Multi-instrumentalist Sid Vashi got Fresh Out The Box right on the cusp of the New Delhi leg of his Azuma Kazuma album launch tour. In conversation with DJ MoCity, Vashi played out the songs on his latest release, and shed light, among other things, on his days in Detroit playing jazz, the experiences that shaped his first album Motherland Tourism, leading into the nitty-gritties of Azuma Kazuma and also the sampling ideologies that seemingly extend to his unique visual aesthetic.
Indian born, Canada based Iyer turns in a rattling selection of footwork for Wild City Mix #092. It isn’t a surprise that Iyer, with his background in classical Carnatic music, has explored a vast range of genres in his years making music. Though his main area of expertise remains drum n’ bass, the producer has also played with elements in UK garage, dubstep, house, and more recently, footwork. His technical finesse, bold production and ambitious mixes of different styles of music from across the world have helped him cement a place in Singapore’s music community. Iyer’s is currently involved in pushing forward thinking sounds off his digital label Phyla, while pursuing a Bachelors degree in Applied Sciences in Ontario, Canada. Iyer’s exclusive mix for Wild City begins with the oddest two minutes we’ve heard on any of our mixes so far – a giggling intro of Yogi B and Natchatra’s rendition of ‘Go Shorty’. The producer keeps the hip hop vibe going with Sid Vashi’s first-rate Danny Glover cover followed by some laid back beats from Akeem before making the audacious transition to the beat heavy 160 bpm footwork that dominates the rest of his mix. Mix #092 also features some exceptional new work from Iyer and Oceantied a.k.a. Ketan Bahirat (who "might just be India’s answer to the global 160 BPM movement" according to Rahul Giri.). This is high octane stuff. For a tracklist and further info, head over here: http://www.thewildcity.com/EN/music.xhtml/article/8003-wild-city-092-iyer

Sid Vashi is a producer and multi-instrumentalist from Detroit, Boston, and more recently Gurgaon, India. A man who enjoys listening to R.D Burman and J Dilla simultaneously and often refers to himself in the third person. With a deep love for sample based music, he tries to incorporate these ideas to his unique brand of electronic music, by using and manipulating samples "until they take on a personality and voice of their own." We picked up on this young chap, earlier this year and have been holding on to this mix for a while. His stunning Motherland Tourism EP, available to download via his Bandcamp, came as one of the most surprising releases from any artist this year, fusing modern production sensibilities with Indian classical/Bollywood samples. With Sid on all production duties, co-collaborator Soopy provides all vocal samples and each self-written track abounds with tunnels of broad, hypnotic loops and ambient samples whilst retaining hazy basslines and splashes of colour that have almost become a staple for post-dubstep producers, the world over. As a whole, the EP showcases the versatility of this young beat-maker who we're hoping to bring over to India for a show later this year. The mix is almost just a tease. Counting in at just over 16 minutes it runs through 5 original productions alongside a track from Flying Lotus, Madlib and Heems. A good choice of company and we just can't wait to hear more. "This mix is just a compilation of my own stuff as well as some stuff from some western artists that really influenced my style, especially in terms of the way I like to sample and arrange different sounds." - Sid Vashi For a tracklist and further info, head over here: http://www.thewildcity.com/EN/music.xhtml/article/3961-wild-city-055-motherland-tourism
