n the kingdom of Wallachia (in modern-day Romania) the Goths undertook a brutal persecution of Christians. A Gothic prince came to the village of Buzau and asked the villagers if any Christians lived there. They swore to him that there were none. At this, Sabbas came before the Prince and said 'Let no one swear an oath on my behalf. I am a Christian.' Touched by his courage, the prince let Sabbas go, saying 'This one can do neither harm nor good.'   The following year a priest named Sansal came to the village and celebrated Pascha with Sabbas (who was truly the only Christian there). When the pagans heard of this, they attacked Sabbas' house and seized both men. They dragged Sabbas naked through thorns, then tied both him and Sansal to trees and tried to make them eat meat offered to idols. Neither man would touch the sacrifices. The prince then sentenced Sabbas to death and gave him over to the soldiers. Sabbas walked to the place of execution joyfully, singing and praising God. Seeing his goodness, the soldiers tried to free him on the way, but Sabbas refused, telling them that it was their duty to carry out the prince's command.   The soldiers took him to a river, tied a rock to his neck and cast him into the waters, where he gave back his soul to God. Some Christians later recovered his body and gave it honorable burial. The saint was 31 years old at the time of his martyrdom. In the reign of the Emperor Valens, the Greek commander Ionnios Soranos found the Saint's body during a war against the Goths, and took it to Cappadocia.

In today's episode, I dive into the rich tapestry of Aaron Johnson's life journey from the "sexy town" of Phelan, California to his transformative work addressing touch deprivation among Black men. Aaron's storytelling is magnetic as he recounts discovering the sacredness of his desert homeland through acapella singing with his siblings, navigating dyslexia and special education, and finding his way to CalArts despite the odds. What strikes me most is Aaron's profound concept of "magic" – that ineffable quality statistics can't measure but that fuels human potential beyond paper predictions. His candid revelation about the creation of his Chronically Under-Touched Project hits like lightning; when he asked a young Black mentee "When was the last time you received three minutes of thoughtful platonic touch?" and discovered it had been fifteen years, Aaron unearthed an urgent and overlooked epidemic. His work now challenges the violent touch narratives dominating Black male experience while offering healing alternatives, reminding us that sometimes transformative work begins with the simplest question nobody thought to ask.Bio: Aaron Johnson is a public speaker, facilitator, and touch activist, fostering environments where Black-bodied individuals can express their full selves. As a founder of Holistic Resistance, Grief to Action and The Chronically UnderTouched Project, Aaron takes the time to hold the stories of Black people around homophobia, transphobia, and internalized racism. Aaron's journey began, as it does for many Black men, with lack of loving and platonic touch. Now, Aaron assists other Black men in developing holistic touch practices to move from a Chronically UnderTouched state into touch balance. Aaron aims to create spaces for Black people and People of the Global Majority (PGM/BIPOC) to connect with each other and the earth. He and his team are establishing retreats and workshops on Black-owned land in the Mojave Desert and beyond to promote emotional and physical tenderness, platonic connection, and singing, which enhances the healing process for those overlooked by mainstream society. Website

In today's episode we are talking about the act and art of touch. Touch is one of our primary attachment needs and we need it from cradle to grave. Touch is often a hot button issue between couples. Distance and disconnection in the relationship can create anxiety and pressure around touch. What stops touch from happening between you and your partner? Ask yourself is there a cycle that comes alive when one of us is seeking touch and what can we learn from it? Laurie and George share more about how vulnerable it can be to receive touch and that a key to safety in this area is non-sexual touch. Increasing affection that isn't centered around sex but strengthening the attachment need in the relationship. It's important to reduce the pressure here, work on relational safety and get curious with each other. You'll take away ideas on how to promote non-sexual touch, exercises that stimulate pleasure and little ways to enjoy more touch together. Pastor Ray Bentley says, we need to remember everything was created by Jesus. And for Jesus, your only happiness and fulfillment is when you know and understand and begin to live. When the realization that I am made for the Lord, and that everything I do in one way or another should be a reflection of him, and draw me near to him and live for him purposefully and passionately.

We have some very cool stories of saintly intercession! This episode emphasizes that the Saints are not objects of worship, but heavenly friends who pray for us. Elizabeth and I are still scratching our heads on how a particular ring found its way back into our kitchen and was discovered in a most impossible place. Leslie, a non-Catholic, decided to throw a prayer toward St. Anthony, in hopes of getting her dog back. She also let St. Anthony know that it was her first time, and that Trapper Jack said it was a good idea. Meanwhile, Sarah was looking to St. Thérèse of Lisieux for her usual sign of roses, if the saint was on board with Sarah's choice for a husband. A dozen red roses were soon found in the grocery store where red roses should never be found.
