Marty was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. His recently released book, “My Brooklyn, My Way From Brownsville to Canarsie in the 1950's” chronicles his childhood through a series of short stories and poems. In today's episode, Marty will share some of his most cherished recollections about his early years, including stories about his family, friends, neighbors, local shops, vacations in the Catskills and summertime fun. Marty is a master storyteller who will transport you to a simpler time and place where people made the most of what little they had and found joy in relationships with each other. With enthusiasm and descriptive language, Marty will tell of the wonderful times he had, such as playing stick ball with old broom handles, hot summer days at Betsy Head Pool, trips to Coney Island and hanging around at the local candy stores. She is currently the Chair of the Department of Film and Media Studies at Hunter College. Kelly discusses UNSTUCK: An OCD Kids Movie, which she made with a fellow parent of a child with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Chris Baier. This documentary presents the experiences of youth with OCD and the skills and supports they develop. She explores the topics surrounding it--from the specific nature of OCD in youth, to parenting a child with this unique disability--and sheds inspiring light on the advocacy and support that both parents and youth alike have built through their experiences with OCD. My Brooklyn trip was exactly what I needed! Thanks in part to my musical brother Itch13 who let me play his radio show, "Bloom Bap"! I'm not known for downtempo/lofi/reggae/hiphop, but I'm finding a stronger desire to play them more. Bloom Bap was the first to give me that moment in NYC. This was also my first time playing with Serato, too! Here's my solo set. The entire show is SICK! I like the directions Itch takes with his musical mind. Bloom Bap streams LIVE every Tuesday from 2-4 PM EST at BBOXradio.com. Turn us on for the finest in beats, future funk, nu soul, forward thinking hip hop, quirky house, weird trvp shit, and more.
