Christian Zyp interviews Ryan Prows (director/writer) and Tim Cairo (writer) about their film NIGHT PATROL. See the Canadian Premiere at the Metro Cinema on Saturday May 23rd at 6:30pm. Ryan & Tim as well as screenwriters Jake Gibson and Shaye Ogbonna will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A.NIGHT PATROL is a 2025 American horror thriller film starring Jermaine Fowler, Justin Long, Freddie Gibbs, RJ Cyler, YG, Nicki Micheaux, Flying Lotus, Phil Brooks, and Dermot Mulroney. It's a cop corruption thriller that's also a vampire movie focusing on four characters. Ethan Hawkins (Justin Long), the son of a legendary LAPD cop (Dermot Mulroney), who wants to join The Night Patrol, an unofficial, secretive, elite unit within the department that's essentially a vampire street gang with badges and uniforms. Ethan's partner, Xavier Carr (Jermaine Fowler), is a Black patrolman who used to be a member of the Crips gang and hopes to rise through the ranks of the police and become somebody who gives orders as well as takes them. Xavier's brother, Wazi Carr (RJ Cyler), is a Crips-affiliated petty criminal who sleeps on a bare mattress at his mama's house. He's in shock over secretly witnessing an LAPD officer murdering someone close to him, and fears a Night Patrol member will kill him to prevent him from testifying about what he saw.Stream NIGHT PATROL on Shudder.

Our guest this week is Thundercat, and we couldn't have picked a better one to mark our 500th episode. The Los Angeles-born bassist, vocalist, and producer has built a reputation as one of the most gifted and distinctive voices in contemporary music, an artist who has never been content to stay in one place, with a body of work that pulls from funk, jazz, soul, and avant-garde R&B. A Grammy Award-winner whose collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus, and the late Mac Miller have made him as celebrated on other people's records as his own, with his records ‘Drunk' and ‘It Is What It Is' standing as benchmarks of his solo work. Last month, he released Distracted, his first album in six years, and he's currently in Australia on tour in support. On today's episode, Thundercat joins us to discuss what it felt like to come back with a new record after such a long absence, the qualities he seeks out in a collaborator, and the deeply personal process behind She Knows Too Much, made in conjunction with Mac Miller's estate.Thundercat : Instagram / Spotify / WebsiteVisit our official website here and follow us across our socials.

Episode 104: Kamasi Washington Kamasi Washington is one of the most important voices in modern jazz. A saxophonist, composer, and bandleader from Los Angeles, he has helped shape the sound of contemporary music through his solo work and collaborations with artists like Kendrick Lamar, Thundercat, Dinner Party, Flying Lotus, Andre 3000, Terrace Martin, and Robert Glasper. In this episode of Go With Elmo, Kamasi sits down for a deep conversation about his journey, from growing up in Los Angeles with the greatest young talents all around him to becoming a central figure in a global movement of jazz, hip-hop, and beyond. The LA music scene, the importance of community, and the foundation of the West Coast Get Down collective all come into focus. Kamasi breaks down the West Coast Get Down and the musicians involved, including Thundercat, Ronald Bruner Jr., Cameron Graves, Brandon Coleman, Ryan Porter, Patrice Quinn, Miles Mosley, and Tony Austin, and how that group helped define a new sound coming out of Los Angeles. Kamasi explains why he often performs with multiple drummers and multiple bassists, how he builds such powerful live ensembles, and what it takes to lead large groups of musicians on stage and in the studio. The conversation dives into Kamasi's work on Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly, the creative energy of those sessions, how he got the call for the Kendrick gig from Terrace, and their continued connection over time. More recent collaborations like “Luther” and “TV Off” are discussed, along with Kendrick referencing him by name in the lyric “keep a horn on me, that Kamasi,” a moment that reflects his influence across genres. Making his landmark albums The Epic, Heaven and Earth, and Harmony of Difference are explored, along with his approach to jazz saxophone, composition, improvisation, and bandleading. His broader work as a composer, including Becoming and Lazarus, adds to the scope of his career and creative output. The conversation goes deep into music philosophy, creativity, and meaning, including Kamasi's belief that music is bigger than genre and can communicate ideas beyond words. Fatherhood, inspiration, and the evolution of his perspective all play a role in shaping his current work. This is a wide-ranging talk about music, culture, leadership, and the journey of becoming one of the defining artists of this generation. I hope you enjoy watching my hang with the great, Kamasi Washington! Big thanks to our friends Ace Studio for supporting the show.

Quentin Tarantino has been releasing movies since we were teenagers, so he holds a special place for us. This is especially true of the Kill Bill movies since we were a little older, plus they became a part of mainstream culture. Watching The Whole Bloody Affair is a tall order, however. The news about Scary Movie 6 has us much more excited. After watching the trailer for Ash, it is hard not to wonder if they used all the good shots for it. After seeing the actual movie, you realized that they could have picked any part of the film and it would have looked great. It also features some top notch performances and an engaging mystery. So why do so many people hate it? It probably has to do with the climax, which ruins all the good will Ash had built up. The over the top nature is subjective and some people will enjoy it. But its decision to completely rip off Alien is hard to ignore.Good Boy does not hide the fact that it is a gimmick. It is a haunted house story in which its main character is a dog. But not only is Indy the main character, he is pretty much the only one. The story and camera are completely different focused on him.Does it move past this and become something that audiences can become attached to? Well, if you have ever had a pet, you will love Good Boy. And if you have not had one, it will make you want to get one. Oh yeah. It is also scary, has great storytelling, and features one of the most emotionally impactful movies we have seen all year. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Dan O'Bannon, the co-screenwriter of ALIEN (1979), once stated (paraphrasing) that nothing is original but writers borrow from others. Well, the new science fiction horror film, ASH (2025), certainly does that. It has a bit of ALIEN, among other science fiction films, as well as the novels and works of Michael Crichton. From IMDB: “A woman wakes up on a distant planet and finds the crew of her space station viciously killed. Her investigation into what happened sets in motion a terrifying chain of events.”Ash is the directorial feature length debut of the artist known as Flying Lotus based on a screenplay by Jonni Remmler. The film stars Eiza Gonzalez and Aaron Paul. The film includes science fiction, horror, and techno-thriller elements within it. Getting 71% good reviews by critics while only 54% by audiences, your co-hosts take a look at this highly debated film and give their thoughts.

This week's Uncertified episode tackles Flying Lotus' new sci-fi horror freakout, Ash. In theaters now, and coming to Shudder soon enough, the multi-hyphenate creator tells a cosmic horror tale heavily influenced by genre video games. Donato's a harder sell on space-set scariness, while Monagle couldn't be more of an Alien slash Event Horizon fanboy. Where will they land on Flying Lotus' "smaller budget, big idea" thriller starring Eiza González and Aaron Paul?
