If you think gutting it through grief or falling in a hole during grief will make the pain stop or result in better days, you need to listen to this episode. Our expectations of the grief process are based on emotional expectations or the pressure of what we think our faith should do in our journey. Grief is really not a topic people want to talk about, so there are so many things that aren't shared as we travel this difficult road. What about your brain? Remember that commercial about – this is your brain and then they showed a frying pan and said, this is your brain on drugs? Well, grief also physically affects your brain. Today we'll talk about how it affects your brain which will give you a little relief and hopefully increase the grace you give yourself in grief. WORD of the week Be Still and Know that I am God. Episode Summary After years of not being able to Be Still and Know that He is God, I was finally able to form the habit of daily prayer, reflection, journaling and stillness. I was able to not just always be asking but instead actively listen for what God was saying in return to me. This week's episode tells the story of one such time where not only did I hear God's voice but I also saw a perfectly shaped heart form in the froth of my hot chocolate that was nearby. I am now on a mission to collect stories and testimonials of others who have also had experiences of hearing the voice of God so we can be an example to others out there who wish to know HOW it can be something they experience too. This is a lovely collection of the most powerful psalms to use for a sleep meditation. I read Psalms 4,16, 23, 57,65, 72,90,91, 111, 112, 113 and 150 The Psalms have magical power and will work whether you believe or not. Each word carries vibrational resonance that can be felt in your bones with ancestral memory. In the book Secrets of the Psalms by Godfrey Selig he classifiesPsalm 4 for luckPsalm 16 to turn Sorrow Into JoyPsalm 23 to Receive Instruction Through A Dream Or VisionPsalm 57 to make yourself fortunate in any of your undertakingsPsalm, 65 to become fortunate in all undertakingsPsalm 72 to make yourself forever safe from povertyPsalm 90 To protect from evil spiritsPsalm 91 to protect against danger of evilPsalm 111 to increase your power and friendsPsalm 112 to increase your powerPsalm 113 to increase your powerPsalm 150 For dedication Joseph Murphy and Neville Goddard continually spoke about the power of psalms and their magical power. The book of Psalms is a collection of Israel's sacred hymns, compiled and edited over a long period of time, most likely from the 10th century until the 2nd century B.C. they are prayers for success and prosperity,r to reign in the mist of your enemies, for help in time of trouble, for protection, for justice, praise and thanksgiving, for confidence, for unity. By passively listening in a sleep meditation you reprogram your subconscious on a deep level using ancestral triggers and raising your vibration, power and protection. It is amazingly powerful and effective. Intro 00:00Meditation Begins 4:33Psalms Begin 23:00 Buy My Art - Unique Sigil Magic And Energy Activation Through Flow Art. It's always nice to be reminded that we don't have to be going nonstop in life. It's okay to "Take a Minute". Hell, take more than one. For some of us it is difficult to just BE STILL. I know that I have to remind myself everyday that I'm not responsible for everything and everyone. So we hope you are encouraged to take a minute to be, to exist, and to breathe.

I'm not sure what comes to your mind when you ponder the title of this article. I suppose those words are not commonly spoken. In my own history, I can think of times I certainly have behaved. I also recall some times I have not. Hopefully the times I have behaved are becoming my norm as I work hard to know God better. Anyway, I'd like to delve into this unusual statement. Rachel Faulkner Brown is a returning guest to our podcast! If you didn't have a chance to listen to her past episode (Episode #22) give it a listen, but without giving too much away, Rachel's story is full of heartbreak and hope. She has lived through the passing of two husbands and in the past episode she walks us through these tragedies showing how God showed up and carried her through. She has since been remarried, and has thrived as a wife, mother, author and founder of ministries. Be Still is a ministry created to encourage and equip women through gatherings, a podcast and online resources! It's impossible not to get excited as she cultivates a space for women with such depth and fun! She also has a specific ministry created for widows called Never Alone. Here she has similar elements available (gatherings, conferences and online connection) but with specific topics and support for those who have lost their husbands. Needless to say her work is dynamic, her impact is evident and we're just thrilled to have her with us today! Quotes: We are in union with Jesus. You cannot get out of union. What you activate your mind to, you will see. The more you can behold [Jesus], the more you become [like him]. #Returning Guest #Author #speaker #podcaster #blogger #Christian writer #womensconferences #videos #healing #widow #grief #hope #joy #Never Alone, Be Still Where can people find you? rachelfaulknerbrown.net neveralonewidows.com bestillministries.net Instagram: rachelfaulknerbrown Books: Father's House: The Path that Leads Home His Name: Our Hope in Grief

Latte and Laundry: A home for Catholic women, moms, and hearts
Happy New Year! One of my all-time favorite Bible verses has been ringing in my ears for years; "Be Still and Know that I am God" - Psalms 46;10. Yet, this isn't some simple reminder to know who God is, but rather it is a direct command by the King of the World to first BE STILL before we can fully know God. This week I discuss the word that God has called my heart to focus on this year: Hush. As an extrovert, podcaster, and one who loves to chat with others, it is no surprise that God calls me to a quiet hush as he teaches me, teaches all of us, how to be stilled in Him. There is a constant call placed upon the heart of each of us to still our hearts in Christ. In fact, this a continuation of the main mission here at Latte & Laundry, which is to journey towards stilling our souls while moving our world. Learning how to sit still at the feet of Christ like Mary, while moving in this world like Martha. I hope you all have a blessed new year! I'd love to hear what word God has given you and how he is working in your heart!Blessings, SuzanneIf this episode blessed you, I would be so honored if you shared it with a friend, rated it, or left us a review! I always love to connect :suzanne @latteandlaundry.com
A number of years ago, my Twitter pinged. Then it pinged again. All of a sudden, a whole host of people were following the show, and when I giddily found the source, it was the soulful and stylish Avery Trufelman, longtime 99% Invisible producer, currently of Articles of Interest, and fashionista tastemaker, who had pronounced The Lonely Palette her favorite art history podcast. Bestill my heart! It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship, a kinship between co-founders of a mutual admiration society where the stories of stuff - art, objects, design, things, everything they say you can't put on the radio - reigned supreme. Avery and I popped into our respective closets to chat about writing, audio, art, fashion, the trappings of podcast success, storytelling in a heated political climate, trusting your voice, that infamous cerulean blue scene in The Devil Wears Prada, ranking the heroes of epic poetry, and much more. "Once the star in the sky is gone and the kings are back home, that is when the work of Christmas begins." -Howard ThurmanHow would you describe the work of Christmas?//Luke 2:8-20Now in that same region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for see, I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!”When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.” So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph and the child lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them, and Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told them.//This episode was written and recorded by Rev. "God doesn't seek the palaces of the privileged but God seeks to be in the dust and the dirt, the muck and the mire, the realness of humanity. God is not found in the holy and the sacred places but among the ordinary people and the ordinary moments of our lives."Where have you found God lately?//Luke 1:26-38In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” The angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God. And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.” Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.//This episode was written and recorded by Rev. When Gwen and I were deciding what to name this week's episode, Gwen's title was 'Taking a Pause Before the Claus comes to Town: Last minute tips to survive the holiday.' I chuckled at the title's length and changed it to 'Last Minute Christmas Tips.' It turned out, however, Gwen was right, maybe not about the length of the title, but about needing to put the word ‘pause' into the title. This turns out to be key for more than one reason. First of all, we do need to pause before heading out to family gatherings this holiday season. We talk and plan and figure out what we can and can't do. We make backup plans and even escape plans to implement if things get too overwhelming, but an equally important piece that can be easy to overlook is to take a minute to pause. Before rushing out of the house, take some time for yourself. Take some deep breaths. Just be present in the moment. Take a break from the busyness. Pause. That brings me to the second reason that putting the word ‘pause' in the title this week is perfect. When I hear Gwen talk about taking a minute to pause, the words that jump into my mind are ‘be still.' Whenever Andy was feeling anxious about anything in life big or small, I would remind him to breathe and ‘be still.' His Bible verse that he truly clung to was Psalm 46:10 - Be still and know that I am God. Reciting those words during anxious moments would put his mind in a better place. This week at the Grand Rapids Choir of Men and Boys annual Lessons and Carols concert, a song written by guest conductor, Richard Webster, in memory of Andy, debuted. The title was ‘Be Still and Know that I am God.' It was the most painful and beautiful and meaningful song I have ever heard in my life. A gorgeous piece of music was written to honor my boy that reminds choirs all over the world to take a minute to pause and to be still. So today, in the midst of the holiday bustle, I say to all of you the words that I said to Andy so many times, “Be Still.” *Listen to the end to hear the song. "After all the meditating is done, not forever, but for the moment—we are called to act—to follow Jesus into the world—doing the gospel."As you follow Jesus into the world, where is he leading you?//Luke 3:15-18As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah, John answered all of them by saying, “I baptize you with water; but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.” So, with many other exhortations, he proclaimed the good news to the people.//This episode was written and recorded by Rev. "We need God-with-us to fight off systems of injustice, to learn how to love our neighbors, and to enjoy this beautiful world that God has given us."How does 'Immanuel' inspire and empower you to work for justice in this world?//Isaiah 7:10-16Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, saying, “Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.” Then Isaiah said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary mortals that you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look, the young woman is with child and shall bear a son and shall name him Immanuel. He shall eat curds and honey by the time he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good. "If the Lord is calling you to play a particular role, whether it is to birth a dream of your own or to support the birth of another person's dream, fear not."What dream is God inviting you to support or give birth to?//Matthew 1:18-25Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be pregnant from the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to divorce her quietly. But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet:“Look, the virgin shall become pregnant and give birth to a son,and they shall name him Emmanuel,”which means, “God is with us.” When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife but had no marital relations with her until she had given birth to a son, and he named him Jesus.//This episode was written and recorded by Rev. "Dear God, please enlarge our hearts to love each other, to love our neighbor, and to love our enemy as our friend."What would it look like for God to enlarge your heart?//Matthew 11:2-11When John heard in prison what the Messiah was doing, he sent word by his disciples and said to him, “Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?” Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with a skin disease are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news brought to them. And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me.”As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to look at? A reed shaken by the wind? What, then, did you go out to see? Someone dressed in soft robes? Look, those who wear soft robes are in royal palaces. What, then, did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written,‘See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,who will prepare your way before you.'“Truly I tell you, among those born of women no one has arisen greater than John the Baptist, yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.//This episode was written and recorded by Rev.
