The 2025 Genesis G90 3.5T E-Supercharged AWD takes center stage in this week's lead road test. As the flagship sedan from Hyundai's luxury division, the G90 proves Genesis is no longer chasing the German elite; it's expecting to compete head-to-head. Powered by a twin-turbo V6 paired with an electric supercharger, the G90 delivers 409 horsepower and refined acceleration with zero turbo lag — because it doesn't have a turbocharger. Instead, its cleverly named mild-hybrid system gives the luxosedan an added boost. Inside, it's a rolling sanctuary, offering ventilated and massaging seats front and rear, dual rear entertainment screens, and a concert-level 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. Wrapped in elegant, understated design, and priced at $101,750, Host Jack Nerad notes it undercuts competitors like the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7 Series by tens of thousands while approaching them in tech, comfort, and craftsmanship. But is it ready to compete against the elite on an equal basis? Jack and co-host Chris Teague will deliver their opinions Also in the spotlight, Chris Teague tests the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning, which returns with updated software, improved range, and more efficient battery use. As America's best-selling electric pickup, the Lightning now features Ford's latest digital tools, including Google Built-In integration and enhanced towing tech. With multiple range options and fleet-ready solutions, Ford is positioning the Lightning as an evolving platform for work and lifestyle. The ride is smoother than ever, thanks to suspension refinements, and new accessories broaden its use case beyond construction sites. For anyone who's still skeptical of electric trucks, the F-150 Lightning might well chip away at the objections. Our special guest this week is Meghan Giammarusti, Design Director at Ford Motor Company, who joins Jack to talk about the revamped technology package inside the 2025 Ford Expedition. With Google Built-In leading the charge, the Expedition's cabin becomes a more connected, intuitive environment than ever before. Giammarusti explains how Ford's design team worked to integrate high-function tech while preserving a clean, family-friendly interior layout. Her insights reveal the future of infotainment design at Ford, detailing how tech and design must evolve together. Driving News This Week Tesla Expands in China with 6-Seat Model Y L Tesla just debuted the Model Y L, a stretched, six-seat version of its popular SUV designed specifically for the Chinese market. It adds a third row and sports a purported 467 miles of range as Tesla tries to fend off rising competition from local Chinese EV makers like BYD. 2026 Acura Integra Gets a High-Tech Refresh Acura's bestselling compact sedan gets new colors, bigger screens, and more premium features across all trims for the new model year. The A-Spec versions are particularly bold, with blue microsuede inserts, upgraded ambient lighting, and a more aggressive body kit. California Commits $55M to Fast EV Charging
California is investing $55 million to expand fast-charging infrastructure across the state, making the odd decision to focus on low-income, “underserved” communities. The Fast Charge California Project provides up to $100K per charging port, aiming to accelerate zero-emission adoption before the state's controversial 2035's gas vehicle sales ban. Rivian Reboots $5 Billion Georgia Plant After delays, Rivian is moving forward with its massive EV factory outside Atlanta, backed by a $6.6 billion federal loan. The facility, expected to open in 2028, will build Rivian's upcoming R2 crossover and create 7,500 jobs. Listener Question We wrap the episode with a listener question from Willie in Pacoima, CA: “Gas is really expensive here, and it's killing me. Is there a way I can boost fuel economy without changing how I drive?” Chris and Jack tackle this one head-on, with realistic tips that won't require hypermiling or a ne...

“I work in between archeology and anthropology in this field called either historical archeology or contemporary archeology. At the heart of that is the relationship between objects and humans. How do we write about the past or the present in terms of listening to human voices or evidence from things where maybe human voices have been erased or haven't left as much of a mark on the written records as others? Wrapped up with that, though, is always the risk of dehumanization, of the treatment of human lives as if the boundary between a subject and an object is one that is permeable, not in a sort of positive way, but in a more sinister way. There is a long history of people being treated as things.”In this episode of Speaking Out of Place podcast Professor David Palumbo-Liu talks with Dan Hicks about the present's responsibility to itself. How do not only monuments, but also the very idea of monumentality, serve to mystify and perpetuate beliefs that maintain social orders that deserve to be strenuously re-evaluated? Archaeologist and anthropologist Dan Hicks traces the development of a particularly virulent strain of monument-worship, that which emerges out of what he calls “militarist realism,” which harnesses technologies of war, particularly colonial, white supremacist war, to build institutions, disciplines, museums in its image in order to permanently maintain a border between those deemed human subjects and the object-worlds of the non-human—which includes racial others. Rather than grant the past immunity, Hicks argues that we need to decide for ourselves what we chose to remember, and what deserves to be forgotten.Dan Hicks is Professor of Contemporary Archaeology at Oxford University, Curator at the Pitt Rivers Museum, and a Fellow of St Cross College. He has written widely on art, heritage, museums, colonialism, and the material culture of the recent past and the near-present. Send us a textThis week's moving picture was selected by guest host (and Season 15's Squib Games curator/raison d'être) Jack, canonically a Ted Kaczynski stan, as confirmed by his pick CLEARCUT (1991).   And so the pod returns to Canada (a.k.a. America's sombrero) and Canadian lore with another émigré director's first North America feature-length film (see Hard Targét ep from two weeks ago for our prior), this time with a story originally told in the Canadian novelist M. T. Kelly's A Dream Like Mine about Canadian First Nations people fighting to maintain the sanctity of their land against industry and classified in the movie's hard media BluRay release as “folk horror” by Sevrin in its 15-disc All the Haunts Be Ours collection. Cold War Polish-famous director Ryszard Bugajski was chosen for his political provocateur Polish pictures (after a stint directing Canadian TV) and modifies the 1987 novel, moving it from mercury poisoning and mining to the timber industry after the recent Oka standoff (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oka_Crisis) and hence finding a title, which at least one host this ep finds oxymoronic. Bugajski also credits himself with cutting a lot of the dialogue from the screenplay to let the film visually provide exposition.  The film stars Graham Greene--which is why host Ryan's grandfather saw the limited release film that by the 2000's had only two extant prints (one copy was about to be disposed and why the transfer on the BluRay and streaming has 35mm film's cue marks, a.k.a. cigarette burns)--as a trickster spirit or actual human person (depending on whether lead actor or director was asked) who challenges the film's White protagonist and lawyer played by Ron Lea who's failed to protect the land against mill owner Bud Rickets played by Battlestar Galactica's (the newer, good one) own Michael Hogan (not to be confused with Jack Nance who concurrently white haired and sporting a moustache by a river was at this time portraying Pete in Twin Peaks, you know, “Wrapped in plastic.” and “There was a fish in the perculator.”). Greene's Arthur (no last name like Cher or Prince) as either/both/neither water spirit or direct-action First Nations radical coerces the lawyer to kidnap the mill owner, which leads to a few deaths and some skin peeled off Rickets' leg. The film is lensed by François Protat, who'd shot Weekend and Bernie's two years prior for First Blood director (and Canadian for sneeze sound effect) Ted Kotcheff. The entire folk horror or eco terror or supernatural revenge or suspense film resolves with an expected but undelivered whip pan to Rod Serling smoking a cigarette whilst giving an enigmatic, summative moral of events witnessed.  This ep goes big on host Tall Ken trivia as he finds his notepad; reveals his chainsaw approach to episode editing; sees in Greene's jeans and sneakers attire the spirit of Jerry Seinfeld (contemporaneous character, rather than actor or comedian or present-day Netflix movie director); and explains how he identifies people and sizes them up. Additionally, Ryan, Thomas, and Jack have sane things to say. THEME SONG BY: WEIRD A.I.Email: thegoodthepodandtheugly@gmail.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/TGTPTUInstagram: https://instagram.com/thegoodthepodandtheugly?igshid=um92md09kjg0Bluesky: @goodpodugly.bsky.socialYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6mI2plrgJu-TB95bbJCW-gLetterboxd (follow us!):Podcast: goodpoduglyKen: Ken KoralRyan: Ryan Tobias

I'd done my whole adult life with my Karen, the only woman I ever needed. Suddenly, I had to figure out how to do the rest of my life without her. That Sunday night, we sat in the bleachers at our local football stadium and we watched our grandson graduate from high school as valedictorian and he gave a faith-filled valedictory message. Monday afternoon, she was gone. Wrapped in this huddle of sobs with our three adult children, I just choked out the words, "It hurts so bad." It really does. After some time, I'd walk into our living room, I'd still instinctively look for that beautiful hair. I called it her "crown of glory" as she sat in her favorite blue chair. I would go to make that oatmeal that she loved for breakfast. I turn to tell her about a conversation or situation and to hear her trademark laugh over my dumb jokes. Our four-year-old grandson said it all the first time he ran into our living room and saw her chair empty. He just ran back to his mommy and said, "Mommy, you were right. She's not here." No, she's not, and she won't be again. I probably shed more tears in those weeks than I've shed the rest of my life. But I have a story to tell. Actually, it's the Story that I've tried to tell folks my whole adult life. And suddenly I was living its ultimate validation. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "A Shattered Heart, A Certain Hope." Everything I've ever believed, everything I've ever taught about my Jesus is true! Everything that my death-crushing Savior promised, I can tell you, He delivers in the darkest, most devastating days of my life! He said of those who have put their total trust in His death on the cross for their sins, and this is in our word for today from the Word of God in John 14:19. He said, "Because I live, you will live also." Because Karen's Savior is alive, so is this woman I love. In God's own words, we have "a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" (1 Peter 1:3). I'm not talking about some "cross your fingers" hope. This is living hope. Hope is a Person - Jesus. He trampled death as He blasted out of His grave on Easter morning. The hope that is holding my heart together is as sure as our hope that spring will follow a seemingly endless winter. Spring is a sure thing. So is heaven for those who've pinned all their hopes on the One who died so we could go there. As much as I love Karen, she is now with the One who loves her the most. This amazing Jesus has got my Karen. And He's got me. I can tell you that by the peace that has lasted across the years now. That peace, along with that certain hope of a forever spring after this cold winter, is a powerful counterbalance on that scale that is so weighed down by grief. Through all my darkest hours, through my loneliest moments, the peace has never been shaken. Oh, this Jesus I've talked about, that I've written about, I've believed in all these years has come closer and become more real to me than ever before. He promised He would be, as the Bible says, "close to the brokenhearted" (Psalm 34:18). He really, really is. When you walk through the valley of the shadow, you've got to have Jesus to go there. And when you walk across that final frontier beyond our death, you've got to know you belong to Jesus. If you're not sure of that, would you please make this the day you get that settled? Tell Him, "Jesus, what you died for was me. I am yours. You're alive! I want you to live in me." Check out our website - you can find there how to be sure you belong to Him. That website is ANewStory.com. Look, I'm in the biggest storm of my life - the Cat 5 hurricane, the EF-5 tornado. Jesus is my safe room. Is He yours? He's stronger than the storm. The Bible says, "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure" (Hebrews 6:19). And my friend, The Anchor holds.

New Mexico Woman Charged with Murder After Husband's Body Found Wrapped in Plastic in Their Carport Deana Thetford of New Mexico has been charged with first-degree murder after authorities discovered her missing husband, Craig Thetford, dead and hidden in their carport. She allegedly confessed to shooting him during a domestic altercation, then used a tractor to move and conceal his body for months before fleeing to Texas. Craig Thetford was reported missing in May 2024; his body was found a month later wrapped in plastic under trash. Deana Thetford allegedly told her daughter she shot Craig in a rage and dragged his body with a tractor. She fled to Texas, where she bought property using cash; over $84,000 and firearms were later found in their safes. Thetford is being held without bond in Wichita County Jail and faces charges of first-degree murder and evidence tampering.   A New Mexico woman who initially told police that her husband had gone to Mexico with another woman has been arrested and charged with his murder after authorities discovered his decomposing body hidden under trash and debris in the carport of their shared home. Deana Thetford was taken into custody in Wichita County, Texas, and is being held without bond on charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence, according to the Otero County Sheriff's Office and court records. She is accused of killing her husband, Craig Thetford, 60, sometime between January and May of 2024, and hiding his body for months on their property in Otero County, New Mexico. The investigation began on May 12, 2024, when concerned family members requested a welfare check after not hearing from Craig since January. When Otero County deputies visited the Thetfords' residence on May 15, Deana claimed Craig had left her and gone to Mexico with a new girlfriend to go fishing. She also told deputies the couple was in the process of divorcing. Deana showed deputies two locked safes that reportedly belonged to her husband, stating she didn't know the combinations. She claimed that Craig had taken as much as $1.5 million in cash with him to Mexico. However, inconsistencies in her statements soon emerged. During a follow-up interview, she changed her story, now saying Craig had gone to Texas to care for his mother—a claim his sister later disputed. Deputies also noticed unusual details on the property, including a 4- to 5-foot-deep hole in the front yard, which Deana said was intended for a raised garden bed, and non-functioning security cameras that could have recorded any activity around the time of Craig's disappearance. On May 13, just one day after the initial welfare check, Deana's adult daughter called investigators and revealed disturbing details. According to her statement, Deana admitted during a phone call that she and Craig had a violent altercation, during which he allegedly pushed her down the stairs. In a fit of rage, Deana allegedly shot Craig multiple times. Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Summer is the heart of the baseball season. But recently the country's oldest professional sport has been going through some changes. It's not just the moves to speed up the pace of play. KQED's health correspondent April Dembosky goes behind the scenes at the San Francisco Giants' ballpark to understand how the team keeps an athlete's mind in shape, both on and off the field. And we explore the history of the bacon-wrapped hot dog. Vendors selling the popular street food can be seen outside of most major gathering spots, from baseball games and concerts to tourist attractions like Pier 39. Bay Curious listener Olivia Godfrey wanted to find out the history of these food carts. But as KQED's Azul Dahlstrom-Eckman found out…it's complicated. Learn more about your ad choices.
