“Dry January” is upon us—the annual reset when people swear off alcohol for a month, whether for health, discipline, curiosity, or recovery. While some are opting to detox from alcohol during the month of January, something bigger is happening beneath the surface: an entire generation is quietly walking away from alcohol altogether. A 2025 Gallup poll found that only 50% of young adults ages 18-34, reported they drink—down from 72% two decades prior. And yet, alcohol still sits at the center of modern social life—networking events, happy hours, girls' nights out, and dating culture. If you don't drink, you're expected to explain yourself. In a culture that normalizes constant consumption, slipping into sipping habitually can be like a frog in slowly boiling water; you don't notice the danger until alcohol starts stealing your clarity, your relationships, your peace, and eventually your purpose. This week's Problematic Women, Ericka Andersen, knows this song and dance all too well. She joins this week's episode to make the case for sobriety in a culture so hellbent against it. Andersen, the author of “Freely Sober: Rethinking Alcohol Through the Lens of Faith,” shares the story of her personal relationship with alcohol and how she leaned not only on facts, but also on her faith, to find her way out. We also break down the latest trends and statistics on alcohol consumption and what that says about the state of our culture. Virginia's new Governor, Abigail Spanberger, openly admitted it's good for the state to participate in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, not to protect the climate and environment, but rather because it's a great “cash grab.” Bonner Cohen, Ph.D., a senior fellow at the National Center for Public Policy Research, explains how Virginia's participation in RGGI will raise energy costs, hurt low- and middle-income residents, and drive businesses out of the state, when he joined Joe Thomas, The Daily Signal's Virginia correspondent, on his podcast today. “It's not about saving the planet, and we have to be very careful about what we mean when we say it makes money for Virginia. Actually, it's ultimately going to cost Virginia rate payers who, as a result of RGGI, as well as a result of other energy policies she's imposing as well as taxes she plans to raise, these people are going to see their disposable incomes reduced and you have to ask the question: to what end?” Follow us on Instagram for EXCLUSIVE bonus content and the chance to be featured in our episodes: https://www.instagram.com/problematicwomen/ Connect with our hosts on socials! Virginia is facing a push to hold a special vote, likely in mid-April, to overturn a 65%-approved nonpartisan redistricting commission. Joe Thomas, The Daily Signal's Virginia correspondent, breaks down the proposed change that would allow the state to redraw districts reactively if other states change theirs. “ North Carolina, and even New York state is talking about redistricting their congressional districts ahead of the midterms. Now, unlike all those other states, Virginia had a constitutional amendment that said you can't do it.” Follow us on Instagram for EXCLUSIVE bonus content and the chance to be featured in our episodes: https://www.instagram.com/problematicwomen/ Connect with our hosts on socials! A pro-life policy organization is calling on President Donald Trump to do more to protect the unborn. While Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the large policy organization Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, says no president has done more for the pro-life movement than Trump, she argues the president has not championed the issue as he did during his first term. Trump, however, might not be the only conservative who appears less inclined to discuss or take action on the pro-life cause following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Have conservative moved on from the issue? Dannenfelser joins the “Problematic Women” podcast to discuss. Also on the show, Dannenfelser explains why the abortion pill is the biggest issue facing the fight for life in 2026. Plus, the Department of Health and Human Services received criticism after releasing millions in funding to Planned Parenthood. But did they have a choice? All this and more on this week's edition of “Problematic Women.” Enjoy the show! It took less than 48 hours for protesters to begin burning the city of Minneapolis after the death of George Floyd in May 2020. Law enforcement struggled to control protests as demonstrators set a local police station on fire, looted businesses, and left parts of the city covered in graffiti. Five and a half years later, Americans wonder if history will repeat itself after an ICE agent shot and killed Renee Nicole Good on Wednesday. Good, a 37-year-old woman, was an “immigration activist,” according to Fox News, and allegedly was at the scene of ICE operations in Minneapolis on Wednesday in an effort to disrupt ICE activity. When Good was ordered out of her vehicle, a video appears to show Good driving her vehicle toward an ICE agent, who discharged his weapon into Good's car, killing her. Protests broke out almost immediately in Minneapolis following the news of Good's death, but, at least so far, demonstrations have been far from reaching the level of violence and destruction seen in the aftermath of Floyd's death. The same Democrat mayor, Jacob Frey, is in power in Minneapolis, and law enforcement were involved in Floyd's death as they were in Good's. So what is different now? On this week's edition of “Problematic Women,” Daily Caller reporter Ashley Brasfield joins the show as we discuss the events that led to the ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis and why protests have not escalated to the level of violence seen in 2020. The world changed forever in 2025. President Donald Trump returned to the White House and immediately began implementing his “America First” agenda, including closing the southern border and removing woke policies from every corner of the government. On the international stage, Trump took an active role in ending multiple wars and conflicts, including bombing three key Iranian nuclear sites, significantly degrading Iran's threat to Israel and the world. On this week's edition of “Problematic Women,” we ring in the New Year reflecting on the biggest wins of 2025 and eat some humble pie as we expose our biggest personal failures from last year.
