On February 19th 2005 a young woman lost her life to a man she met on the internet. Her murder, though horrific, became exactly what the police needed to catch a man preying upon a very vulnerable group of people on the internet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroshi_Maeue, https://murderpedia.org/male.M/m/maeue-hiroshi.htm, https://www.murdermurdermurder.com/hiroshi-maeue, https://www.jiadep.org/Maeue_Hiroshi.html, https://en-academic.com/dic.nsf/enwiki/6214702, https://medium.com/true-crime-addiction/the-suicide-serial-killer-of-japan-true-crime-494ed2be8514
The internet is a vast and wonderful place, but it can also be very scary and dangerous, especially for children, but really, nobody is safe! Catfishing, cyberstalking, online bullying... who ever thought such an amazing invention could be so sinister? We aren't exactly surprised, but still... This week, we're taking a look at victims who died after meeting their online predators. Be that sex workers with an ulterior motive, old men posing as hot young guy, or even dates gone horribly wrong. There's sadly no lack of cases in this bunch, and no lack of crazy tales of people posing as the literal opposite of who they really are, with devastating results.Brought to you by Podmoth!www.patreon.com/twistedlistersinstagram.com/twistedlistersCases Covered:1. In Season 3 Episode 29 the girls speak about Murders with Weird Backstories. Holly kicks things off with the bizarre tale of Sharon Lopatka before Gemma chats through the case of Hiroshi Maeue who had a very specific victim group. Holly once again forgets to push the button, she then suggests you un-ring your necrophilia bell, Producer Craig is on fire with sass, Gemma’s murderer is very strangley and Google argues with Gemma’s science. Production, recording and post production completed by Producer Craig who is setting up a remote electrocution button for Holly to train her to hit the record button. Low voltage of course. Well, relatively low. Gemma edited this week. All complaints should be sent directly to Producer Craig who is somewhere in the Scottish central belt running wires in order to enact his final option to make Holly do the basic tasks required to make a podcast. www.whichmurderer.com WARNING - Explicit language, content and themes (plus whatever else will cover us legally). This week’s episode covers a particularly dark topic in contemporary Japan, the case of serial killer Hiroshi Maeue. Driven by his uncontrollable desire to fulfill his lustful murderous fantasies, Maeue would seek out the depressed and suicidal online making them his prey. He would spend months grooming his victims online, convincing them to join in suicide pacts, though his true intention was only murder. After his kills he would return home only to begin grooming his next victim, a process he would repeat again and again. This episode contains themes of suicide, and we felt the responsible thing to do would be to include links to positive mental health resources. In Japan, Tell Lifelink provides free telephone counselling everyday. http://telljp.com/lifeline/ International by country http://www.suicide.org/international-suicide-hotlines.html We know we have listeners all over, the world so If you do want help it’s out there and there is no shame in reaching out.
