Rock, blues and pop band The Banquets hailing from Leeds, United Kingdom join the podcast today. Gemma Dee, vocals and Leon Russell-Hills, guitarist chat with me today. We hear three recent releases today. The band has evolved into a strong musical trio creating unique music that captivates you. Their latest single “Black Mirrors” is out on May 7th. Be sure to subscribe to our sister podcast thebuzzr after hours. We will play “Black Mirrors” as part of our Women of Rock segment tomorrow night.Band BioThe Banquets are an alt- rock/pop trio from Leeds with talent in their souls and ambition in their hearts. They had an explosive arrival to the music scene in 2019 and 2020, making an appearance at the Great British Folk Festival, and supporting the likes of The South (formerly The Beautiful South) and legendary icon Toyah Wilcox. The Banquets' music is a simple mix of rock, blues, and pop music, whilst maintaining the great tradition of British rock. The musical influences of the band stretch far and wide, and go right back to the early 20th century blues scene. Their sound is hugely impacted by the music that has flowed out of America over the last century, and like most British music, it reflects back that sound and rubs in some northern British magic. Bit louder than we've been of late tonight. After a nice visit to The Noise Upstairs to play with the 50/50 Ensemble I managed to blag a small pile of CDs from the merch table, courtesy of NUS man Anton Hunter, so lots from there, with some other delights we've been sent lately. For episode three of The Little podcast, it's all about the Depp. The man of the hour (well, 35 minutes), Johnny Depp, stars in Black Mass -- now playing! In this biopic, Depp plays James "Whitey" Bulger -- a notorious Boston criminal who enters into an agreement with the FBI. And you may imagine, things don't always go smoothly in this partnership. Guests for episode three of Movies and a Microphone are: Megan McLaughlin, an associate producer at WXXI and an owner of Johnny Depp socks, and Mike Scipioni, a web coordinator at WXXI and he's the creator of a local online talk show Rochester Live. We touch upon the acting in Black Mass, Boston accents, and yes, those Depp socks. I also drop a Depp surprise on the guests ....
