featured Wiki of the Day

fWotD Episode 2911: I'm God Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Thursday, 24 April 2025, is I'm God."I'm God" is an instrumental song by the American producer Michael Volpe, known professionally as Clams Casino, and the British singer Imogen Heap. Volpe created "I'm God" in 2009 by sampling Heap's song "Just for Now" (2005), after learning of her through a friend. Volpe sent the track to American rapper Lil B; the instrumental is featured on a song of the same name on Lil B's second mixtape, 6 Kiss (2009), containing his vocals. Volpe self-released "I'm God" in 2011 and, in 2012, it appeared on his Instrumentals 2 mixtape. Following years of unsuccessful attempts to clear the sample usage, it was officially released on streaming on April 24, 2020, appearing on Volpe's Instrumental Relics compilation.A cloud rap song, "I'm God" is noted for its ethereal and dream-like aspects. It received a cult following on the Internet, being unofficially reuploaded by fans to social media, including in the form of a music video that incorporates clips from the French film Perdues dans New York (1989). "I'm God" went on to be influential to the cloud rap genre. It was certified gold in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:30 UTC on Thursday, 24 April 2025.For the full current version of the article, see I'm God on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Aria.

She is also an incredible storyteller and takes us on her decade-long relationship journey that's filled triumph, struggles, laughs, and beautiful transformations. HAZL's story takes us into the familiar messy first few years of exploring polyamory where she's learning and unlearning so much about life and who she is. After a few years she found herself in a monogamous partnership that was her safe space and anchor as she gave everything she had to chase her dream of becoming a professional musician. When we last geeked out over Austin’s Felt Out, we broke down their foundation as that of auto-tune innovators on the cutting edge of alt-pop. And following the first anniversary of their second full-length Until I’m Light, that’s clearly still the case for these multi-instrumentalist-producers. Artist Friendly with Joel Madden

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Griff. Griff is a U.K. singer-songwriter who cites Jack Antonoff, Imogen Heap, and James Blake as influences. She played only one show supporting her 2019 EP, Mirror Talk, then created the 2021 LP One Foot In Front of The Other in her bedroom during pandemic lockdowns, which shot her to fame. Now, she's readying the release of her latest single, “miss me too,” which was written in between tours. “I booked a little Airbnb and sent my location to Lostboy and Siba, who I co-wrote ‘Black Hole' with,” she says. “We converted the living room of the cottage into a studio and wrote ‘miss me too.' I had been trying to write a song for a while about losing yourself, and missing a past version of yourself that wasn't so broken.” Listen to their conversation on Artist Friendly wherever you listen to podcasts. On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got a pair of visionary artists who came from different backgrounds but ended up in the same place—sort of. Dawn Richard jumped into the deep end when she auditioned for the reality show Making the Band 3 back in 2004. She made the cut and subsequently became part of the Diddy-manufactured girl group Danity Kane, which hit it pretty big for several years. Richard then formed Dirty Money, which eventually added Diddy himself as a member. But Richard's artistic ambitions went far beyond mainstream pop, and about 10 years ago she leaned into more experimental music—while also filling her time with a vegan food truck, representing brands, and working with Adult Swim. She's often compared to artists like Bjork and Imogen Heap, which makes sense in that she's always surprising her audience. In what seemed like an unusual pairing, she signed with indie powerhouse Merge Records for the universally acclaimed album Second Line. She's subsequently released an album with sonic experimentalist Spencer Zahn, and as you'll hear in this chat, she plans on working with him again. Check out “Babe Ruth,” which is taken from Richard's most recent EP, The Architect. Torres—aka Mackenzie Scott—has also found a home at Merge Records, and her records—powerful, emotional indie-rock with big aspirations—are perhaps more in line with the sound the label was built on. The sixth Torres album just came out, and it's got the best title you'll hear all year: It's called What an Enormous Room, and it's the most expansive set of songs she's ever done, with big hooks and big emotions to match that big title. Torres just kicked off a big tour that'll take Scott and her band around the world this year, so whether you're in Berlin or Boise, you can check them out. And you should. In the meantime, check out “Jerk Into Joy,” a song that Richard loves, as you'll hear in this conversation. Elsewhere in the chat, Scott and Richard talk about whether full albums and bigger concepts can compete with digital singles and instant internet culture, and they get into how running is a vital part of their creative processes. Richard tells Scott that the secret to getting everything done is not sleeping, and they compare church upbringings, and how religious songs left a big impression on both. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Dawn Richard and Mackenzie Scott of Torres for chatting. This month we're back in our current millenium with our favourite songs of 2005 including generous helpings of indie-rock, chamberpop, industrial, synthpop, prog-metal & hiphop. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year. Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) -And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Brendan Benson, The Bravery, Bright Eyes, Broken Social Scene, Clutch, Death Cab For Cutie, Editors, The Fall, Ben Folds, Gogol Bordello, Gojira, Imogen Heap, Malcolm Middleton, Nine Black Alps, Nine Inch Nails, Jim Noir, Opeth, Pernice Brothers, Porcupine Tree, Robyn, Shady Bard, The Spinto Band, Sufjan Stevens, Strapping Young Lad, Matt Sweeney & Bonny Prince Billy, Teenage Fanclub, VNV Nation, The Wedding Present, & Kanye West Ft Jay-Z. Adam is a person in the neighborhood who lived far away for a long time. Although this is all of our first time meeting one another face-to-face, we have a lot in common as far as where we grew up and get to reminisce about Scotty's ferret and french horn. Adam had a hard time contacting our people for his appearance fees and has come prepared with pre-written advertisements to read ON AIR in order to get his payment from three (extremely popular) local businesses. He was however turned down by our own favorite, Boot Barn. Adam moved away from West Michigan to a place called La-La Land and tells us of his adventures rubbing elbows with famous celebrities like [Benji] and the monkey from [Friends]. Adam has never met Sinead O'Connor, Fairuza Balk or Christina Ricci and his offspring refuses to get them on our program. Turns out Adam quit his big fancy corporate job to press a single button for a living and got too meet some sort-of fancy celebrities out in LA. This week's BM Activity is a music list curated by Adam himself. We talk about some of our go-to songs for different feelings and/or emotions in our lives. First up is our HYPE SONG, followed by our HAMMOCK SONG. Heart rate up, heart rate down! Some of us are unsure of our picks and some of us have stories about our song. Truth is that there is no wrong answer when it comes to music. Hear some ELO, VNV Nation and Van Halen! Next up we have our SAD SONG and our ROMANCE SONG. There were some questions about the romance song, whether it should be super sexy or super lovey-dovey but it turns out it didn't really matter because there is no wrong answer when it comes to music!! We get into some Imogen Heap, Fred Astaire and even Lucero. Everyone is different and awesome in their own way and music is just one fun way to tell our own story! We had the pleasure of interviewing Mallrat over Zoom video. Mallrat's prized pop songwriting has become a beacon the Australian music industry will eagerly follow, and on her debut album Butterfly Blue, she embodies the spirit of its titular creature – but without the delicacy that keeps you at a distance. Over a dozen clever and open-hearted tracks, Mallrat – aka Grace Shaw – draws you in close and shows you the world through her wide, hopeful eyes. On Butterfly Blue, a lifetime of collecting influences across genres – from folk, country, and Florence + The Machine to the moody noir pop of Lana Del Rey and Azealia Banks' bold and charismatic hip-hop – come together into one vast and tender debut, a compilation of Shaw's emotions as eclectic and cohesive as those soundtracks she pored over. With combined streams topping 300 million, her trio of early EPs – Uninvited (2016), In The Sky (2018), Driving Music (2019) – are documents of an artist on the rise. In the process of making them, Shaw swapped the Brisbane suburbs for Los Angeles and toured both at home and internationally, including European and North American supports for Maggie Rogers and King Princess, selling out headline shows from London to New York, and collecting fans in the likes of Mark Ronson on the way. Butterfly Blue solidifies Mallrat's reputation as a master of clever, timeless pop. Sweeping across vast, airy production is often surprising samples and sounds tucked under the surface: chopped-up Gangsta Pat bars, a flipped recording of a children's choir performing Lisztomania. Distorted effects were recorded from discarded children's toys – a sonic gift from Clams Casino's producer. Layered, like an instrument all their own, are her signature breathy vocals, more assured than ever, worthy of the same attention and fixation she once applied to Imogen Heap's. Mallrat's journey to become the artist capable of making such an accomplished record has been a fascinating one – to watch and experience. Describing the metamorphosis of her favorite insect, she explains breathlessly: "The transformation they undergo is almost incomprehensible. They dissolve into goo and then reconstruct themselves – but hold onto the memories of their time as a caterpillar." She could just as easily be describing the next phase for Australia's rising pop princess as she prepares to unfurl her wings and show you how she's grown. We want to hear from you!
