Sermons - Peachtree Baptist Church

Welcome to the PBC daily post for Friday, May 1, 2020. Today I to want simply mention three things:As we continue traveling through the storm of this pandemic, we rely on good information and good resources, and both those are to find right now. Cooperative Baptist Fellowship has set up a dedicated page. It’s a great source of inspiration and helps especially as we are unable to be together in our building, so please check it out. We also have several congregants who work at the Centers for Disease Control and they have been great resources as well, especially the page about preventing yourself and others from getting sick, from how the disease spreads to how maintaining social distancing is still the best way to prevent transmission.Secondly, If you’ve checked in on the last couple of days to our daily posts you have heard about the end of the second chapter of Acts, where Luke shows us how the first organized group of Jesus followers lived. Last week we looked at Peter’s sermon that came after Pentecost when the Spirit of God descended on the people and began the multicultural mission of God to spread the news about Jesus throughout the world. An easy way of catching up is to just take a few minutes to read Acts 2. For previous discussions, check out the sermons page of the website. Finally, I think a great culmination of this in depth study is what we’ll be releasing tomorrow here on this page. Last night, Thomas Ballew, our music associate, recorded a work of extemporaneous jazz in our sanctuary as the sun was setting through our stained glass windows. A little over 17 minutes, this beautiful piece of art explores the themes presented in Acts 1 and 2. I was very moved by it, and I’m very excited to share it with you. Maybe this is what Pentecost sounded like! Thanks for listening, be sure to check in tomorrow, and I hope to see you Sunday for our zoom worship.—Paul Come back tomorrow to listen!

It must be really difficult.Katia: Well, I wouldn't say difficult, difficult. I think it's great, but it comes with some difficult things I guess. Maybe I can think of make-up and it takes us so long to get ready and it's something that we really need to do, so maybe that's one thing that we have to get used to it.Paul: Come on. It can't be so difficult: make-up. Putting on make-up on every day.Katia: Well, you get used to it, but just imagine, we need to look for the right colors, the right brand, the right price. It really gets tough.Paul: Sounds tough. Anything else difficult about being a woman?Katia: Well, some people say that it might not be so difficult but maybe giving birth might be something that woman have to face that is difficult, but perhaps for some women it's not so difficult but I think that's one other thing.Paul: Yeah, for sure. I'll never know about that. How about good things, positive things about being a woman?Katia: Well, there are many positive things. I actually can say I'm happy being a woman. Maybe one thing is, well we have in a sense... we're able to choose if we... once we marry, if we go to work or not, in general. I think that's one good thing. Don't you agree?Paul: Yeah, I would agree with that. For sure. Anything else that's positive for you?Katia: Well, since I'm not married yet, going on dates I think it's great the man has to pay. So that's a positive thing of being a woman.Paul: Great. Yeah. I definitely agree with that. OK, and finally is there one last thing. What's your favorite thing about being a woman?Katia: My favorite thing? Maybe having a sixth sense.Paul: Could you tell me more?Katia: Well, as a woman we sense certain things that men are not able to sense, so I think that's a very positive thing.Paul: For example?Katia: Well, for example, Paul, as a woman we sense people's feelings even though, for example, a man will not say anything. We can see, or we can feel what the person is feeling. The same with children, or the same with other women.Paul: I would agree with that. Women have to be more sensitive to these issues I think.Katia: Yeah, sensitive. You can call it sensitive. I call it a sixth sense.Paul: OK, it was nice talking to you.Katia: Thank you, Paul.

Overview – The Road Of Suffering. Acts 23:11. In our message today we focus on the difficult road of suffering that the apostle Paul was on which is pretty obvious from the title. But, in this message, that only has one verse, the real surprise comes in the message that Jesus Christ gives Paul when He visits him right in the midst of his extremely long road of suffering. Jesus comes to Paul in Acts 23:11 with an amazing message of comfort, despite how he was depressed and in despair. What was Christ’s message of comfort to Paul? Come and check out the message and find out, especially if you are on the road of suffering for Jesus Christ right now, and may God richly bless you as you diligently seek Him. Pastor Ed Spagnoli

So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. - Romans 7:21–23 (ESV) I believe that God's word is completely true. God doesn't lie. However, if I'm honest, there are passages that I read that just don't match up with my experience or my feelings. When Paul says Romans 6 that I'm 'dead to sin' my skepticism grows. Am I really? When he says 'I'm no longer a slave to sin but righteousness' that's not what it feels like in the struggle to do right. Do you feel like me? This week we get to a passage that will probably ring more true in your experience. In Romans 7, Paul gets personal. Some might even say too personal. He opens up about his own struggle as one trusting in Christ but living in this fallen world. Take a few minutes and read the last half of Romans 7, starting in verse 13. Can you relate to Paul? Come hear how this helps us to reconcile what we were, where we are going, and the struggle in between.

Overview – God’s Blessing Of Preparation And Confirmation. Acts Ch. 21:7-14. In our message today Paul is still headed for Jerusalem, but he makes two stops to two different coastal cities. It is in his second stop, in the city of Caesarea, where he and those with him visit Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven that the early church in Jerusalem had ordained to serve some widows. It is while in Caesarea that Paul meets a man named Agabus, who was a prophet of God, and he gives Paul some news. Some news of God’s blessing of preparation and confirmation, but news that was not received as such by those who were with Paul. Why would a message of God’s blessing of preparation and confirmation not be received well by those who were with Paul? Come and take a listen please and find out. May God richly bless you as you diligently seek Him Pastor Ed
