He started out playing sessions for King Records in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio, then kickstarted his career with James Brown's backup band, The J.B.'s. He was credited as a songwriter on classic J.B.'s songs such as “The Grunt” and “These Are the J.B.'s.” In 1972, he joined George Clinton's Parliament-Funkadelic, and is a co-writer of classics such as “Up for the Down Stroke,” “Chocolate City,” “P-Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up),” “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker),” “Mothership Connection,” “Dr. Funkenstein,” and “Flash Light.” In 1976, Bootsy's Rubber Band captivated audiences with his flashy star-shaped glasses and bass, and hits such as “I'd Rather Be With You” and the chart-topping “Bootzilla.” Since then, Bootsy has launched Bootzilla Productions and Funk University to help mentor younger creatives to reach their full potential. His inescapable influence on pop culture can be heard in the music of Snoop Dogg, Outkast, Dr. Dre, Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rick James, Prince, Daft Punk, Primus, Thundercat, and in Childish Gambino's Grammy-winning platinum hit “Redbone,” which paid homage to “I'd Rather Be With You.” Bootsy is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame. What's up, dudes? Thunder! Thunder! Thunder! ThunderCats Christmas! Hoooooo!!!! Nicholas Pepin of Pop Culture Roulette and Laramy Wells from Moving Panels join me to talk about the humanoid feline aliens! In the issue #41 story ‘Footprints' from 1987, Cat's Lair is directly in the path of a creature called the Metokangmi! King Hanuman of Hook Mountain warns the ThunderCats, describing the destruction and fear in the creature's wake. Every Rammastide (the Third Earth equivalent of Christmas which commemorates the first defeat of Mumm-Ra) the inhabitants live in fear. Fortunately, this year Cat's Lair reminds the Metokangmi of its lost mate, and it just builds a snowman.Subsequently, issue #89 sees WilyKit and WilyKat build a snowman in the shape of Lion-O. Of course, the Mutants decide to crash the ThunderCats' Rammastide festivities, knocking over the snowman. Luckily, the intruder alarm alerted the heroes who quickly hid as snow sculptures and overtake the foes. The heroes then invite them in to celebrate.Finally, in issue #128, Snarf is home alone preparing a feast on Rammas Eve, when a traveling salesman tries to cash in. The sidekick tries to haggle with him, making a huge mess. As the ThunderCats return, they invite Snarf and the salesman to the Tower of Omens for Rammastide.Fierce beasts? Yep. Crazy art? Uh huh. Poontang? Only if it's the name of the traveling salesman! Jordan A. Wilson, born in Cincinnati, OH, and raised in Carrollton, KY, is a dynamic artist blending nostalgic rhythms with fresh originality. A self-taught guitarist, he began playing at 14, performing solo, in church, and at talent shows. Over the years, Jordan became a key figure in the Cincinnati music scene, collaborating with artists like Joseph Nevels (now Los Angeles), Lauren Eylise, and as a member of KNOTTS, while also leading his own band, the Jordan Wilson Coalition.Base in Madison, IN, the Coalition fuses Blues, Alt-Rock, R&B, Soul, and Funk-what Jordan calls "Alt-Blues, Rock "N' Soul". The sound has been described as a blend of Bill Withers and Jimi Hendrix, sprinkled with some alt-rock seasoning. The band has been billed with Patti LaBelle, Erykah Badu, Thundercat, Eric Gales, Mr. Sipp and Ronnie Baker Brooks at venues like the Rose Center (Dayton), Heritage Bank Center, Megacorp Pavilion, Memorial Hall (Cincy) and more.
