January 9th would have been Billy Cowsill’s 67th birthday, and there are few singers that we love more than old Billy "Bud," so I felt like listening to a bunch of his work, which somehow led into a solid set of 70s am radio classics. Strange things happen on Tell the Band to Go Home. We also have a stellar new record from Paul Kelly to share, as well as new songs from Shannon Lyon and other favourites!

The new year has brought some great new music, some brand new and some new to me. One of the more interesting finds is a song about ME that’s been on iTunes for 3 years, and I had no idea! We’ve also got a great list of some of the greatest cover versions of 2014.

We’re ringing in the new year with a 5 hour marathon, including a look back at 2014, with more of the best of the year, plus lengthy tributes to two of the most important and amazing songwriters of all time, Townes Van Zandt and Hank Williams, who share an anniversary of their deaths. The men may be gone, but the music will last forever. Even with 5 hours, there was still plenty of great music left over for weeks to come!

Christmas has come and gone, but there are still some great holiday-related songs that we haven’t played yet, so just like the turkey taking up space in your fridge, it’s time to clear out these leftovers and do something with them! This is also one of our annual holiday marathon episodes, where everyone sensible stays home and takes a break from radio, but I’ve never been accused of being sensible, so instead of the usual 2 hours, this show runs for 5! That gives us plenty of time to look back at the year that was, and play a whole bunch of the best music, concerts, and live guests of 2014!

It’s just about Christmas, and although I try to resist the temptation to play a bunch of Christmas music, there’s one show where I just give in and go with it, and this is it. Here are some songs about and for the holiday season, and they won’t even give you heart burn! The worst music in the world is bad Christmas music, but there is plenty of great stuff out there, and here are some of the good ones. Merry Christmas, everyone!

Jeremy’s along to spread some holiday cheer (and spit out some rather controversial statements near the end of the show. I think he must be adopted.) We’ve got some holiday favourites and some of this week’s upcoming shows to preview!

Another fine mix of new music, upcoming shows, a look at a great show that just happened, and a few songs for the season to get you feeling jolly and merry! Also, today is the 65th birthday of one of the greatest songwriters/performers of all time, Tom Waits!

It is, indeed, beginning to look a lot like Christmas, so it’s time to sound like it as well, as we continue to roll out some holiday music that doesn’t suck. We’ve also got some musical gift-giving options as we listen to some of the best albums of the year, and somehow, I got off on a tangent and listened to a whole pile of amazing songs by some super talented women.

Ever year, it’s my goal to prove that not all Christmas music is cheesy and terrible. Some of it is even pretty great. We present some strong evidence to prove the point today. We’ve also got new additions to the amazing Willie P Bennett Legacy Project and a few upcoming shows to preview.

Lots of what we love most, live music tonight, as we’re joined for conversation and live performances by acclaimed Ottawa area singer/songwriter Lynne Hanson, and a wonderful, upcoming local duo named Last Ditch on the Left!

Tonight marks the return of Barney Bentall & The Grand Cariboo Opry, and that’s a great reason to celebrate. We’ve even got an interview with Barney to tell us all about the magic. Plus, there are more great upcoming shows, and we’re slowly and carefully easing into holiday music mode.

It appears as if the last big wave of new music this year has hit us, and it carried along some real gems, so a necessary exploration of the contents kicks us off. It’s another crazy busy week for shows in Winnipeg, so plenty of goodness to preview as well.
