We explore the significance of the judges and their role as leaders and deliverers of the nation, empowered by God. The episode delves into the consequences of Israel's disobedience, their abandonment of God, and the worship of false gods. We also focus on the story of Gideon, a notable judge who experienced God's miraculous intervention in defeating the Midianites through just 300 men. Despite judges raised up by God to deliver the people, the cycle of rebellion and deliverance continues.Bible ReadingsJudges 1:27-36Judges 2:1-23Judges 7:1-23Support the showRead along with us in the Bible Brief App! Throughout the Gospel accounts of Jesus, we see Him perform so many incredible miracles. These moments separate Jesus from comparison to any other religious figure throughout human history. We have to wrestle with why so many are collected and shared when they are beyond our comprehension. The miracles in the Gospel of Luke are more than moments of wonder but invitations to learn from and worship our Lord. This week, we explore Luke 4:31-41 ESV and the first miracle Luke focuses on revealing the authority of Jesus. Speaker: Michael Bayne Text: Luke 4:31-41 ESV

Moses delivers am encouraging speech, reminding the Israelites of their duties and responsibilities as they enter the Promised Land. He tells of the blessings that come with obedience to God's Law and curses that come from forgetting and disobeying the Law. As Joshua takes over leadership, God demonstrates His power through miraculous signs, including the parting of the Jordan River and the fall of the fortified city of Jericho.Bible ReadingsDeuteronomy 30:15-20Joshua 5:13-15Joshua 6:1-21Support the showRead along with us in the Bible Brief App! The Limitless Abundance of God's Being

    The Kingdom Perspective

Transcript:Hello, this is Pastor Don of Christ Redeemer Church. Welcome to The Kingdom Perspective. Our God is a god of generosity and abundance. We see this in several ways. First is the limitlessness of His very being. God is not bound by time and space. He's not bound by anything outside Himself, at all. God needs nothing to exist for He is being itself, and so, He alone possesses the power to call into being that which does not exist. Secondly, God's abundance is demonstrated in all He has made. The universe we see is bigger than we can imagine. It's only been about a hundred years or so since Edwin Hubble discovered that our galaxy is one among others. Since that time, we've learned there are at least hundreds of billions of galaxies, each on average containing billions of stars. And we are discovering more all the time! This means that from our human vantage point, for all practical purposes, the universe God made is beyond limit. But all of this is backdrop to His greatest demonstration of generosity of all—the abundance of the riches of His grace toward us in Christ Jesus! When God decided to redeem fallen humanity, He spared no expense. He liquidated the full riches of heaven. He gave us the fullness of Himself in Christ. As Paul puts it in Ephesians, He has “blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 1:3). The God we serve is not stingy. Why in the world should we be? Something to think about from The Kingdom Perspective. “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”~Ephesians 2:1-7 (ESV)

Are you willing to be in it for the long haul? Serving and loving our neighbors isn't a one and done event. We have to be willing to wait seasons and seasons to share God's love with people. Acts 26:27-29 ESV 27 King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you believe.” 28 And Agrippa said to Paul, “In a short time would you persuade me to be a Christian?” 29 And Paul said, “Whether short or long, I would to God that not only you but also all who hear me this day might become such as I am—except for these chains.” Following Jesus and enjoying life are not opposite ends of the spectrum. xodus 10 records plagues 8 and 9 – the ravenous grasshoppers (plague locusts) and the intense supernatural darkness, which gripped every Egyptian household. Israel has been learning of what Yahweh's Name meant personally to them. Remember that God has severed His people from the Egyptians from plague 4 onwards. Well might they say what the Psalmist recorded (27 verse 1), “The LORD is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear” (ESV). Note that the record in Exodus 10 verses 23 shows that the Israelites were given light from their Deliverer. After the 8th plague Pharaoh's nobles pleaded with him to give in to the God of Israel before Moses, as His representative, totally destroyed Egypt. Pharaoh proposed a compromise by allowing the adult males opportunity to sacrifice. Moses said, No: everyone must be allowed to leave. Moses and Aaron were forcibly driven from Pharaoh's presence. This stubbornness from Pharaoh resulted in Moses, invoking Yahweh's might, bringing the most devastating and ravenous locusts ever seen in Egypt. Pharaoh hastily summoned the LORD's envoys telling them that he was sorry for his mistake. The locusts were taken away, but Israel's Sovereign knew the king's response would be to harden his heart once Pharaoh had been given remission. The plague of unnatural darkness followed entirely enveloping every Egyptian household for 3 days and producing terror. Pharaoh, once again, calls for Moses and Aaron and tells them that all the people can go, but the livestock must stay. Not so, says Moses, we must bring our offerings with us. Pharaoh would not hear any of this and told Moses and Aaron to leave and never come back – if you see me again it will be your death sentence. cont reading... https://christadelphianvideo.org/thoughts-on-the-readings-for-february-4th-exodus-10-psalms-64-65-romans-15-16/

In this episode, we delve into the biblical account of the Golden Calf incident and the Israelites' refusal to enter the Promised Land. After ratifying the Sinai Covenant with God, the people quickly turn to false worship and demand that Aaron, Moses' brother, create a golden calf for them to worship. Meanwhile, Moses pleads with God to spare the people and reminds Him of His promises and reputation. Later, as the Israelites reach the border of the Promised Land, twelve spies are sent to explore it. However, fear and doubt prevail as ten of the spies bring back a negative report, leading to the people's refusal to enter the land. Proverbs 5:22 An evil man is held captive by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him. (NLT) John 8:32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (ESV) John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (ESV) Romans 6:18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. (ESV) Romans 6:22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. (NIV) Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (NIV) 6 Steps To Break Free From Addictions 1. Look to Jesus for hope and help Mark 5:6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. (NIV) 2. Be honest about your addiction Luke 8:30 Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. (NIV) Proverbs 28:13 Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. (NIV) 3. Build healthy boundaries Luke 8:33 When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned. (NIV) Proverbs 28:13 People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy. (NLT) 2 Timothy 2:22 Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (NIV) 1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. (NIV) 1 Thessalonians 5:22 Stay away from every kind of evil. (NLT) 4. Replace bad habits with good habits Luke 8:35 People rushed out to see what had happened. A crowd soon gathered around Jesus, and they saw the man who had been freed from the demons. He was sitting at Jesus’ feet, fully clothed and perfectly sane, and they were all afraid. (NLT) 2 Timothy 2:22 Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (NIV) 5 HOLY HABITS 1. Daily time with God 2. Attend Church every Sunday 3. Serve on the Dream Team 4. Give God the first 10 percent 5. Attend a small group 5. Surround yourself with godly friends Proverbs 13:20 Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. (NIV)  1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” (NIV) Hebrews 10:25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Take it one day at a time Luke 8:39 “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him. (NIV)

Matthew 8:23–27 Jesus Calms a Storm [23] And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. [24] And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. [25] And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” [26] And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. [27] And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?” (ESV)

PSALM 36 For the director of music. Of David the servant of the Lord. 1 I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes. 2 In their own eyes they flatter themselves too much to detect or hate their sin. 3 The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act wisely or do good. 4 Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful course and do not reject what is wrong. 5 Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. 6 Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, Lord, preserve both people and animals. 7 How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8 They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. 9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. 10 Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart. 11 May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. 12 See how the evildoers lie fallen—thrown down, not able to rise! FROM THE LESSON Three sections of Psalm 36 Section 1: Verses 1-4 are in the form of a lament. Section 2: Verses 5-9 are in the form of a praise or hymn. Section 3: Verses 10-12 are in the form of a prayer. No Fear of God "To have no fear of God is failing to believe not that He exists but that He matters" Timothy Keller The Four Chambers of God's Heart 1 Your love reaches to the heavens (verse 5) 2 Your faithfulness reaches to the skies (verse 5) 3 Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains (verse 6) 4 Your justice is like the great deep (verse 6) Definition of Hesed The Hebrew word occurs 245 in the Old Testament but it is really difficult to translate into English. It is a bigger and better word than our English word for love. The ESV translates is as "steadfast love." The NLT translates it as "unfailing love." It is love "with super glue on it." It is love with an "mmph." DISCUSSION QUESTIONS ICE BREAKER: Can you think of an example of how you have personally experienced the pervasiveness in our culture of the message to "follow your heart?" 1. In verses 1-4, David laments the condition of the human heart. Read these verses again. What stands out to you about his description?  2. Keller's description of what it means to have no fear of God is helpful. Discuss his description with your group. Can you think of an example from your life when you or someone close to you was indifferent to God? 3. In verses 5-6, David praises the beauty of God's heart. Read these verses again. How does the idea that these four attributes are all part of God's heart help you to think about the heart of God?  4. Hesed is a great Hebrew word that does not translate well into English. What are some ways you have understood or been taught to think about hesed? Read again verses 7-9. How do these descriptions of hesed help you to understand? 5. The takeaway from the lesson today is to not follow your heart, but instead to know God's heart. Discuss this takeaway with your group.

ESV 1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
