question Paul raises: Are we to sin because we are under grace, not the law? - Emphasis on morality within the law and grace.2. **Analogy of Slavery**: - Paul uses the analogy of being slaves to sin versus slaves to righteousness. - Bob Dylan's illustration: "You gotta serve somebody."3. **Transformation through Salvation**: - Christianity is not just an addition but a transformation of life. - The old self versus the new self: Embrace becoming a slave to righteousness.4. **Challenges in Christian Walk**: - Temptation to mix worldly views and new belief systems with Christianity. - Importance of separating from past sinful lifestyles and friendships.5. **Practical Illustrations**: - Rick's personal testimony about radical change after accepting Christ. - Importance of cutting off past connections that hinder spiritual growth.6. **Reasons for Struggling with Sin**: - Continually resurrecting old sinful behaviors. - Lack of suffering or commitment in serving God wholeheartedly. - Not eliminating the past life entirely.7. **Biblical References to Commitment**: - Examples of Elisha burning his plow and the disciples leaving everything to follow Jesus. - The rich young ruler's story: Heart's attachment to possessions.8. **Fruit of Righteousness**: - Encouragement to analyze life for spiritual fruit. - Belonging entirely to Christ results in sanctification and eternal life.**Practical Applications**:1. **Cut Ties with Sin**: - Identify and remove old habits and relationships that hinder spiritual growth.2. **Embrace Transformation**: - Acknowledge that faith in Christ leads to a completely changed life, not just an addition to current beliefs.3. **Serve with Zeal**: - Dedicate the same energy formerly given to sin towards serving God.4. **Evaluate Your Life**: - Regularly assess if your life reflects the fruit of righteousness or if it's still tied to the old self.5. **Take Steps of Faith**: - Listen for God's direction and take incremental steps towards fulfilling His call.**Discussion Questions**:1. How does understanding that we are under grace, not the law, change your perspective on sin and righteousness?2. What are some steps you can take to ensure you're living as a "slave to righteousness" rather than a slave to sin?3. Are there aspects of your past life that you are still holding onto, and how can you fully commit them to God?4. How has your commitment to Christ transformed your everyday life and decisions?5. Discuss a time when taking a small step of faith led to a significant spiritual victory or growth in your life.

What does it really mean to live as Kingdom people in a world that often walks in darkness? In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world—His standard-bearers of truth and hope. When God's people show up and live counter to the culture around them, society is preserved, lives are changed, and the Kingdom of God is revealed. There is an invitation for us to embrace our identity, stand firm in God's Word, and bring impact in every layer of life. Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.

In this Sunday's message, “It's Harvest Time,” Pastor Josh walks us through John 4, where Jesus meets a Samaritan woman and reveals God's heart to reach people right where they are. The life-changing power of Christ is a free gift, and He leans into our brokenness to lead us to truth. Jesus did not come to shame; He came to claim, inviting us into honesty that leads to surrender and freedom. Our response to the revelation of who He is becomes the key to transformation. Now is the time to step into the harvest and share the good news of Jesus with the world. Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.

God's heart beats for the harvest, both in the world and right here in our city. In Matthew 9, Jesus saw the crowds and was moved with compassion, and He calls us to carry that same heart. Compassion is more than a feeling; it leads us to action and often opens the door for the miraculous. The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Will we be the ones who pray, who go, and who carry God's heart into the field? This is an invitation to let God change our hearts so we can see His Spirit move in power.
