Madame Etiquette is back! Judy and Teresa are full of conjecture about episodes 3-4 of “100 Days My Prince” (100일의 낭군님), a TVN drama starring Do KyungSoo (D.O. from EXO) and Nam JiHyun. We are not neurologists or psychologists, but is it possible for an amnesiac to recognize the source of fancy fabrics at a glance and yet not remember the basic workings of commerce? We need Wondeuk/Crown Prince (Do KyungSoo) to become more likable immediately. Why does Hongshim (Nam JiHyun) get so emotional when she's telling Wondeuk/Crown Prince about their courtship, which she completely made up? This drama is doing that wonky gravity thing, like in "What's Wrong With Secretary Kim?", where people fall on top of each other in ways that make no physical sense. Digressions: 0:33 - Judy's new self-care routine 3:08 - Judy has finally finished "Lawless Lawyer" 4:19 - Teresa has given up on "The Client List" (the Lifetime drama starring Jennifer Love Hewitt). If you want to read a super funny synopsis of the Lifetime original movie, here is the Fug Girls link! 5:53 - Listener E-mails! Some Korean terms: 기생: [gi-seng] Korean term for "geisha"; female entertainer. 푼: [poon] smallest unit of Joseon money; 100 poon = 1 nyang. Of note, Hongshim says that the 30 nyang that Wondeuk took from the loan shark is enough to buy a house. Which hot new Korean drama will get us through the summer? Judy and Teresa watched four new summer dramas! 1:15 - "Lawless Lawyer" (무법변호사) is a TVN drama starring Lee JoonGi and Seo YeJi. Judy was excited by the action scenes and Teresa loves the unfolding of the tragic backstories of the main characters. The two leads also have incredible chemistry and we vow to continue watching this drama. 13:13 - "The Undateables" (훈남정음) is a SBS drama that stars Nam GoongMin and Hwang JungEum. Unfortunately, we found this drama weirdly mean-spirited in making fun of suicide and people who don't fit into certain beauty standards. 29:24 - "About Time" (어바웃타임) is another TVN production, starring Lee SungKyung and Lee SangYoon. The portrayal of anxiety disorders was accurate, but that's about all it had going for it. Judy disliked the male lead immensely. Teresa is annoyed by the contrived use of fate. PSA: Everyone should take a CPR class. 48:05 - "What's Wrong With Secretary Kim?" (김비서가 왜 그럴까) is also from TVN and stars Park MinYoung and Park SeoJoon. Is Judy biased because of her love for Park SeoJoon or is the drama just doing a good job with his narcissistic but lovable character? Teresa loves Secretary Kim's sassy confidence and competence. Also her ponytail is to die for. Is the cat meow a Korean drama trope that Judy just doesn't know about? Tell us! Jessica, Angela, and Tatiana gather to provide an update on their respective obsessions. First, CW's recent Arrowverse seasons are broken down as the highs and lows of Supergirl (0:30), The Flash (12:00), Legends of Tomorrow (26:46), Black Lightning (38:44) and Arrow (47:25) discussed. Then, gushing over recently viewed Kdramas (58:25) commences. Included in the update are oldies but goodies such as Reply 1988, Just Between Lovers, and While You Were Sleeping as well as the newbies Life On Mars, What's Wrong With Secretary Kim, and Are You Human Too. Not to mention the film My Love, My Bride and the stellar Chinese drama Oh My General!
Prepare yourselves for all of the feels! It's Judy and Teresa's special episode of the critically acclaimed TVN series, “Mother” (마더), starring Lee BoYoung, Heo Yool and Lee HyeYoung. This entire episode is full of spoilers, so if you haven't watched "Mother" yet, grab some kleenex and do it already! Teresa could see plot twists coming from a mile away but still found them intriguing. Judy revels in the melodrama, which allows her to be thankful for the lack of drama in her own life. As beautiful and well-crafted as this drama was, it could not escape from the Penultimate Week Curse. *shake fist* Next week, we'll be releasing a "First Impressions" episode featuring "What's Wrong With Secretary Kim?", "The Undateables", "About Time" and "Lawless Lawyer". Which one will we pick? Were there jokes this week? Judy and Teresa cackle in disbelief at episodes 19-20 of “Go Go Waikiki” (으라차차 와이키키), a JTBC drama starring Kim JungHyun, Lee YiKyung, Song SeungWon, Jung InSun, Go WonHee and Lee JooWoo. Judy mourns the loss of Hyunjoon (Kang KyungJoon), who was replaced (?!?!) by the blandest love rival, "Sol's dad", whose name we can't even be bothered to look up. Teresa just wants Donggoo (Kim JungHyun) to GTFO already and go to Dubai. Next week, we will be doing a special episode about "Mother" starring Lee BoYoung and Heo Yool. Then we have a "First Impressions" episode featuring "What's Wrong With Secretary Kim?", "The Undateables", "About Time" and "Lawless Lawyer". Digressions: 9:48 - David's interesting fashion choices for videogame characters 21:02 - Another one of Judy's secrets revealed! Some Korean terms: 봉산탈춤: [bong-san-tal-choom] a traditional Korean masked dance; dancers have long white sleeves which inspires Sooah; click here to watch a clip of this dance! 우유빛깔: [oo-yoo-bit-kkal] literally "milky colour"; one uses this as a prefix to celebrity names as chants to praise their clear skin; for example, Judy might yell out "우유빛깔 박서준!" if she saw Park SeoJoon in the street. Andrea and Tiff from It Started With a K-Drama launch their first podcast geared towards all things Asian dramas. Sound the Penultimate Week alarm! Judy and Teresa are absolutely exhausted by episodes 17-18 of “Go Go Waikiki” (으라차차 와이키키), a JTBC drama starring Kim JungHyun, Lee YiKyung, Song SeungWon, Jung InSun, Go WonHee and Lee JooWoo. Judy defies anyone to tell her that they feel love when they're watching Yoonah (Jung InSun) and Donggoo (Kim JungHyun) on the screen together. Teresa is extremely tired during recording, probably from rolling her eyes so hard. For Judy, the one bright point in these two episodes was being reminded of '90s NBC sitcom, "Frasier" and wishing she could be watching that instead. Who could have foreseen that Sooah (Lee JooWoo) and Doosik (Song SeungWon) would end up being our favourite couple? When we're done talking about "Go Go Waikiki", we will be doing a special episode about "Mother" starring Lee BoYoung and Heo Yool. Then we have a "First Impressions" episode featuring "What's Wrong With Secretary Kim?", "The Undateables", "About Time" and "Lawless Lawyer". Contact us if you have any preferences! Digressions: 12:15 - Our fear of bodily fluids 17:59 - Don't read reddit late at night 42:17 - Public confessions, yay or nay Some Korean terms: 아빠: [a-ppa] "daddy". 진주: [jin-joo] pearl. 미간 좀 펴: [mi-gan-jom-pyeo] Audio credits: Elton John – Lion King – “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” "Frasier" Season 2, Episode 21 – “An Affair to Forget” Bernard Herrmann – Vertigo - "Vertigo Theme" Please send any questions, comments or suggestions on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (@kdramamyeyesout) or e-mail us (kdramamyeyesout(at)gmail.com).
