With President Trump now facing an impeachment inquiry over his request that the president of Ukraine investigate his political foe, Joe Biden, White House staff now face a decision: Cooperate with Democrats or risk legal jeopardy themselves, says Justin Rood, director of the Congressional Oversight Initiative at the Project on Government Oversight. Still, it's not clear if a still-divided Democratic caucus in the House will have the votes to impeach, should it come to that, says Lindsey McPherson, CQ Roll Call's House reporter. On February 6, 2019, the Federalist Society's Article I Initiative and the Georgetown Student Chapter co-sponsored the first Legislative Branch Review Conference. The third panel discussed "Bipartisanship and High Profile Congressional Oversight."At the outset, the 116th Congress promises many high profile and impactful investigations. However, the last several Congresses have not always maintained a civil, united, and fact-based oversight approach devoted to bipartisan purposes. Is there room for renewal? How can Congress do better? Featuring:Ms. Elise Bean, Washington Co-Director, Levin Center at Wayne LawMr. Stanley M. Democrats have ramped up oversight of President Donald Trump and his administration with hearings on Trump's finances, the Russia inquiry, the immigrant child separation policy and more. But holding hearings and asking questions is only the first step in successful oversight, says Justin Rood, director of the Congressional Oversight Initiative at the Project on Government Oversight and a former staff investigator for Oklahoma GOP Sen. Tom Coburn. Congressional overseers must then grapple with their targets to make sure they cooperate, or cultivate whistleblowers who will provide information outside the standard channels. Oversight of federal agencies and programs is embedded in the law and culture of Washington. But oversight is challenging and becoming more so as political divides widen. For what might help order and bipartisanship for oversight, Justin Rood, director of the congressional oversight initiative at the Project on Government Oversight joined Federal Drive with Tom Temin on Federal News Network.
On Saturday, May 3, history will be made yet again in the U Street neighborhood of Washington DC. A one-of-a kind participatory parade and music festival is descending on the funkiest part of our Nation's Capital, and we have local-boy-made-good Justin Rood to thank for it. Three dozen musical acts will fill eleven free performance areas during the day, leading up to a parade down V Street from 5-7 PM, and from 7 until late into the night, local music venues like U Street Music Hall, Tropicalia, DC9, Twins Jazz Club and Patty Boom Boom will offer free performances. maDCap took a drive with Justin Rood and heard all about the Funk Parade while driving along Saturday's route. Then, maDCap took Asheville, North Carolina by storm for the 2014 edition of Moogfest. We recorded interviews with @YACHT, The Egyptian Lover, @ZedsDead, Adeline Michèle of @Escort-Records and @Dan-Deacon. In this review show you'll hear about our exploits in Asheville and clips from the interviews we recorded. http://FunkParade.com http://twitter.com/madcapdc http://fb.com/thefunkparade -- http://moogfest.com http://twitter.com/moogfest http://fb.com/moogfest -- http://madcapdc.org http://twitter.com/madcapdc http://fb.com/madcapdc
