Acclaimed poet and songwriter, Rodney DeCroo joins Pam Bentley and RC Weslowski to talk about the Al Purdy 100th birthday tribute night and to share some of Purdy's poems. This was also the last show for Pam Bentley as co host.
We start the show off with a review for "Aquarela do Brasil" with an in depth look into the culture and music culture of Brazil. A poem by Al Purdy starts the Jawbone Segment which then goes into a shout out to Rodney DeCroo and a review for "Much Ado About Nothing". We spend a good rest of the time talking about our continued love with "Much Ado About Nothing" along with a shout out to Dawn Pemberton, who is singing at the Labyrinth of St. Paul's Anglican Church, and bands we love, such as Dear Rouge, Modern Space, and The Escapes.
Rodney deCroo pays tribute to working class poet Al Purdy, Nathan Narusis, playwright/producer of Pieces of Eight and Maiko Yamamoto of Theatre Replacement talks about 'MINE'.
My apologies for technical glitches and strange noises which occurred during tonight's broadcast. Ghosts in the machines, I'm convinced! In any case, I hope you enjoy an eclectic music mix which includes a Newfoundlander on accordion, a Malian on guitar, and an Acadian on vocals.Joining me live in the studio tonight were local troubador Rodney Decroo, accompanied by upright bass player Mark Haney. We heard some exquisite tunes from Rodney's latest album. To those who celebrate/partake, a happy 4-20! Spark 'em if you got 'em. ;-)hugs, valfolkoasis@gmail.com
This week we’re joined on the telephone by Devin Cuddy, who is set to release a stellar new second record and appear at Times Change(d)! We’ve also got some other great upcoming shows to chat about and spin songs in honour of.

What a fun show! At the top, Rodney DeCroo called in to chat about his upcoming Vancouver Fringe Festival production, "Allegheny, BC". Most of the rest of the show was ambushed (in best way possible) by East Van man C.R. Avery. We heard some of his recorded work, both new and old, and a few live songs. And my sister phoned in to tell a (mostly true) story about me! Good times. Thanks for listening, and have a safe long weekend, eh?cheers, val folkoasis@gmail.com
Frazey Ford (ex-Be Good Tanyas) and Rodney DeCroo did separate live interview sets tonight. Good times with both, I'm sure you'll enjoy listening! Also a short phone interview with Maple Ridge native Hilary Grist. E-mail before Sept. 4 if you want in on the Frazey Ford autographed CD contest!Have a safe and happy Labour Day weekend,valfolkoasis@gmail.com
Slightly abbreviated version tonight due to Paralympics-related traffic snarls (there's a phrase I thought I'd never type!!) Local singer-songwriter Rodney DeCroo joined me in the studio for a live session. Wrapped up tonight's show with some Van Morrison & The Chieftains. Does it get any more Irish than that now? Happy St. Pat's Day.Slainte, val folkoasis@gmail.com
