Looks like Daniel Craig might be swapping espionage for enchantment! The former James Bond has reportedly been offered a role in Greta Gerwig's The Chronicles of Narnia adaptation for Netflix. While Craig hasn't officially signed on, speculation is rife about whether he'll voice the mighty Aslan, play the wise Professor Kirke, or surprise us with another iconic role. Gerwig, fresh off her Barbie success, is helming two Narnia films, set to hit theaters in IMAX on Thanksgiving 2026 before streaming on Netflix at Christmas. Oh, and pop star Charli XCX is rumoured to be playing the White Witch!

80 episodes?? Already? And yet there's still so much to talk about. This week we talk about Mother Monster's new album Mayhem. I saw not 1 but 2 celebs at Disneyland when I went last week. Who were they?? Apparently people are over the "Hollywood Veneers". I saw a Tik Tok saying that Dua Lipa is not a pop star but an influencer. I have things to say about that. Millie Bobby Brown can't catch a break no matter what she does. She has thoughts about what journalists keep writing about her. She even goes as far to call them out by name. Steve Carell teamed up with a charity organization to help students of the LA wildfires get to prom. On the Kardashians Kendall has the nerve to get mad at her family for not messaging her directly about an event they were attending. Apparently she doesn't have the time to read group chats. I have thoughts about this as well. A cover of Joni Mitchell is going viral on Tik Tok, sang by none other than Amanda Seyfried. New Narnia movie is in the work with Greta Gerwig directing and supposedly Charli XCX is signed on to play the White Witch?? Chelsea Handler has scored her 6th #1 New York Times Best Selling book. The Black Eyed Peas are celebrating 30 years of making music. And last but certainly not least, Eternal Sunshine has had its first birthday and Miss Ariana has teased a deluxe album coming soon. Thanks for listening!

In this episode of the Fully-Booked podcast, hosts Meaghan and Arthur welcome listeners to the first episode for March, humorously recalling Arthur's previous oversight of selecting a monthly theme. They introduce March's new focus: villains in literature. This represents a fresh topic compared to their usual monthly themes, particularly diverging from their frequent discussions on science fiction. The hosts also humorously recount distractions from their cats during recording sessions, illustrating how their pets' mischief often interrupts their recording process.Current ReadsThe hosts share their current reading selections. Arthur is reading Transmutation Transience by Darkly Lem, a sci-fi space opera involving political intrigue and assassin thriller elements. Darkly Lem is revealed as a collective pseudonym for five different authors, which Arthur finds intriguing.Meaghan highlights several recent reads;Freda McFadden's thriller The Boyfriend: with its quick, engaging style. She also mentions finishing Sandra Trelekowska's The Ends of Things, appreciating its psychological, character-driven mystery reminiscent of shows like White Lotus. And finally Rachel Harrison's feminist-leaning horror novel So Thirsty, continuing Harrison's tradition of supernatural and feminist-themed narratives. Both hosts inform listeners that reviews for Transmutation Transience and The Ends of Things will soon be available on their website, in the books review section.Defining a Great VillainMeaghan and Arthur then transition into discussing what defines a memorable and impactful villain. They agree that relatability and clear motivations, even if morally questionable, are essential. Meaghan emphasizes the importance of villains whose actions, although extreme, remain understandable in terms of personal motives. Arthur adds that beyond relatability, effective villains require nuanced ideologies and a challenging presence for protagonists, ensuring they are neither easy to overcome nor forgettable. They discuss how overly simplistic, purely evil villains fail to leave lasting impressions. Villains who offer complexity, realism, and genuine emotions stand out and make readers think long after finishing the story. Meaghan suggests these types of villains are far more engaging because they often reflect or comment on realistic human experiences and moral complexities.Iconic Villains in LiteratureThe hosts share examples of memorable villains that encapsulate these qualities. Meaghan first mentions classic examples like Iago from Shakespeare's Othello, who is driven by envy and manipulates events tragically. Arthur cites Randall Flagg from Stephen King's works (The Stand and The Dark Tower series) as a representation of chaotic evil - a character embodying pure chaos, who is both captivating and memorable despite lacking relatability. They also mention Hannibal Lecter, who is frightening precisely because of his sophisticated intelligence and charm juxtaposed against his horrific acts, including cannibalism. Count Dracula is similarly highlighted as iconic, feared yet alluring, effectively symbolizing humanity's fear of the unknown.Meaghan recalls notable villains from children's literature, including Miss Trunchbull from Matilda and the White Witch from The Chronicles of Narnia. Although simpler than adult villains, these characters effectively communicate clear moral lessons to young readers, offering memorable examples of villainy through cruelty or manipulation.Nuanced Villains and Modern LiteratureThe hosts discuss how modern literature is shifting towards portraying villains with greater complexity and nuance, reflecting the complicated world readers now live in. Meaghan argues this change arises from the recognition that society is multifaceted, influenced by the widespread access to information and diverse perspectives. Readers no longer want simplistic moral distinctions but rather prefer villains who mirror the complexity of real life, including morally ambiguous decisions and behaviors. They note the rise of unreliable narrators complicates readers' perceptions of villains and protagonists alike. Megan cites Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl as a prime example of an unreliable narrator drastically affecting perceptions of villainy, where a mid-novel twist completely shifts the narrative understanding.Arthur further supports this idea by mentioning American Psycho, where protagonist Patrick Bateman's narrative unreliability leaves readers uncertain of their feelings towards the character. They agree that such characters engage readers by challenging them to think critically and question what defines true villainy.Wrapping up, Meaghan and Arthur express excitement for further exploration of villains throughout the month, promising future discussions on morally gray characters and various villain types. They conclude by inviting listeners to continue following their deep dive into literary villains and other book reviews on their website, FullyBooked.ca.

John Humphrey and Andrew Gordon from Cinepals journey into the magical world of Narnia with their reaction to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe (2005), directed by Andrew Adamson (Shrek, The Prince of Egypt). Based on C.S. Lewis' timeless novel, this beloved fantasy adventure brings to life iconic characters like Lucy Pevensie (Georgie Henley, The Sisterhood of Night), Edmund Pevensie (Skandar Keynes, Ferrari), Susan Pevensie (Anna Popplewell, Reign), and Peter Pevensie (William Moseley, The Royals). John and Andrew react to the film's most iconic scenes, including Lucy's first journey through the wardrobe, Mr. Tumnus meeting Lucy, the terrifying confrontation with the White Witch, Aslan's heartbreaking sacrifice at the Stone Table, and the epic final battle. He is confused for a second until Kat arrives with the good news.Jacob goes upstairs to shave, and Del tells Kat that he fits in Colton's clothes. They check on him, and Del gives Jacob his stuffed bear as they look at the glow-in-the-dark stars. The next day, Kat catches Alice looking at her phone, staring at a picture of Casey wearing the necklace with the engagement ring. Alice suspects they're a time traveler, but Kat thinks she's reaching. The family comes together to hatch a plan to explain Jacob's return. They go to the news, claiming a family found him, raised him, and revealed the truth on their deathbeds.Fast forward: Jacob is working the land like it's the 1800s and thriving. Kat and Elliot's relationship is stronger than ever, and she is publishing a new book that includes the chapter Susanna wrote, which was previously ripped out. Del receives a suspicious package in the mail. Inside is a note that reads, “Your lie is known.” Apparently, it's not the first one. That night, Kat pulls out one of her dad's old books. She accidentally spills wine on it, revealing a secret message: “No curses in the water. Believe in magic. Come to the pond.” She wonders if her dad left that message and if he knew about the pond. The next day, Alice returns from Minneapolis, where she's been with her dad. She's looking very fancy. She notices a sticker on her guitar, which belonged to Colton, that says “Coyles.” She realizes this was Thomas's last name. When they ask Del about it, she says that's what the pond used to be called.Kat has been missing the pond, Susanna, and maybe even Thomas. She and Alice visit the pond to reminisce. Kat speaks to the pond, telling Susanna about her chapter being published. Alice encourages her to go back. Kat hesitates but ultimately decides to try.She ends up back in the 1800s—womp, womp. She finds Elijah, who explains that Jacob had to jump because the British were after him for treason. Jumping was the safest choice. He warns her to leave because people still think she's the White Witch. Before leaving, she visits Susanna. Kat tells Susanna she misses her, but Susanna insists she stop coming back. Kat promises she will but asks Susanna to keep writing. On her way out, Susanna looks at the painting under her bed—the one titled My Katherine. At the pond, Thomas appears. Kat tells him it's over between them because she's moved on.Back in the present day, Jacob reflects on how his dad told him never to go to the pond. Kat confronts him about why he came. Jacob admits it's true, and while he's happy to be here, he feels like a coward and struggles to adapt to this time.At Elliot's housewarming party, Alice announces she wants to pursue PR instead of music. Del surprises Elliot by handing him a demo record from 1974 of Colton singing. As they listen, Alice notices someone running in the fields. We learn that Del and Sam have been secretly meeting in the barn.Kat confesses to Elliot that she time-traveled back to the 1800s one last time. Instead of responding, Elliot plays another track from the record. Kat doesn't recognize the song, but it seems to be about the pond. Suddenly, another voice begins to sing, and it sounds like Alice. Kat searches for her but finds she isn't home. Jacob, however, is, and he has another flashback of his dad telling him he loves him no matter what happens. The episode ends with Alice at the pond. She finds a sweater, calls her mom, and leaves a message, asking her to come to the pond because someone else is using it. As she speaks, someone runs up behind her and pushes her in.

Happy Spooky Wednesday! We're starting out this week with a listener request about a very interesting museum: The Iceland Phallological Museum. You read that right. It's a museum all about penises. One exhibit focuses on the “units” of different cryptids and folklore creatures. Now our question isn't, “Are these creatures real?” Our question has become, “Are these weenies real?” And Brittany talks about the supposedly most haunted home in Jamaica, The Rose Hall Great House. According to legend Annie Palmer, the "White Witch of Rose Hall", is said to haunt the grounds of the former sugar plantation. She murdered her husbands and tortured enslaved people. But how much of the Palmer legend is true?

Episode 147 of the podcast is the first in a two-part special focusing on C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia book series originally published between 1950 and 1956, where Chris and Alex look at a handful of screen adaptations that traverse the fantasy and animation intersection. For this first instalment, they compare the 1979 animated film The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe directed by Bill Melendez with the BBC serial of the same name from 1988, both of which adapted Lewis' first and perhaps best known Narnia novel. Joining them is special guest Terry Lindvall, who is the C.S. Lewis Endowed Chair in Communication and Christian Thought and Professor of Communication at Virginia Wesleyan College. He is a C.S. Lewis scholar and expert in American film and media, seeking to see how theological thought, Christian faith and tradition, and cinema can intersect. His recent book crosses squarely into animation, titled Animated Parables: A Pedagogy of Seven Deadly Sins and a Few Virtues (2022), and examines how short animated films teach us, directly and indirectly, about vice and virtue, connecting together a range of global cartoons to explore the animators' role in displaying the seven deadly sins. Listen as they discuss distinctions between the marvellous and the uncanny, and how fantasy shaped Lewis' life and works; his relationship with J.R.R. Tolkien and the influence of Christianity on his brand of fantasy; traditions of limited animation and the medium's potential status as one of ‘supposal'; shifting representations of the eponymous White Witch as both feared and fearful; and what Narnia has to say about the importance of letting children think. **Fantasy/Animation theme tune composed by Francisca Araujo** **As featured on Feedspot's 25 Best London Education Podcasts**

The first thing you'll see in my home when you enter is a framed portrait of Abraham Lincoln. Below the image of America's 16th president, a man who arguably refounded the United States and became one of its most consequential figures, is a list of his numerous failures. The guy posted a lot of L's. This list of Lincoln failures is pretty well known, so you might have seen this before. Here is the text I have framed in our doorway. “Lincoln”Lost job in 1832.Defeated for state legislature in 1832.Failed in business in 1833.Elected to state legislature in 1834.Sweetheart died in 1835.Had a nervous breakdown in 1836.Defeated for Speaker in 1838.Defeated for nomination for Congress in 1843.Elected to Congress in 1846.Lost renomination in 1848.Rejected for land officer in 1849.Defeated for U.S. Senate in 1854.Defeated for nomination for Vice President in 1856.Again defeated for U.S. Senate in 1858.Elected President in 1860.Geeky Stoics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. This piece always catches my eye, particularly in the morning when I'm having coffee and thinking about the day ahead. Today is no exception. Last night I lost my race for City Council in Manassas, Virginia. It was my first foray into politics, and I'd never run in this city before for anything. I've lived here about 10 years, whereas all my opponents pretty much grew up here or have lifelong roots in town. That counts for something when a small town of 45,000 people vote. In reality, only about 8,000 people vote in elections around here. It's kind of crazy. I'm not launching into some narrative in which I'm a Lincoln figure in the making. It's just that I've had a lot of strikeouts at the plate lately. Let me run through them. My career has been a pretty wild ride since 2015 when I started a semi-popular podcast called Beltway Banthas. It opened the door to me doing something almost no one gets to do, which is go on TV and talk politics on some of the biggest news networks in the country. From 2016 to 2022 I had a really active and exciting run as a political commentator. All of this led to me securing a book deal with Hachette Publishing for How The Force Can Fix The World, another rare professional notch on the belt that not many people get to experience. It's special, and that's not lost on me. Especially when there are so many better writers out there. At the same time, I was selected to host a political talk show for an international news network. Here's the thing though. By objective measures, in every single one of these ventures, I “failed”. As a podcaster, Banthas never generated revenues. As a commentator, I secured no contributor contracts or invites to the “major leagues” for top shows in the world in the mainstream or alternative media. My debut book had a niche audience but was not a best seller on any list of “importance” in the publishing world. My talk show was canceled after one year. We couldn't find an audience for it. After that, I entered a professional wilderness for almost 2 years. Luckily, a friend offered me a job right when I needed it, but it was a job I ended up being very bad at. As I started looking around for a better fit and interviewing, I felt untouchable. I couldn't secure a job after all of this. No one wanted to hire me. I landed on my feet in the end at a really great nonprofit, one where I still work. That was by virtue of managing my relationships and having a good reputation for hard work and honesty. But it was a really hard road. Then this year I finally ran for office, a dream of mine since I was a kid, and I lost. Not only did I lose, I was the lowest vote-getter in the city. Deep sigh. NEW VIDEO FROM GEEKY STOICSWhat I told my wife last night when the results came in was that it's not that I feel like some kind of loser who never has any wins. No, it's not that. Because in many ways I keep making it to Championship matches (big opportunities), and then striking out when I step up to the plate. I think that people go on these journeys in life where they think they've found “the thing” they were called to do and it turns out to have been a mirage. I imagine it like a long hallway of locked doors. You have the keyring in your hand and a hundred keys on it. You fumble around to find the right key for the right door, you open it, and then it's just a wall behind the door. That wasn't the door for you. I think I'm just good at feeling around for certain keys to certain doors.Part of this thought reminds me of one of Geeky Stoics' central pillars, the life and ideas of C.S. Lewis. As you know, Lewis is famous, immortal really, because of The Chronicles of Narnia. The first book was published in 1950, at a time when Lewis was almost completely drained of his self-confidence and hope. Lewis had become an international superstar in the 1940s for his wartime radio broadcasts on the BBC and Mere Christianity, his most cherished nonfiction work making the case for Christian morality. Then there was The Screwtape Letters, making him even more of a star and the voice of Christian apologetics. Yet, when he was invited onto the BBC in 1950 to discuss faith, Lewis declined saying, “Like the old fangless snake in The Jungle Book, I've largely lost my dialectal power.”Lewis had become a symbol of Christian thought and argumentation but had “failed” to convert his own friends and family. In fact, the woman in his life (Mrs. Moore) only grew more hostile to faith over time. He felt powerless in his own sphere of influence. Just a year before declining the BBC, Lewis participated in a Socratic debate at Oxford against a young woman named Elizabeth Anscombe about “naturalism” and Christian belief. Anscombe was a Catholic and fan of Lewis, but she disagreed strongly with some of Lewis' cherished conclusions in his book, Miracles. Long story short, Anscombe defeated and embarrassed Lewis in his own dojo during that debate in 1948. In front of his colleagues, fans, critics, and students, Lewis was dismantled. But it wasn't just Lewis, it was the premise of one of his great books.Like a good man with an open mind, Lewis knew he lost and he knew then that Miracles was deeply flawed. For a man like Lewis, it's the kind of thing that keeps you up at night. He entered a dark period at this time. Friends of his were dying of age or illness. His ideas were being beaten back by younger thinkers. His famous friendship with J.R.R Tolkien was in disrepair. He'd lost his zeal to write. He was still quite financially strapped, for many reasons. And because Oxford was as hostile to faith as it still is today, Lewis had a target on his back at his university. He was passed over again and again for new roles at Oxford. Disparaged by department heads and treated like the plague. Academics at elite universities tend to hate their colleagues who have mainstream success, which Mere Christianity was by a large margin. Lewis was in the shadowlands of his career. Then he came across a door in that long hallway, opened it, and crossed a threshold into something new. In 1950, C.S. Lewis published The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. The rest is history. In his lowest moment, C.S. Lewis' purpose was revealed to him. All the work that he had poured into Christian argumentation in his nonfiction books became the basis for his fictional work in Narnia. The ideas he tested on atheists and believers for 15 years became the story of Wardrobe, Aslan, and White Witch. Reading over the lives of Lincoln and Lewis, you get the sense that these men considered giving up. Lewis drank too much and was pretty depressed for a period of time. Lincoln's depression is well-known. But they held on. Their purpose was revealed to them. One of C.S. Lewis' central arguments about God is that if you set out to find Him, it will always be He who finds you first. The hunter becomes the hunted. But it doesn't happen unless you're open, aware, and searching. God, I'm listening. Geeky Stoics is a reader-supported publication. While I was chaperoning my daughter's Scout Troop at summer camp in July, I took The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe with me to revisit the classic C.S. Lewis tale with adult eyes. It was fun. I fully appreciate now why I loved this story so much growing up. I also can appreciate with even more clarity why I loathed the character of Edmund so much. He's the younger brother and family traitor who sells out his siblings to the White Witch, setting into motion a series of events that results in the death of Aslan, “King of Beasts”.Most readers of this book (or fans of the movies) will dislike Edmund. Perhaps there is a legion of younger brothers out there who see themselves in Edmund and hate Peter instead. That seems likely, now that I think about it.He is awful though. Edmund bullies his younger sister (Lucy) for her belief in Narnia, learns of it himself, and then lies again to make Lucy look foolish. All the while he is conspiring with the White Witch to bring her his siblings and be anointed “king” of Narnia. The Turkish Delight candies the Witch feeds him do legitimately skew his judgment, something the book goes to great lengths to make clear. Edmund is a rotten boy but he is a victim of deceit and malicious spiritual intoxication.“When faced with people's bad behavior, turn around and ask when you have acted like that. When you saw money as a good, or pleasure, or social position — Your anger will subside as soon as you recognize that they acted under compulsion. What else could they do?”- Marcus Aurelius, Meditations This is a public episode. What is the difference between these two dynamics that I can see in my own life? The enemy makes empty promises. What is one empty promise that he has made to me? What is one promise of God and His faithfulness that I have seen at work in my life? “Battle looks like surrender.” What is one battle that I need to move into a disposition of surrender to God?   Discussion Questions: What is one of the false narratives that the enemy has been telling in your life? What do you think the Father wants to say about that false narrative? What area of your heart do you feel has been turned to stone or has been hardened? Why? “Hurting people, hurt people.” How have you experienced this concept and how can we offer a response of healing? Feeling under the weather? We have something to help with that as, in this week's Bonus Episode, Eleanor is uncovering the mysterious history of folk healers in England!Part of the "Magic and Medicines" series, we start by chatting through who 'Cunning Folk' were, including quite how wide-scale their business was, as well as the time periods in which they were in their prime. This leads us through the years of Renaissance alchemy and characters like Simon Forman and Doctor John Dee, when folk healers operated during historic crackdowns on witchcraft, prompting them to move beyond 'hedge wisdom' to become anti-witchcraft experts! We explore how, after the Witchcraft Act of 1735, cunning folk were forced to adapt, the kinds of services they offered, how and why records of their lives and works began to be recorded during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and some of the remedies they offered for common problems. But has the craft of being a 'cunning man' or a 'cunning woman' ever really gone away? And were many of their methods actually very helpful? Through exploring the lives of people who gave themselves titles like, "The White Witch of Helston," "The Devil's Master" and "The Master of Witches," as well as the ways in which cunning folk have been presented in literature, we reveal some genuine mysteries - and a few examples of wonderful fakery.Which leads us to today, and where we go, in our post-industrial world, to find help with our ills. What has happened to all the Cunning Folk? The answer might just surprise you...The Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays (Magic and Medicines about folk remedies and arcane spells, Three Ravens Bestiary about cryptids and mythical creatures, Dying Arts about endangered heritage crafts, and Something Wicked about folkloric true crime from across history) plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcast Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. On this episode of the world famous Sofa King Podcast, we go back in time to a story of murder, voodoo, torture, and sex. This is the story of Annie Palmer, the White Witch of Rose Hall. The year is 1820, and an 18 year old Annie marries the wealthy owner of Rose Hall. However, he is abusive to her, and she learned dark voodoo from her nanny, so he's killed with a mix of poison and dark magic. From there she goes off the rails, killing more hubbies, having sex with slaves, torturing people, and being a medieval-style crazy woman bent by dark magic and power. But, why do some skeptics say none of the story is true? What parts can history prove? Did she really kill slave babies just to use their bones in ritual? Who is the sorcerer Takoo, and how does he help in her undoing? Listen, laugh, learn.
