ENTERTAINING SHORT FILMS is a new category on the RPA Network, which features indie short films for your enjoyment! We applaud these creators! When a curious child falls into a long-forgotten cave, she is confronted by a mysterious spirit and must decide whether the being is kindhearted or something more perilous.
Let's start the new year off right, with a visit to Old Hollywood, and in the company of two very different movies... The first is a curious experience - a drama masquerading as a musical comedy, but featuring little of either, and an uneasy voyage into some questionable attitudes of the day... The second is a startling thriller featuring a taut plot, a high-level stakeout, and the debut of an actress who would go on to become something of a legend... (clue: she's still with us today) Radio entertainment this time is a double-billed featuring one of cinema's most iconic duos! Authors Between the Covers: What It Takes to Write Your Heart Out
About Angela D. Glascock: Let’s be honest: I’m writing this bio. Me. Angela D. Glascock. The author of the book you stumbled upon (Locksmith at the End of the World). So, I’m not going to write about myself in third person because that's awkward. My book, Locksmith at the End of the World: A Dead Silence Novella is about a zombie apocalypse primarily from a dog's point of view; however, shortly after I published it I realized that the book represents the personal apocalypse my family and I experienced after we lost my sister to suicide. When I examined my little zombie book as if it were assigned to me for a literature class, I realized the underlying themes and subjects represented more than what I'd written: zombies (shamblers or WrongHumans) are the loss, the guilt, the anger. My two female characters (Emma and Lucy) represent strength and perseverance: survive all the loss and keep going, regardless of all the nasty stuff floating around in your head. Chester, the dog—the character I most relate to—finds himself thrust into a situation where his person is gone, and his world is a shambles. I’m currently working on the sequel to Locksmith, tentatively titled Foothills and Hollers. I have a blog (who doesn't?) called Biggest, Brightest Star in the Sky: Mostly True Tales. Here I post some of my creative non-fiction pieces, editorials, and essays. My blog is a mix of entertaining (I hope) and seriousness. You’ll find stories I've collected from my dad about growing up in northern Virginia and all the shenanigans and things you couldn’t get away with today. There are also essays about life after losing my sister to suicide. Like most writers, I read A LOT. My favorite genres are memoir and thrillers, but I often indulge in post-apocalyptic and zombie literature. In 1998, my personal essay “Pictures” was chosen for publication in 25 Best Virginia Community College Student Essays: 1998: the Personal Essay. I also have pieces in the Writers of Chantilly anthologies (2016) Rewrite the Ending to… (“Hemorrhage”), (2017) Soundtracks of Our Lives (“Mental Souvenirs” and “River Music”) and (2018) Islands (“Love’s Crimson Caress”). Currently, I am an editorial writer for our neighborhood newspaper, I’m working on a book about my sister, and a book about my grandfather. Angela is a member of the Writers of Chantilly. Learn more here: writersofchantilly.blogspot.com “Locksmith at the End of the World,” by Angela Glascock About Locksmith at the End of the World: A Dead Silence Novella: Dead Silence, Part One: The zombie apocalypse from a dog's point of view. When his person has a heart attack and dies, Chester the dog is thrust into a world where wronghumans stalk in silence and humans become deadly in an instant. He's hungry. He's hurt. He's alone. Wounded while fleeing her burning town, Lucy seeks medical care in an abandoned animal clinic. A locksmith in the Before, she uses her skills to stay quiet and unseen as she loots nearby homes for food as she heals. What she finds in one of the houses gives her hope…and friend, if she can save him. Emma calls them shamblers. The media called them zombies. But in the After, the media is long gone, just like Emma's companions. She's alone in her refuge when shamblers finally break down the barriers and death pours in. Forced into a lonely world where she might be the only one left alive, she moves through the silence, learning survival on the fly while searching for life. Buy the book.
A brilliant “new” star blazed into view more than a thousand years ago. It’s the brightest star ever recorded, and may be the brightest ever seen by human eyes. Supernova 1006 first appeared in late April of the year 1006. For a few weeks it shined many times brighter than Venus, which is the brightest object in the night sky after the Moon. It was bright enough to see during the day, and remained visible at night for more than two years. It was recorded by cultures around the world. At the time, nobody knew what the star actually was. Today, though, we know it was a supernova. It formed in a binary system. At least one of the two stars was a white dwarf – a stellar corpse. It might have pulled gas from a living companion star. Or perhaps the companion was another white dwarf, and the two stars rammed together. Either way, a white dwarf was pushed beyond its critical weight limit. That caused a runaway nuclear explosion that blasted the star to bits. Debris from the blast continues to race outward at millions of miles per hour. Astronomers watch this debris, mainly in radio waves and X-rays, to learn more about the star and its demise. Supernova 1006 was along the border between the constellations Lupus and Centaurus. The spot is low in the south-southwest at nightfall. But the residue of this brilliant outburst has faded away. Large telescopes reveal only a colorful ribbon at the edge of the expanding bubble. [STS103] We're making our way through Star Trek: Short Treks, and today we hit season one, episode three, The Brightest Star. Join us, and hear all about the things — […]
Back in the day, streaming "Trek" tried a fun little experiment that actually worked out pretty well! So of course they only did it twice. This week we're looking at the first four "Short Treks", bite-sized bits that go a bit outside the usual realms of the show. This time around we've got a stowaway, two different kinds of rescue, and a rascally con-man! Also this week: kids shows, cartoons, and title cards! [Timestamps: Runaway: 04:01; Calypso: 21:49; The Brightest Star: 38:31; The Escape Artist: 56:50; The Blog: 1:06:14] [Intros: https://sshbpodcast.tumblr.com/post/777202555238449152/short-intros-for-short-treks ] NOTE: we get into some, we'll say, "heavy foreshadowing" for S.2 of "Discovery" in our discussion of "Calypso". We never go full spoiler but if you really want to go into it TOTALLY clean, maybe skip that one.

The universe is going to give you so many opportunities, but these are not gifts. Opportunities come at a cost, though. You have to recognize and capitalize on these opportunities. They also come disguised as challenges. And they are going to be challenging whether you accept the opportunity in front of you or not. So take advantage of the opportunity the universe has presented to you. You've already paid for them, so use them.Brightest Star by Rafael KruxLink: https://filmmusic.io/song/5620-brightest-star-License: https://filmmusic.io/standard-licenseMentioned in this episode:New Book: The View From The Deck: Thoughts on Values, Vision, and GratitudeGet your copy of Michael Whitehouse's new book The View From The Deck: Thoughts on Values, Vision, and Gratitude now. https://amzn.to/4a6w0tu

It's okay to give up, but determine it ahead of time. You'll think about it once, then never think about it again. Everything you try to do will happen if you're looking there. Commit to something. It can be as small as getting up at a specific time. Commitment is something you are going to do. It's not something you're trying to do. It isn't something you might do. Committing to something shows you that you have power over your own life. SHOW NOTES It's November, so our Casual Explorers have novels to write, but we also want to bring you the innovative Casual Content you crave, so we're going to go through all of Short Trek in a two part binge. We've make some new friends alongside Tilly as we discover that Ice Cream isn't a universal constant like Sweedish Meatballs (Babylon 5 fans will get that one) in Runaway while in the far-future, things feel a bit like the opener to most RPGs with FPS mechanics in Calypse. After that, things go a little bit folk horror for the Kelpians as we get Saru's secret origin in The Brightest Star while Miles becomes disturbingly obsessed with saying 'Jippers on a Beach' like he's Harry Mudd in The Escape Artists. Next episode will see us wrap up the Short Excursion with the second season of Short Treks!- 8:01- Runaway (ST)- 19:21- Calypso (ST) - 29:21- The Brightest Star (ST) - 39:17- The Escape Artists (ST) Talking points include- Harlan Ellison's agressive tendencies, The Exorcist II: The Heretic, Wes Anderson and The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar, Charlie hates Maroon 5 (But when pressed on this, he simply replied 'Who Doesn't?'), we had a LOT of music on this one, Asteroid City, folk horror, Bioshock and RPGS with First Person Shooter Tendencies, Classic Doctor Who fans having very obsessive tendencies, every time Charlie talks about Delgrassi Junior High, he paints an ever more disturbing image of a Canadian Teen Drama written and directed by Sam Peckinpah, Quinton Review's Long YouTube Videos about Carly 101 and VicTORIous, Rick and Morty and apparantly the British being unable to pronounce anyone's names correctly. Pedants Corner: Miles is editing the two Short Trek episodes and that has inspired him to take some of the editing load off Charlie giving them both one episode a month to edit, there may be a few spotty edits, but there we go. The Quinton Review discussion went in a few tangents dealing with personal stuff that both Miles and Charlie decided were best left out of the episode itself. Adventurous celebrities prepare for takeoff to the red planet, where they live, eat, sleep, strategize and bond with each other in the same space station. During their stay, they are faced with authentic conditions that simulate life on Mars, and they must use their brains and brawn -- or maybe just their stellar social skills -- to outlast the competition and claim the title of Brightest Star in the Galaxy. The celebrities compete in missions and vote to eliminate one of their crewmates each week, sending them back to Earth, leading to intergalactic alliances and rivalries. "Stars on Mars" sends these famous rookie space travelers where no one has gone before and reveals who has what it takes to survive life on "Mars."
So are you as good as you think you are? Very much so. You're probably better than you think you are. But our culture doesn't have huge celebrations every time we achieve something, so it's hard to believe that you aren't just pretending to be something you're not. Being authentically you is the best way to present yourself. Be the best you that you can be.Brightest Star by Rafael Krux Link: https://filmmusic.io/song/5620-brightest-star- License: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license
The Nights Brightest Star - Leah Nights Theme Song Featuring Mr. Good Barz
Bible Reading: Revelation 22:12-17"Let's see who can find the brightest star," Garrett said to his sister one hot summer evening as they looked up at the starry sky. "The loser has to buy ice cream tomorrow.""I don't think you can prove which one is the brightest," said Eden. But she suddenly pointed to the north. "That one's mine! That bright one up there."Garrett squinted. "I think I see the one you mean, but I see a brighter one." He pointed in another direction. "See--right in the middle of that cluster of stars. That one's brighter than the one you found.""How do you know that?" asked Eden. They continued searching the heavens as they argued about which star was brighter. When Dad came out to tell them it was bedtime, Garrett and Eden told him about their competition and asked him to judge which star was brightest of all. "Okay, I'll do my best," Dad said, and they pointed out the stars they had chosen. "As judge," said Dad, "I declare that neither of those is the brightest star of all. In fact, I think the two of you should buy me ice cream because I know the brightest star personally.""What do you mean, you know a star?" asked Eden. "We're not talking about football or movie stars, you know."Dad laughed. "Neither am I. And I'm not talking about a star in the sky either. I'm talking about Jesus. In the last chapter of the Bible, which talks about the day He will return to earth as King, He's called the bright Morning Star. On that day, He will put an end to the darkness of sin and evil forever and fill the heavens and earth with His light, and everyone who knows Him as their Savior will reign with Him for all eternity. I'd say that's the brightest star of all, wouldn't you?""Okay, Dad." Garrett grinned at his father as he got up to go inside. "But no treat. You weren't in on the deal.""And you're not the only one who knows the brightest star personally," added Eden. "We know Jesus too!""Well then," said Dad, "since you've both found the brightest star, how about I buy all of us ice cream tomorrow?" -Hazel W. MarettHow About You?Do you know Jesus--the bright Morning Star? When He returns to earth again as King, it will be the morning of a bright, new day--a glorious day that will never end! But He wants you to know Him as your Savior and King now. He invites you to come to Him. Trust in Him today so you can look forward to a bright future with Him that will last forever. Today, we have the audio from our in-store event with Diana Biller, the author of The Widow of Rose House, The Brightest Star in Paris, and, most recently, Hotel of Secrets. Much like the book, Diana is brilliant and funny and gives good banter. She talks about the time a professor called her essay on jury selection “elegant”, taking herself seriously as an artist, the underrated hotness of ethical men, writing historical romances in uncommon settings and the limitations of seeing history exclusively through the lens of Georgette Heyer's interpretation of Regency England, and Diana's approach to research and writing. Then Diana takes some really excellent audience questions, and, ends, of course, with some books she's loved recently.

Following a 10-year hiatus to work on other projects and student politics as well as the imminent digital release of his back-catalogue, we can announce that New Zealand producer Deadbotz Kid will be releasing his new studio album "Shadow Theory" on February 18th, 2023.Influenced by Indie Rock and elements of Dance Music Shadow Theory was written and recorded in Morrinsville, Te Aroha, and Hamilton, New Zealand; in secret recording sessions over 2020-2022, the album details his journey through the pandemic years and his subsequent battle with mental health issues and life events within that time. Featuring 11 tracks and 7 guest vocalists from the USA, Argentina, Hungary, and France; Shadow Theory clocks in at 49 Minutes."These songs were never meant to be released. To me, this was a therapeutic exercise to express how I was feeling in a very shaky and uncertain period of my life. Unknowingly these songs came from that therapeutic exercise as a blessing and have acted as a vehicle to reconnect with life, faith, family, and the thing I care about the most that I lost sight of during the pandemic and the madness that came with it. I hope this album will connect with you and help you on your own paths too, just like they did for me".- Deadbotz KidShadow Theory will be available on CD, Vinyl, and Digital Streaming outlets on February 18th, 2023. Pre-Orders will begin on February 1st, 2023, for all platforms. In the meantime, you can stream the first single from the album "Brightest Star" on Deadbotz's website and on streaming sites from February 1st, 2023. Hosted on Acast. We really enjoyed the setting and the romance in this ghostly love story. There was some angst, but not a ton of it was driven by the relationship which we always enjoy. Warning: Meg has a new mic and Laine hasn't gotten hers yet for this episode. The contrast is noticeable.
