The first episode of 2023! Ruby interviewed Ingrid Hansen, who is one third of the comedy troupe The Merkin Sisters. The Merkin Sister's new musical comedy album is out now! Lua interviewed Joshua Beamish of MOVETHECOMPANY whose dance show, Source Amnesia, premiered in Vancouver on January 13th. Then we wrap up with some exciting upcoming events happening in the city.
Arts Report is Back Baby! Kicking off the first episode of the new school year, Ruby Interviews the cast of CBC/Netflix's Fakes. We talk to the organizers and performers of the Vancouver Improv Festival. And get excited, because we announce CiTR and Arts Report's partnership with the Vancouver International Film Festival, specifically with the Norwegian Film, "Sick of Myself," dir. by Kristoffer Borgli.
Today's show features two interviews, a review and some songs to change it up! We heard from Jacob Baldwin about the Eh! Comedy Festival for one of the interviews. Next up was with UBC Alum Daniel Curalli who is currently playing Shakespeare in Theatre Under The Stars' "Something Rotten!", he also will be understudying Farren Timoteo as Francesco Mantini in The Arts Club's "Made in Italy" which will overlap with his run on Something Rotten!. We learned if it really is hard to be the bard and what it's like to prepare for two shows at once! Our review of the day was Winter Guests' "Story, Story, Die" hosted by DanceHouse at the Vancouver Playhouse.
We started off today with an in-studio interview with Brandon Yan about the Queer Film Festival which was followed by an interview with Nicole Spinola that Dave Campbell from Eclectic Lunch (Fridays 12 pm!) did about Campcue, a theatre camp! Thank you to Dave for sharing this interview with us! We played Lua's review of White Girls in Moccasins which was recorded at the airport so excuse the background noise but hey, content creation never stops. Finally we talked to Danny Malena who plays Galileo in Theatre Under The Stars' "We Will Rock You".
Today's episode is filled with interviews! We kicked off with one with Anthony Lee, who told us more about Selfie which is being presented fully online. (Fun fact, this interviewed was shared on our soundcloud ahead of time so go check out our account to get interviews and reviews ahead of time!) Afterwards we had our only review of the week, Polygon Gallery's new exhibition called Ghosts of The Machine. Next up was our interview with Chris Lam followed by our last interview of the week, with Cameron Mackenzie.
Today's episode was kicked off with a review of the new exhibition at MOA, Xicanx: Dreamers/Soñadores + Changemakers/Creadores del cambio. We followed it with a shout-out to NFB and the seven shorts that celebrate the 2022 Governor General's Performing Arts Awards (GGPAA) laureates. Afterwards we had our review of Chor Leoni's A Sound Like This and and interview with resident curator Kayleigh Sandomirsky about rEvolver Festival 2022. We finished off the show talking about Capture Photo Festival!
Today's episode had a little bit of everything: gallery, theatre, dance. We started off with an interview with Greta de León, co-curator of the new exhibition at MOA, Xicanx: Dreamers + Changemakers / Xicanx: Soñadores + Creadores del Cambio. After the interview we had a review of The Invisible by The Cultch, 'a musical that people who don't like musicals will like' and LA's BODYTRAFFIC's performance hosted by DanceHouse.
We started today with a shout-out to Bad Parent which now has been moved to the 2022/23 season so keep an eye out! We then had an interview with Theland Kicknosway about the Coastal Dance Festival. After the interview, we did a couple reviews, first one being that of White Noise. After White Noise we covered the movie Edge of the Knife and finally, How the World Began.
We kicked off today's episode with a live interview! We haven't had one of those in years and couldn't be happier to have had 2021/22 Dance West Network Re-Centering/Margins creative residency artist Sophie Dow to talk about their experience in the residency and as a dancer in general! After our interview we had some shout-outs. Shout-out to Same Difference and Himmat by Theatre Conspiracy, CJSW 90.9 FM's Survivors, Drag at the Improv Centre, Chor Leoni's upcoming concerts and Vancouver Opera's Opera Classes for adults.
We have so many reviews today! First up was All Bodies Dance which was followed by a quick listen of Mojo Jojo by Turunesh who also performed at Arts Night Out, creating the perfect transition into the review of Arts Night Out at MOA. We then heard a review of Made in Italy by the Arts Club Theatre Company as well as Program B of Six of One: New Play Festival by Studio 58. Finally we talked about Kidd Pivot's Revisor presented by DanceHouse.

Today was a bonus episode in which we talk about non-local things, all for Fundrive*!We started off by hearing from Brandon at Unsigned BC, catch them on Tuesdays and Saturdays for more local music! They are based in Victoria and volunteer run just like us. We then talked about all the events you can attend for Black History Month, ranging from livestreams to guided tours. After we were done with BC, we jumped to Deon in France! They talked about the Cannes Film Festival which they attended and it was such a pretty segment that now I want to go to Cannes to attend the festival. Afterwards we started talking about books. Before we go to Ireland for Normal People, Serra talked about the Storygraph which is a Black-owned, indie Goodreads alternative. 10/10 recommendation if you're a book lover. Our last segment was focused on Sally Rooney's Normal People because it is a beautifully written book that everyone should read and its tv adaptation is just as good as the book!

We then heard Griffin's review of Haven being put on by the United Players of Vancouver at the Jericho Arts Centre. We then shouted-out the movies being shows at VIFF Connect for Black History Month. Second to last Silvana had her review of Broadcasts from Here and finally Niko's interview with Metis author and poet Conor Kerr on his debut novel Avenue of Champions.
Happy new year folks! Our first show of 2022 was full of interviews. We started off with Ruby's interview with Laura Adamo, writer/director/producer and star of the feature film “The Wishing Tree”. We then had Serra's interview with Laine Gillies who is playing Riff Raff in Studio 58's production of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". (Tune in on Feb 9th to hear our review!) Our last interview was one that Deon did all the way from France with Lisa Baldissera who is the curator of Per Diem: The Gerd Metzdorff Collection at Griffin Arts Project until May 8th!
Our last episode of the year was pretty chill. We had Serra's interview with Erick Lichte about Chor Leoni's upcoming Christmas with Chor Leoni performance. The two talked about the projects Chor Leoni has taken on during the pandemic, getting back to performing live and how Erick needs to make sure the back of his head needs to look good because as the conductor that's what the audience sees! Serra also talked about Babel 7.16 which is a dance show inspired by the tale of Babel and was presented within Digidance. That's all, talk to you next year!

Catch it on December 22nd at 7.30 pm at the Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver! We then moved on to Serra's review of Trace by Red Sky Performance, a dance company from Toronto, hosted by DanceHouse. After Serra, Olivia talked about Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel Exhibition for her review and finally, Lua reviewed Dolly Parton's Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol.

After our three interviews, Lua and Serra talked about the Vancouver Christmas Market because they had a great time drinking mulled wine and listening to The Gingerbread Men perform.
