Book 1. Organ House My first book. I was living in Indonesia between 2000 and 2003. I heard a story that a Chinese Indonesian couple had lost a child in China at some point and I found the story to be interesting. Not knowing if this was a true story or not I decided to believe it so I could take it to the next level. The story went as such. A couple had lost their son on the streets of some city in China. Years later a friend spotted the child on the street and recognized the son. Long story short, the child was alive but had his tongue cut out and a scar on his side. The child was abducted and had an organ removed and yet somehow was alive and on the street. Maybe he was to be cut up again before being killed. I do not know if the story were true but that is how Organ House was born. The book. I picture the setting of a large Manor and the story to be taking place in some Eastern European country or Britain. Either one would do. A large manor where the grounds are kept as neat and as clean as though they belonged to royalty. The idea of Harry Potter comes to mind. Where kids are eating in a large hall with uniforms in silence. Whenever visitors came, the kids would never dare to look up or look around. The idea was that outside and in certain areas inside the manor, the place is seemingly perfect. Yet behind closed doors and in private, the kids are treated in horrible and horrific ways. While I am very proud of my first book, admittedly it is odd. It has four chapters. More like a movie script with a beginning, middle and end. Hey, it was my first book, right? The title. Just as it implies Organ House is a place where children are catalogued and kept for waiting recipients. The slogan, "No child leaves alive." is also the mission statement for the facility. The idea of organ harvesting and children seems to fit very well for a twisted mind and a horror story. Oddly enough I am not a horror movie fan, nor am I one who has a twisted mind. Let's call it a creative process. Yes, that seems to work well. The back of the book. Sam is an ordinary 12- year-old boy, living an ordinary life until it comes to a screeching halt. Sam's immediate family dies in a terrible accident, and he is sent to an orphanage. He soon learns that in this orphanage no one ever gets adopted and no one ever leaves alive. He befriends Fred the gardener at the orphanage, learning the secrets of this strange new place. When one of Sam's friends goes missing, he decides to investigate. When further horrific events happen, Sam and his friends plot an escape. Soon Sam discovers that Fred's roots grow much deeper than being a gardener. When a couple comes to adopt a child, Sam sees that Fred suddenly changes. Within the confusion, Sam and his friends make plans to escape the hellhole they are in. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zsolt-zsemba/message
Part 14 When Covid hit, I was working from home. When the commute was cut down and we all went to Zoom meetings it gave me more time. I was able to focus even more on writing. This was a blessing in disguise. Though I would rather that Covid didn't happen it sure gave me a boost to start writing even more. Working at home became a great way to intensify my writing. I was able to focus more. No need to worry about going to the office. Put on your shorts and T-shirt and head to the laptop. The days began earlier than usual since all I had to do was go to the laptop and start. My routine was simple. Up at about 6 am. Eat breakfast, get ready and talk to family and friends, answer some emails and off I went. (This was the benefit of living in different time zones.) I had a local radio station, Female FM that I always had on since my beloved 97.3 Toronto station stopped transmitting to Indonesia one day. I am sure that my drive and obsession had some positive effects on my writing. I was showing up to work, it was my work and my passion to write. My storytelling was well on the way by 7:30 to 8:00 and this was my most productive time. I am always on my game between 7 to about 12. Those few hours are much like a sprint and after lunch is more of a jog. By the time my afternoon coffee rolls around at 2 pm, I was walking and I would usually stroll to the finish line by 3 pm. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09CGCZK4R/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i9 After that, I usually look over what I had managed to pound out on the keyboard and touch up things. However, if I felt good, I would stay and write until 5 to 6 pm. On days like those, I felt as if I was hit by a truck. I would be sore; my muscles would ache and need some severe stretching. After all this, I realized that getting the thoughts out of my head during the process was important. It allowed me to feel as if I had accomplished something. Organ House, Scars and Elax and the White Witch was a huge accomplishment. But what would come next would be terrifying... #writing #blogger #author #poetry #love #quotes #poetrycommunity #writersofinstagram #poem #writer #poet #life #instagram #lovequotes #poetsofinstagram #quoteoftheday #poems #quote #thoughts #writing #shayari #follow #inspirationalquotes #quotestagram #instagood #motivation #like #writersofig #loveyourself #poetrylovers #script --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zsolt-zsemba/message
How I became a writer. Part 6 All that said, I never set out to be a writer. I dabbled in writing a book many years ago. The book was more about life about people from Asia, in this case, Indonesia wanting to move to Canada or North America. The book was not very long. Whatever I had written was stolen by my ex-wife when she took off with my laptop. That was then and this is now. I had a script written for a book titled Organ House. Now in the process, I lose the script somewhere. I most likely saved it wrong or deleted it, but the book remained. This was my first book and admittedly it was a rather strange 3 chapter book. It is more of a movie script-style beginning, middle and end type of things that later I broke up to five chapters I believe. Not the norm but then who cares. It is what it is, it was my first shot at writing a real novel. It is also the shortest novel I have. This was due to the fact that I didn't write the book on the fly. It was all done from the beginning, middle and end in my head. I was impatient and just wanted to get it done and out of the way. This was a sprint and not a marathon and it showed. Everyone must start somewhere. This was my somewhere and I have never looked back. Organ House was one of many and when the lockdown happened this was my escape. At the beginning of the three novels, I mention the fact that these books were written during the lockdown. The lockdown itself and working from home gave me an opportunity to focus on writing. The interesting thing is that the writing began much farther back in time, back in 1998/1999 December/January in Bali. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zsolt-zsemba/message
