Zazie and Kristi are joined by Grant Hayter-Menzies to talk about his book Freddie: The Rescue Dog Who Rescued Me.In this episode, we're joined by writer and biographer Grant Hayter-Menzies to talk about his book Freddie: The Rescue Dog Who Rescued Me. We talk about how Freddie came into his life and the important ways in which dogs help us, even when we think we're the ones saving them. Freddie was a terrified rescue dog who took time to settle in, and became so important to Hayter-Menzies. Hayter-Menzies tells us about how he wrote biographies of extraordinary women, and Freddie's influence led him to start writing biographies of important animals, like Rags (the World War 1 dog), Muggins (the Canadian canine war hero who raised funds for charity in BC), and Woo (Emily Carr's monkey). Then a test at the vet showed Freddie had the cancer hemangiosarcoma. We talk about how they got through this difficult time, Freddie's bravery, and the importance of memorializing pets once they are gone.Having adopted Freddie as a fearful rescue dog, we get Hayter-Menzies' tips for anyone considering doing the same. We also ask for his advice on writing. And finally, we discuss the books we're reading. This episode we recommend:Good Grief: On Loving Pets, Here and Hereafter by E.B. Girls Gone Hallmark is a weekly Hallmark movie review podcast. This week, hosts, Megan and Wendy, talk about "Round and Round" - a time loop rom-com starring Vic Michaelis and Bryan Greenberg. Don't let the time loop trope scare you off. This might be Hallmark's best movie of the 2023 Countdown to Christmas season! Tell us what your favorite Countdown to Christmas movie from 2023! Email us at meganandwendy@gmail.com and be sure to check out the 2nd Annual Girls Gone Hallmark Best Christmas Movie bracket beginning on January 6, 2024 exclusively on our Instagram. About "Round and Round" Hallmark Movie This movie was written by Tamar Lady. Tamar has just 7 previous writing credits! She wrote “Crashing Through the Snow” for Hallmark back in 2021, as well as a handful of episodes for “Pretty Little Liars,” “Hart of Dixie,” and “General Hospital: Night Shift.” Stacey N. Harding directed. She has 12 directing credits including… "AMISH STUD: The Eli Weaver Story" starring Luke Macfarlane. For Hallmark she's directed Hearts in the Game, “Love, Classified,” “Christmas Sail,” and one of the “Mystery 101” movies. Additionally, she has worked on “Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist” as First Asst. Director, a reboot of “Charmed” and, wait for it… “UnReal.” “Round and Round” was filmed east of Vancouver, BC, in a town called Maple Ridge from March through May, 2023 (according to Heavy.com) Vic Michaelis plays Rachel. She has 24 acting credits which include a lot of shorts and videos but has also been in episodes of “Bless this Mess,” “Upload,” the reboot of “Charmed” and a sketch comedy series called “CollegeHumor Originals.” Bryan Greenberg plays Zach. He's probably best known for his role as Jake on One Tree Hill but his other 47 acting credits include ABC's “October Road,” “How to Make it in America” on HBO, “The Mindy Project,” “Bride Wars,” “Friends with Benefits” and “Prime” (one of my favorite movies!). Upcoming for Bryan is a thriller he wrote, directed and starred in called “Junction” - which also stars his wife, Jamie Chung and former One Tree Hill Sophia Bush. Rick Hoffman plays Rachel's dad Stan. Hoffman has been in a lot! He has 65 acting credits including “Billions,” 134 episodes of “Suits,” “Ballers,” “Samantha Who?” and so many more. David Attar plays terrible boyfriend Adam. Now David might be the only actor who has previously been in a Hallmark movie. We've seen him in “Guiding Emily” “Field Day” “Unexpected Grace” “A Fabled Holiday” “Autumn in the City” and “Nikki & Nora: Sister Slueths. ” Related Podcast Episode: Girls Gone Hallmark reviews "Unexpected Grace," a movie that drew some controversial takes from the Facebook group! Episode 293: During the evening of Friday, October 13 and the early hours of October 14, 1978, a group of teens and young adults attended a gathering in a rural area of Maple Ridge, B.C. That night, 16-year-old Catherine Emma Pozzobon went missing from the event. Her partially clothed remains were discovered on the afternoon of October 15, not far from the location of the party. Investigations revealed the presence of seminal fluid in her mouth, throat, and on her clothing, as well as a tuft of human hair grasped in her hand. The case was treated as a homicide by law enforcement, but without adequate evidence to pinpoint a suspect, the inquiry was eventually suspended. Two decades later, in 1998, the case was reopened with the advancement of DNA profiling as a key tool for forensic investigation. Police tested the DNA profiles of the male party attendees against the evidence found on Cathy's body, and there was a match. Twenty years after she was murdered, Cathy's family finally saw justice.
