We always talk about comic books getting turned into movies, but what happens when the traffic moves backward? In this special One Shot episode of Moving Panels, host Laramy Wells is joined by co-hosts Tim Williams, Nicholas Pepin, and Gerry D. to dive deep into the massive, chaotic, and awesome world of comic books directly inspired by cinema and television. From canonical continuation series that picked up where canceled TV shows left off to insane crossover events Hollywood could never afford, we break down how the comic medium expands our favorite screen universes. What we're unpacking tonight:The Official Continuations: Joss Whedon's massive, budget-free Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 and the incredible DC Universe expansions in Smallville Season 11 (including Clark becoming a Green Lantern and his tactical showdown with Batman!).The McClane Files: A deep dive into John McClane's comic history, featuring the prequel series Die Hard: Year One and Laramy's recent read, A Million Ways to Die Hard. The Slashers & Sci-Fi Icons: How Ash Williams (Army of Darkness/The Evil Dead) became a comic book staple, the iconic Dark Horse Alien vs. Predator runs, and the massive Ghostbusters and Star Trek comic universes. The 80s Cartoon Toy Box: The deep-cut lore of Transformers, G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K., Voltron, ThunderCats, Dino-Riders, Bravestarr, Visionaries, SilverHawks, and Inhumanoids.⚠️ ANNOUNCEMENT: We hit a bit of a snag behind the scenes tonight. At one point during the recording, Laramy suffered a massive computer glitch. We kept the tapes rolling anyway, and the guys carried the torch to the finish line. We're curious to see if the audience can actually catch exactly when Laramy is no longer a part of the episode! Terminal throws readers right into a chaotic, violent world. When you were building the first issue, how did you approach onboarding readers without giving too much away? The book opens with some striking and surreal imagery, especially the eye and the idea of Maculox. What was the origin of that concept, and how central is it to the larger mythology? There's a clear tension between evolution and destruction running through the story. How did you want to frame that conflict without falling into a simple good versus evil dynamic? The first issue makes some bold narrative choices in terms of expectations around who the story might follow. Without getting into spoilers, should readers expect that kind of unpredictability to be a core part of the series? Robert and Joe, how does your collaboration work on a project like this? Are you breaking story together, dividing scripts, or building off each other's strengths in a specific way? Andy, the character designs, especially on the more villainous side, feel really eclectic and distinct. What were your inspirations when developing the look of this world and its characters? There's a bit of a “hidden world” structure here, where a regular person is pulled into something much bigger. What drew you to that kind of setup, and how do you keep it feeling fresh? The series feels like it has big, long-term potential, but also a very focused central idea. Is the plan for Terminal to be a long-running series, or are you working toward a more defined endpoint? For all three of you, what was the moment in developing Terminal where you realized this was something special or different from other superhero books you've worked on or read?

Hip hop group Basic Vocab's trajectory shifted rapidly when their signature track, "Come Get With It," was discovered by HBO and featured during the closing credits of Season 5 of Entourage. In doing so, they joined artists such as Saigon, Gang Starr, Alice Smith, Outkast, Radiohead, and Jay-Z, whose music was also featured during the series' end credits. The track appeared on their debut album, The General Dynamic, featuring JL Sorell, MG, and Square, with production from Tony Galvin, whose work with artists including T.I., Mystikal, and Trick Daddy brought a classically trained sensibility to the group's sound. They followed with A Better Way (2010), a more energy-oriented record infused with b-boy influences. The album included tracks such as "Prescription," "Tears," "Keep It Simple"—later featured on HBO's Crashing—and "Just Dance," which appeared in Hulu's Random Tropical Paradise. Their next releases, Type 3 (2022) and Straight Kemistry (2022), reflected on the post-pandemic landscape, exploring subjects including politics, social media, and healthcare. In 2025, the group released their latest single, "Sign of the Times," and they continue to collaborate together. In our conversation, featuring JL and Square, we discussed the South Beach "conscious rap" scene; the artists who influenced them and those to whom they are most often compared; how their lives changed following Entourage; recent collaborations with Sadat X; composing for film and television; and maintaining originality, creativity, and consistency over time.Opening Credits: Genx Beats - 07 Already (Lofi Mix) I CC BY 3.0 I Black Ant - Dark Slide I CC BY-NC-SA. The Ultimate Sci-Fi and Nostalgia Showdown: Reboots, Toys, and Tech Turmoil Ever wondered how our favorite childhood franchises are making a comeback, or how the tech industry's hidden drama affects what we buy? If you’re a sci-fi fanatic, toy collector, or tech geek, this post is your guide to the latest in fandom, nostalgia, and industry secrets. From the hype around Thundercats reboots to the fascinating conspiracy behind computer RAM shortages, we’ll cover it all — and share actionable insights to stay ahead of the curve.Get ready to discover how animation is dominating with quality storytelling, why blockbuster sequels are crushing records, and what the mysterious RAM shortage might mean for your next upgrade. Whether you’re here for the nostalgia trip or to understand the tech chaos, this comprehensive breakdown will keep you informed and entertained. Nostalgia Reboot Madness: Thundercats, Toy Story, and the Power of Reimagining Classics The nostalgia wave is crashing hard on modern media, bringing beloved 80s cartoons and movies back into the spotlight. But careful—if not done right, these reboots can go south fast. Fortunately, recent discussions from passionate fans reveal both the excitement and the caution needed when revisiting old favorites.Thundercats Returns: Nostalgia Meets Animation InnovationFans of Thundercats are buzzing as talk of a reimagined reboot surfaces. The plan? A full-length animated movie that honors the 80s original while incorporating modern storytelling. This shift to animation — moving away from live-action pitfalls — seems to be the right move, especially following successful revivals like Masters of the Universe. The idea is to bring back the essence of the classic but with a fresh, mature storyline that appeals to both nostalgic adults and new viewers. What makes this promising? The focus on quality animation and storytelling, similar to Young Justice, which has been praised for its deep character development and compelling plots. Fans are hopeful that this approach will capture the essence of the original, avoiding the pitfalls of poorly executed live-action adaptations.Toy Story 5: An Unstoppable FranchiseOn the film front, Toy Story continues its record-breaking streak. The latest installment surpassed expectations, pulling in over $160 million domestically in its opening. Fans rank it as the second-best in the series, with some suggesting the franchise is still strong despite past criticisms of the fourth film. Key tip: When animation and story are combined with heartfelt moments, even a franchise approaching its fifth film can feel fresh and relevant. If you haven’t caught Toy Story 5, it’s worth a trip to the theater — and a reminder that staying true to the original formula pays off.The Power of Quality Animation in RebootsWhether it’s Thundercats or Toy Story, the common thread is stunning animation paired with engaging storytelling. The success of series like Batman Nightfall or Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends demonstrates that fans crave nostalgic characters but with modern visuals and mature narratives. Animation is not just a medium; it's the key to longevity in the superhero and sci-fi universe. Special Guest Insights: Why Animation Dominates Modern Sci-Fi and Superhero Content In lively discussions, experts emphasize that animation allows for creative freedom and detailed character design, which live-action sometimes struggles to match. Shows like Teen Titans Go and Young Justice illustrate the appeal of animated series—they are versatile, visually stunning, and can adapt complex stories for all ages. Pro tip: For die-hard fans, investing in animated reboots or series is a safe bet for quality content. Plus, these series often serve as a testing ground for future live-action adaptations, ensuring the core essence remains intact. Tech Industry Secrets: The Hidden Drama Behind RAM Shortages and Price Hikes Switching gears, recent conversations unveil a less-known but significant industry story: the mysterious RAM shortage. This isn't just about supply chain hiccups; it's about a possible conspiracy involving major RAM manufacturers. The RAM Saga: Old Scandal, New CrisisHistorically, giants like Samsung, Hynix, and Micron have played hardball in the RAM market. Back in 2002, these companies pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges, allegedly manipulating production to inflate prices. Fast forward to today, and a new class-action lawsuit claims they're doing the same, with shortages blamed on high demand from AI centers — but the truth might be more sinister. Why does this matter? Higher RAM prices mean more expensive computers, gaming consoles, and tech upgrades for consumers. The scarcity also hints at deliberate manipulation, akin to a historical scandal replayed for modern earnings.Impact on Consumers and IndustryThe scarcity affects hardware prices for gamers and professionals alike. Expect to see increased costs for PCs, consoles, and even smartphones. Critics argue this is a smokescreen to inflate profits under the guise of AI-driven demand—a classic case of industry insider games that secretly raise costs for the end user. Actionable advice: Stay informed about industry lawsuits and conspiracy theories. Recognize that tech prices might not always align with supply and demand but could be strategic moves by monopolistic players. The Power of Animation and Industry Trends: What's Next? Looking ahead, animation will continue to dominate storytelling for superheroes and sci-fi, especially with high-quality productions like Batman Nightfall. The upcoming trilogy promises dark, immersive, and visually stunning narratives that rival blockbuster films.Meanwhile, the industry's behind-the-scenes drama over hardware supply chains could lead to further shortages and price hikes, changing how and when we upgrade our devices. As a consumer, staying updated helps you make smarter purchases and avoid inflated bills. Next actionable step : Keep an eye on upcoming release dates, industry lawsuits, and animation projects. They are indicators of where entertainment and technology are headed. Final Takeaways: Staying Ahead in a World of Nostalgia and Industry Secrets Nostalgia is powerful: Reboots like Thundercats and Toy Story prove quality animation and storytelling remain king. Animation is the future: It's the best vehicle for bringing classic characters to life in a modern, engaging way. Industry secrets matter: Hidden lawsuits and conspiracy claims about RAM shortages could influence hardware prices and availability for years to come. Be informed and proactive: Follow industry news, support quality series, and consider investing in animation or digital content—both are booming. Want to get ahead? Subscribe to updates on upcoming animation projects and tech industry revelations—your future self will thank you. FAQ Section: Deep Dives into Your Favorite Topics Is the Thundercats reboot official yet? While official details are still emerging, plans mention a full-length animated movie that respects the original 80s design while modernizing the story. Why is the Toy Story 5 box office so successful? It's a mix of nostalgic appeal, high-quality animation, and emotional storytelling that resonates across generations, keeping the franchise relevant. What's really behind the RAM shortage?Evidence suggests major companies may have colluded in the past to manipulate RAM prices, and current shortages could be a strategic move to inflate profits—possibly leading to another industry scandal. Will animation always outperform live-action for superhero stories?Policymakers and fans alike argue that animation offers more creative freedom, cost-effectiveness, and visual richness, making it the preferred medium for many future projects. How can I stay updated on industry conspiracies and entertainment releases?Follow trusted podcast sources, industry watchdogs, and official announcements. Being informed gives you a leg up on price hikes and content quality. SummaryIn a world where nostalgia and industry secrets collide, staying informed and appreciating quality animation can keep you ahead of the curve. This is the way.
Opening Line“Your Nerd Side is going full nostalgia this week — He-Man is back, She-Ra could be next, Supergirl is getting ready to fly, Spider-Noir is bringing Nicolas Cage into live-action Marvel weirdness, The Boys wrapped its final season, Star Wars is going tactical, Indiana Jones is returning to comics, Wolverine is slicing into PlayStation, and we're giving a shoutout to a voice actor gamers know well: Chris Murphy.”1. Masters of the Universe / He-ManThe new live-action Masters of the Universe movie is bringing back He-Man for a new generation. The cast includes Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress, and Kristen Wiig as Roboto. Host angle:This is not just another reboot — this is Hollywood testing whether the big 1980s toy-cartoon universe can work again as a modern fantasy franchise.Quick line:“He-Man is back, Skeletor is back, and Hollywood is once again asking: can the power of Grayskull power a whole new movie universe?”2. She-Ra AngleEven if She-Ra is not the main focus yet, this is the natural fan question: if He-Man works, does She-Ra come next?Host angle:She-Ra may be the smartest expansion point because she has both 1980s nostalgia and a newer fanbase from the Netflix animated version.Quick line:“If Masters of the Universe hits, don't be shocked if fans immediately start chanting for She-Ra — because that may be the real franchise test.”3. Chris Murphy — Voice Actor SegmentChris Murphy is an American voice actor, writer, and producer. For gamers, he is best known as the voice of Murray in the Sly Cooper video game series. Behind The Voice Actors also lists him as Murray, and Streamily promotes him as “the voice of the amazing Murray from Sly Cooper.” Important clarification:This is not Senator Chris Murphy. This is Chris Murphy the voice actor, connected to PlayStation-era gaming nostalgia.Host angle:Murray was the big-hearted, funny muscle of the Sly Cooper crew. Chris Murphy helped make that character memorable for a whole generation of PlayStation fans.Quick line:“And a quick shoutout for gamers: Chris Murphy, the voice of Murray from Sly Cooper, is one of those actors whose voice lives rent-free in the heads of PlayStation kids everywhere.”4. SupergirlSupergirl is heading toward its June 26, 2026 theatrical release, with Milly Alcock starring as Kara Zor-El. The movie is inspired by the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic, and recent coverage says the final trailer is pushing big space adventure, action, and Krypto energy. Host angle:This is DC trying to prove the new universe is bigger than just Superman and Batman.Quick line:“Supergirl is not just Superman's cousin anymore — DC is putting her front and center, and the question is whether fans are ready for Kara to carry the cape.”5. Spider-NoirSpider-Noir stars Nicolas Cage in a live-action noir-style Spider-Man story. Reuters reported that the series blends superhero storytelling with classic film noir and can be watched in black-and-white or color. Host angle:This is one of the strangest and coolest Marvel-adjacent projects because it is not trying to look like every other superhero show.Quick line:“Nicolas Cage as a 1930s noir Spider-Man? That is either crazy or brilliant — and honestly, with Cage, it might be both.”

Episode 104: Kamasi Washington Kamasi Washington is one of the most important voices in modern jazz. A saxophonist, composer, and bandleader from Los Angeles, he has helped shape the sound of contemporary music through his solo work and collaborations with artists like Kendrick Lamar, Thundercat, Dinner Party, Flying Lotus, Andre 3000, Terrace Martin, and Robert Glasper. In this episode of Go With Elmo, Kamasi sits down for a deep conversation about his journey, from growing up in Los Angeles with the greatest young talents all around him to becoming a central figure in a global movement of jazz, hip-hop, and beyond. The LA music scene, the importance of community, and the foundation of the West Coast Get Down collective all come into focus. Kamasi breaks down the West Coast Get Down and the musicians involved, including Thundercat, Ronald Bruner Jr., Cameron Graves, Brandon Coleman, Ryan Porter, Patrice Quinn, Miles Mosley, and Tony Austin, and how that group helped define a new sound coming out of Los Angeles. Kamasi explains why he often performs with multiple drummers and multiple bassists, how he builds such powerful live ensembles, and what it takes to lead large groups of musicians on stage and in the studio. The conversation dives into Kamasi's work on Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly, the creative energy of those sessions, how he got the call for the Kendrick gig from Terrace, and their continued connection over time. More recent collaborations like “Luther” and “TV Off” are discussed, along with Kendrick referencing him by name in the lyric “keep a horn on me, that Kamasi,” a moment that reflects his influence across genres. Making his landmark albums The Epic, Heaven and Earth, and Harmony of Difference are explored, along with his approach to jazz saxophone, composition, improvisation, and bandleading. His broader work as a composer, including Becoming and Lazarus, adds to the scope of his career and creative output. The conversation goes deep into music philosophy, creativity, and meaning, including Kamasi's belief that music is bigger than genre and can communicate ideas beyond words. Fatherhood, inspiration, and the evolution of his perspective all play a role in shaping his current work. This is a wide-ranging talk about music, culture, leadership, and the journey of becoming one of the defining artists of this generation. It's Friday and the Big Shot Bob crew is back with Episode 131 of Shoot Around — the weekly bonus show where Robert Horry, Rob Jenners, and B-Dog Brandon Harper dig into the questions YOU send in and whatever's on their minds. This week kicks off with a debate born from the new Michael Jackson biopic hitting theaters: Start, Bench, Cut — MJ era edition. The Thriller era (1982–85), the Bad era (1987–89), and the Dangerous era (1991–94) are all on the table. Which era do you start? Which do you bench? Which do you cut? The guys break down their picks, argue over the greatest MJ music videos of all time (Smooth Criminal vs. Remember the Time), debate whether Chris Tucker was actually IN Smooth Criminal (he wasn't), and Harper goes deep on the Ghost mini-movie that almost nobody's seen. The verdict? Unanimous love for Thriller, but serious disagreement on whether Bad or Dangerous gets the bench. Then the guys jump into the all-time greatest NBA coaches debate, sparked by Pat Riley making it clear at 81 years old that he has zero plans to retire or step aside. Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, Gregg Popovich, Don Nelson, Lenny Wilkins, Red Auerbach — who makes the cut? Robert Horry gives a unique firsthand perspective on Phil Jackson, including the detail that Phil literally never spoke to him during their championship runs together. There's also the Del Harris comparison — same roster, completely different results — and what that says about coaching being as much about managing personalities as drawing up plays. A Reddit user's anti-tanking beer pricing proposal gets a quick airing, and then the crew weighs in on Diego Pavia going undrafted after representing himself at the NFL Draft — no agent, no deal. Robert Horry reflects on firing his own agent in 2001 and what he missed out on off the court despite winning six championships, and the guys debate whether being your own representative ever actually works when you're already fighting an uphill battle. To close things out, a fan question about the best superhero shows ever made opens up a great conversation about Invincible (currently must-watch TV), The Boys, Smallville, The Flash, Dragon Ball Z, the upcoming Mortal Kombat film, and a He-Man movie trip that Robert Horry is already planning with his son. Plus — the case for a live-action Thundercats reboot that the world is clearly not ready for.
