There are few people who don’t have some form of self-sabotaging behaviour these days. Be it excessive social media checking, overeating, working in overdrive mode, smoking, drugs, alcohol – even simply not leaving enough time to get ready so that every morning we rush ourselves and the kids out the door. Anything that leaves us feeling less than amazing within ourselves is having a detrimental effect to our well-being on some level or another. Even if we know this, which in most cases we do, why do we stay in this seemingly perpetual cycle of self-sabotage? And if we do manage to break the cycle for even one day, how do we make lasting shifts in our behaviour? Lucy Dahill and Katie Walls explore what’s behind this set-up and provide tips on how to break away from it once and for all.
WSB TV morning meteorologist Karen Minton has decided to turn off her alarm clock. She is retiring after 33 years on the station. Back in the day, the team of weather forecasters consisted of Karen and chief meteorologist Glenn Burns. She was on mornings and noon. Glenn did weather at 6pm and 11pm. Now with the demand for news on our schedule, the team has expanded to include Brad Nitz, Katie Walls, Brian Monahan and Eboni Deon. Brian will succeed Karen mornings. He previously worked mornings at the Cox Media Group station in Seattle. Karen sits down and shares stories you may not know. For example she began her career as an executive with Dairy Queen - yes the burger people. We talk about that midnight alarm that will no longer ring and how she may pick up her tennis racket again.
Katie Walls and Donna Gianniotis share with Lucy Dahill the details of their one day Breast Cancer Care Retreat through Esoteric Women's Health offering a fresh way to approach breast cancer care. We talk about sympathy, not avoiding conversations, who we ask for support and how to self-care...Is it time for a re-assessment of what we have taken as loving care?
Food as medicine - what does your body actually need? There are many opinions about what constitutes a good diet. There are also new superfoods on the market just about every other week. This can be confusing (and expensive!) for the health conscious person who simply wants to feel healthy and vital. In Episode 7, Lucy Dahill joins Katie Walls to explore how to eat in a way that supports your body and overall well-being throughout the day (without the magical cures or fad diets!). They'll also bust a few foodie myths and look at the difference between medicating with food vs living as if food is thy medicine.
Namoi Dougall, Davidson Electorate's 2017 Local Woman of the Year, she spoke about her work with KYDS Youth Development Service and the work the small but dedicated team do for the mental health of the young people in our community. Katie Walls from Gentle Rhythms shared how far down the list of priorities we place ourselves as women and how detrimental that is to the relationships we are actually putting higher up the list of priorities! There is no escaping Katie’s simple logic that has the potential to change the trajectory for our ongoing health. All of this plus a preview of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai International Women's Day event 2017
