December 4, 2022Pastor Matt KendrickMary's Song of PraiseLuke 1:46-55Mary starts her song by singing, “My soul magnifies… the Lord.” She does not make it about herself. We're called to magnify Jesus and be his hands and feet in Fort Worth and around the world. The real joy of following Jesus is... following Jesus; to follow in His footsteps, to see what He did, and to act just like Him. We exist to magnify JesusJesus sees: the other, the overlooked, & the obviousMary accepts this high calling in her “humble estate", praising the Lord and giving all credit to HimThank you for listening! For more info on Redemption City Church check out our website. Mary, did you know? Of course she did. The angel Gabriel delivered a startling message to this unmarried teenager that she would be the mother of the MESSIAH and she BELIEVED. She went on to live out a life that proved she knew her God and believed what He said and gives us hope that we can be that kind of mama, too. Join us for this look into this famous Christmas mama and for a little Christmas sing-a-long of our most loved and most detested holiday songs. Series: Christmas According to LukeMessage Text: Luke 1:46-55Mary was more than the mother of Jesus. This woman formed Jesus to see the upside-down kingdom from the time he was in her womb. Do we see the world like Mary?
Luke 1:46–55Mary's Song of Praise: The Magnificat[46] And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, [47] and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, [48] for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; [49] for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. [50] And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. [51] He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; [52] he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; [53] he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. [54] He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, [55] as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever.” (ESV)
Luke 1:46-55Mary responded, “Oh, how I praise the Lord. How I rejoice in God my Savior! For God took notice of his lowly servant girl, and now generation after generation forever shall call me blest of God. For God, the mighty Holy One, has done great things to me. God’s mercy goes on from generation to generation, to all who reverence God.“How powerful is God’s mighty arm! How God scatters the proud and haughty ones! God has torn princes from their thrones and exalted the lowly. God has satisfied the hungry hearts and sent the rich away with empty hands. And how God has helped his servant Israel! God has not forgotten his promise to be merciful. For God promised our fathers—Abraham and his children—to be merciful to them forever.”//The Magnificat is no gentle hymn, however often it’s been sung by choir boys at evensong. It’s a fiery manifesto, declaring not only the birth of a baby, but the birth of a whole new world order. And the one proclaiming it is not one meek and mild but a mighty prophet.-Rev. Daniel Brereton//What song will you sing about God’s work in your life and in our world? In your own words, why is the Magnificat a “fiery manifesto”?//This episode was written and recorded by Rev. Daniel Brereton. It was produced by Jim Keat.
