In October 2000, the small Hunter Valley town of Aberdeen, New South Wales, became the scene of one of the most horrific crimes in Australian history. John Price was brutally murdered in his home by his partner, Katherine Knight, an abattoir worker with a long, history of domestic violence against the men in her life but with no criminal record to show for this. What police discovered inside the house shocked even the most seasoned investigators: Knight had skinned, decapitated, and cooked parts of her partner, creating a horrific crime scene that remains etched in true crime history. Katherine Knight was the first, and to this day only, woman in Australian history to be sentenced to life imprisonment without parole. In 1993 in Woronora, Australia, Stephen and Helen Gilham were stabbed to death, their house was set on fire and their son Christopher was found dead downstairs from multiple stab wounds. Older son, Jeffrey Gilham, claimed he had been sleeping in a boatshed in the back yard before rushing to the house after hearing screams, telling police his brother Christopher confessed to killing their parents before setting their mother's body on fire. Jeffrey admitted stabbing his brother in a rage and initially pleaded guilty to manslaughter, however, after a few plot twists, prosecutors eventually charged Jeffrey with the murder of his parents as well. Who would try to hire a hitman to kill an innocent young girl? In early 2021, Riley ended a relationship with a man she had been in a year-long online relationship with after she alleges he assaulted her. Despite the breakup, he continued to message her relentlessly. Instead of backing down, Scott escalated his feelings of anger, turning to the dark web. He paid $19,000 AUD to hire a hitman to kill her. The reality of the plot became clear when police knocked on the door of Riley’s family home. It was her mother, Jamie Elder, who answered, learning that someone had tried to arrange her daughter’s murder. On March 17, 2015, 17-year-old Masa Vukotic left her Doncaster home for an evening walk through her local park, a routine she had followed countless times. That night, her boyfriend, Timothy Draper, did not receive a goodnight text from Masa. By morning, police were at his door with devastating news: Masa had been brutally stabbed 49 times in Koonung Creek Linear Reserve, her screams having been heard by neighbours who called emergency services. Eric Edgar Cooke, nicknamed the Night Caller and the Nedlands Monster, was a serial killer who terrorized Perth, Australia from 1958 to 1963. He was incredibly hard to catch, because his MO was to not have an MO. Sometimes he ran over women in a stolen car. Sometimes he shot women. Sometimes he shot men. Sometimes his crimes were sexually motivated, other times purely opportunistic. He attacked one victim with an axe, another with a knife. He strangled one victim, punched others, and once even knocked on someone's door and when they answered he shot them in the forehead.
