Punjabi-American sitar player, songwriter and ambient musician Ami Dang constructs speculative and searing soundscapes, uniting the disparate worlds of Indian classical music and dreamy synth-infused song composition. Her dreamlike work references her hybrid identity as a first-generation South Asian-American, Sikh upbringing, musical education, as well as the chaos and spirituality of the landscapes of both Baltimore and urban India. Following the release of her acclaimed 2019 full-length album, Parted Plains, a few scattered EP's as well as collaborations and tours with the likes of Animal Collective, Beach House and black midi, Ami chats with boxout.fm's Rounak Maiti for another insightful episode of Fresh Out The Box. They talk about her musical upbringing, her unique process of combining Indian traditional music with electronic experimentation, the often problematic categorization of her music, and much more. Delving into music production right from their school years, Udbhav and Kuns met fellow artist and School mate Karun and the three eventually went on to form one of the most flourishing acts in today's Delhi underground scene: Teesri Duniya. The members of the trio have been releasing music both individually and as part of the collective since 2017 and do not show any signs of stopping. While Karun is known for his poetic verses, Udbhav and Kuns dabble in both production and vocals, not shying away from experimentation with different styles. Apart from uniting as Teesri Duniya, all three artists have also had their share of individual projects. Udbhav has most recently dropped the acclaimed album YATI, an experimental multi-genre work that was preceded by the deeply personal Nanku Sharma and surreal Jaadui Ghadi. As a producer and singer-songwriter, Kuns broke out with his 2020 mixtape Kuchh Bandishein. As for Karun, after a slew of ambient singles, last year marked the release of his album Granth. Teesri Duniya does not have a defined sound ranging from fusion to lo-fi-like hip-hop to Hindi pop and so on. The versatile discography distributed across its three members is laden with collaborations with talent spread across the country. Multi-instrumentalist Sid Vashi got Fresh Out The Box right on the cusp of the New Delhi leg of his Azuma Kazuma album launch tour. In conversation with DJ MoCity, Vashi played out the songs on his latest release, and shed light, among other things, on his days in Detroit playing jazz, the experiences that shaped his first album Motherland Tourism, leading into the nitty-gritties of Azuma Kazuma and also the sampling ideologies that seemingly extend to his unique visual aesthetic.

Fresh from Skyharbor's tour of Europe supporting the mighty Deftones, drummer Aditya Ashok aka OX7GEN recently dropped by the boxout fm HQ to discuss, among other things, his involvement in Dasta, his upcoming purely drum ‘n' bass EP and an all-new live set that's in its formative stages. OX7GEN also played out a bunch of tracks from artists he's currently digging from both the home-grown and international scenes.

During a February 2017 visit to India, Jesse aka Tittsworth introduced us to a little-known micro-genre of funk music called Go-go. In conversation with DJ MoCity, Tittsworth charted the roots and evolution of Go-go music in the Washington metropolitan area, and over the course of this two-hour episode, walks us through a selection of essential tracks that have come to shape Go-go today. Jesse closed off with an hour-long mix of his upcoming album Reagan Bombs that's centered around his lifelong love of Go-go music.
