The God of King DavidJuly 27, 2025David's Song of PraiseTeacher: Dave BrownA.C.T.S. OF PRAYERAdorationConfessionThanksgivingSupplicationWHY PRAY?Prayer is not a magic formula to crack so that we can get what we want. If that's our understanding of prayer, we will always be disappointed.Prayer is about presence before it's about anything else. Prayer doesn't begin with outcomes. Prayer is the free choice to be with the Father, to prefer his company.— Tyler StatonPrayer is about intimacy and identity.1 - INTIMACYDavid sang to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.— 2 Samuel 22:1The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.— 1 Kings 19:10-12Maybe God whispers not because he's evasive but because he's intimate. Maybe he whispers because it's the only way to get what he wants most. What was lost in Eden—to walk with you and I in the cool of the day. To know him and discover ourselves fully known in his presence.— Tyler StatonGod invites us to meet him in the intimacy of the whisper. When we try to fabricate a mountaintop experience to meet with God, all we end up building is a tower of Babel.2 - GOD'S IDENTITYThe Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior.— 2 Samuel 22:2-3a3 - OUR IDENTITYYou, Lord, are my lamp; the Lord turns my darkness into light. With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall… It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. He makes my feet like the feet of the deer; he causes me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You make your saving help my shield; your help has made me great.— 2 Samuel 22:29-30; 33-36Nothing but prayer will ever reveal you to yourself, because only before God can you see and become your true self… Prayer is learning who you are before God and giving him your essence.— Timothy Keller4 - PRAYER IS A PRACTICE

The post Psalm 145: A Song of Praise appeared first on Christ the King Presbyterian Church.
This psalm puts the Lord's victorious reign before us. Here is a mighty song of praise that reminds the people of God that the LORD is King and that no one and nothing will defeat the Lord our God. There is also a messianic element to this psalm that points us to King Jesus, who conquered death and rules over all. May the truths of this psalm lead all who trust in Christ to rejoice and praise the God who reigns.
Did you know that the book of Job was actually the first written book in the Bible? Long before Genesis was ever written. Ever get confused on the timeline of how things happened? Have you ever got confused and said that Noah split the Red Sea? Today, we continue to walk through a Chronological order of the Bible, in Joe's simple, easy to understand way. If you've never done a Bible Study, this is the place to start. It will help make sense of the entire Bible. Make sure to go back and start with Part 1. which aired on June 13, 2021. Text: 1 Samuel 2:1-10
This is message 36 in the Isaiah series. Isaiah 38:1-22 Hezekiah, facing certain death from an incurable illness, turned in desperation to the Lord and pleaded for mercy. God, in His compassion, heard his prayer, extended his life by fifteen years, and gave a miraculous sign by turning back the shadow on the sundial. In gratitude, Hezekiah composed a song of praise, recognizing that his healing was not only physical but also a reminder of God's forgiveness and grace. His restored life pointed him back to worship and service, teaching that every moment of life is a gift to believe to God's glory. Throughout First and Second Samuel we hear about David. But in 2 Samuel 22 we hear the voice of David speaking in first person David speaking directly to his loving God. No longer the voice of a Warrior but David speaking as a poet announcing his love to his loving Father. In this Psalm we also are invited to offer our praise and devotion to our Most High God who remains faithful and kind throughout each and every generation.

[John 16:7-8] But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don't, the Advocate won't come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. [Romans 8:1-2] So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. We continue learning King David's song, which can be divided into sections.
David reflects on his life and writes this song of praise to Hashem. How is this song different than Psalms 18?
1 Sam 1:20-2:10. Hannah allowed her need and troubles to bring her to prayer and to faith in God. Her sadness was turned to rejoicing when God answered her prayer, in His way and in His time. In her song of praise she makes amazing declarations about the person, plan and the sovereignty of God. […]

For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is for those who fear Him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; He has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty. David's last psalm is a fitting end for describing his life.
In the small town of Nazareth, an angel told a humble virgin girl that she would be God's chosen instrument through whom the deliverer would come. And, though she couldn't fully comprehend all this would entail, Mary received the Lord's word and took her place in God's unfolding plan of redemption. In this episode of White Horse Inn, hosts Michael Horton, Justin Holcomb, Bob Hiller, and Walter Strickland dive into Mary's song of praise. They consider how this simple girl became the mother of the mediator, how she responded to the responsibility of caring for the Savior of the world, and what her life means to us.
