Can God’s love really be this good—or is that just sentimental fantasy? In this episode of Perspectives with Catherine Toon, Catherine goes straight into the heart of a jaded, skeptical age and shows how God’s love is actually the most realistic thing in the universe. Drawing from John 18, John 1, John 17, John 6, Hebrews 4, and the parable of the sower in Matthew 13, she explores how truth (aletheia) is not just a concept, but a Person—Jesus—who comes full of grace and truth to bring spiritual healing to our wounded, distrustful hearts. When life has been brutal, “realism” can start to look like cynicism: we call it wisdom, but inside we’ve lost wonder, childlikeness, and the ability to hope. Catherine gently exposes how unbelief, jadedness, and skepticism are heart conditions, not moral failures—and how they keep us from experiencing God, hearing His voice, and stepping into the spiritual transformation we’re actually hungry for. She unpacks the different “soils” of the heart: hardened paths, shallow gravel, thorny distractions, and finally good, rich soil that receives the seed of God’s word and bears real fruit. You’ll discover how seeing God as punisher wrecks mental health, while seeing Him as He truly is—Healer, Lover, Truth Himself—brings freedom, sanity, and joy. This is about identity in Christ and learning to be teachable again, to trade “I’ve seen it all” for blissful eyes and delighted ears that can receive fresh revelation in a skeptical world. Practical takeaway: Ask Holy Spirit to highlight one area where you’ve become jaded, skeptical, or shut down. Write it down, and pray: “Jesus, I believe—help my unbelief. Heal this part of my heart and make it good soil for Your truth.” Revisit this with Him over the coming days and notice what begins to soften. Part two of this month’s new release series is centered around a pretty diverse set of tracks from our friends at Rum Bar Records. Veteran Minneapolis rockers High On Stress opens the proceedings with two retrospective tracks from their new EP, and then we have the b-side of the debut Rum Bar release by legendary actor/musician/DJ Michael Des Barres! There’s also the classic R&B sounds of Angela Tini (recorded by Deke Dickerson!), the punk-ish power of Inflatable Idols and The Spackles before concluding with a frantic cover of The Barracudas “I Can’t Pretend” by Gene Champagne. There’s plenty of other Ledge friends, including fellow South Dakotans Friends of Cesar Romero, Brad Marino, Phil Cook & the Fall Dogs, Ricky Rochelle, and so much more. Plus, a ton of great new Australian bands that I didn’t realize were dominating the second half of the show until I was looking up biographical details. What tracks did you enjoy the most? Patrick and his partner Rachel are processing an arrest when a bloodcurdling scream echoes from the front lobby: "Help! God is a God of abundance, not scarcity—and His love is big enough to touch every place you fear not having enough. In this episode of Perspectives with Catherine Toon, Catherine continues her Made for Abundance series, speaking straight into the pain of lack, fear, and the belief that God is stingy or withholding. Catherine unpacks how perfect God’s love casts out fear, how scarcity is a result of the fall—not God’s heart—and how Paul could learn to be content in both abundance and lack because he was rooted in an unshakable Source. From Psalm 36’s “fatness of Your house” and the “river of Your pleasures” to the imagery of Eden’s rivers of delight, Catherine shows that we were always designed to live from overflowing fullness in God. You’ll hear how God never cursed humanity—curse is a consequence of disconnecting from Life, not a punishment from divine anger. Lack, fear, and death-thinking are “hellish concepts” God is actively transforming into an inner Garden of Eden in you. As you awaken to your identity in Christ as a co-heir, you begin to drink deeply of His goodness, learning to trust Him as Source instead of clinging to stuff, hoarding resources, or worshiping lack. Catherine also breaks down how true abundance isn’t greed or prosperity-obsession—it’s spiritual transformation and spiritual healing at the level of how you see God, yourself, and provision. From the “fatness of His house” to rivers of Eden flowing within, this is about experiencing God as lavishly kind, playful, and faithful in every area of your life—including your finances and other tangible areas of your life. Practical takeaway: Ask Holy Spirit: “Where have I believed You are withholding from me?” Write down one lie about lack you’ve carried, then replace it with truth: “In Christ, I live from Your abundance, not from scarcity. You are my Source.” If this episode blesses you, please like, subscribe, comment, and share it with someone wrestling with provision or fear of not enough. EPISODE 673 - Mary Alice Stephens - UNCORKED - Getting sober is one thing, staying sober anotherMary Alice Stephens is a creative nonfiction storyteller. As a television writer-producer for HGTV, Food Network, and other media outlets, she shared others' stories on everything from outdoor adventures to home improvement. Now, in her debut book, Uncorked -- an Amazon #1 New Release in both Alcoholism Recovery and Midlife Self-Help -- Mary shares her own powerful story of alcoholism, recovery, and starting life anew at 45. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Dominican University of California and resides in Northern California. When not writing, she can often be found cyber-stalking her teens, planning her family's next adventure, or searching for her elusive phone.Book: Uncorked: A Memoir of Letting Go and Starting OverGetting sober is one thing, staying sober another…With a glorious bang, alcohol freed Mary Stephens from her lonely, self-critical teenage shell and fueled Fun Mary. For three decades, booze had been her best friend, the reliable spark igniting good times and (she thought) good friendships. But Fun Mary had a dark side: debilitating hangovers, blackouts, and perilous behavior. Not even a three-story fall that left her in a body cast could stop her from drinking. But finally, after putting her young son in danger and her marriage in jeopardy, Fun Mary had to go.Now sober at age 45, everything Mary once cherished becomes a trigger—date nights with her husband, friendships centered around wine, and a father who expresses his love through alcohol. This new Sober Mary is lonely and vulnerable—feelings she drank to escape. Now what?Told with heart and humor, Uncorked: A Memoir of Letting Go and Starting Over is the inspiring and relatable story of a woman's pursuit of a better life through sobriety.About the AuthorMary Alice Stephens is a creative nonfiction storyteller. Life does not always fall apart in neat, Instagram-worthy ways.Sometimes it blindsides you. Sometimes it knocks the air out of you. Sometimes it leaves your nervous system spinning and your mind searching for answers. In this episode I break down what coaching actually does for you when life kicks you in the junk — not by avoiding pain, but by helping you stay self-led inside of it.I share how I personally navigated a recent season I did not ask for, and the exact mindset and emotional tools that made it possible to stay grounded, connected, and clear when nothing felt easy. This episode is not about positive thinking or fixing yourself. It is about learning how to work with your thoughts and emotions instead of letting them run your life.In this episode, we talk about:Why painful experiences do not mean you are doing life wrongHow coaching helps you stay self-led during hard seasonsThe difference between facts and the stories your brain tellsWhy “neutral” does not mean harmless or okayHow to observe your thoughts and emotions without being consumed by themWhy mindset work does not mean avoiding hard feelingsHow to feel emotions safely instead of suppressing or fixing themThe difference between respecting a thought and agreeing with itWhy not every thought deserves your obedienceThe powerful question that brings you back to yourself when everything feels confusingKey takeaway:You do not need to eliminate hard thoughts or emotions to move forward. You need the ability to stay with yourself, supervise your mind, and choose how you respond — one situation, one thought, one feeling, one choice at a time. That is what coaching builds.Resources:Free Feelings Video + Worksheet: Click HERE to grab it.Jessica's book, In Pursuit Order my #1 New Release book In PursuitGet your complimentary copy of The Unblocked Journal to help bring awareness to perfectionist thinking and what it's creating in your life.Join My Do The Thing Community Want more support? If this episode resonated with you and you want deeper, personalized support, you can learn more about working with me at jessicasmarro.comStay connected:Follow me on Facebook & Instagram: @jessicasmarroShare this episode and tag me with what landed for youIf you enjoyed today's conversation, please follow, rate, and review Unblocked. One of the few “rules” of the monthly new release series is that reissues aren’t generally considered for inclusion in these shows. But this is rock and roll, and there’s no real rules…especially when a former member of The Replacements is concerned. This story actually begins a few weeks ago when I saw a notice in Record Collector that there would be some sort of Slim Dunlap compilation coming out in February. A few days later, another UK music mag reported that this package would include remastered versions of his two albums PLUS bonus tracks! Then came the official announcement. Every Little Word indeed consists of both of his wonderful solo albums, plus another 80 minutes of bonus material! Yes, this is a set worth breaking my rules, so we start the show off with five of these rarities. After that it’s a typical new release episode. There’s plenty of “friends of the show”, including Numb Surprise, The Ex-Bombers, Rob Moss, and a double shot of Vista Blue. Speaking of double shots, there are previews of new albums by The Darts (US) and UltraBomb, along with great new albums by Sweet Reaper and Music City. What tracks did you dig […]

You were made for abundance—not for a life driven by fear, lack, or spiritual hustle. In this episode of Perspectives with Catherine Toon, Catherine unpacks what it really means that God is a God of abundance, not poverty or greed, and how that changes the way you see provision, prosperity, and your own heart. So much of the Church has swung between extremes: the “prosperity gospel” that idolizes material wealth, and the religious poverty mindset that treats lack as holy. Catherine goes back to Genesis to reveal God’s original design: humanity placed in the Garden of Delight, blessed, fruitful, and commissioned to reign as lovers and blessers, not as fearful strivers. She shows how the fall twisted our perception of God as Source, how Adam turned to “the ground” as his source, and how that introduced toil, thorns, and a mindset of scarcity. Through passages in Genesis 1–2, Psalm 1, and the imagery of Eden’s four rivers—overflowing increase, gushing, swift-flowing, and fruitfulness - Catherine paints a vivid picture of God’s love as extravagantly generous and endlessly creative. Abundance isn’t about hoarding stuff; it’s about living in union with the One who “richly gives us all things to enjoy,” and letting that overflow into the world around us. You’ll be invited to let go of any ditch you find yourself in - and come back to your true identity in Christ as a beloved son or daughter, designed to carry rivers of living water to a creation groaning for freedom. This is spiritual transformation and spiritual healing at the level of how you see God, yourself, and provision itself. If this episode speaks to you, hit like, subscribe, and share it with someone wrestling with provision, prosperity, or shame around money. In this episode of Gateways to Awakening, I sit down with Robert Lee Camp, leading authority on the ancient science of the cards and author of the best-selling book Love Cards and Cards of Your Destiny. Robert has spent more than three decades researching, teaching, and translating this once-hidden system into a practical tool for modern life.Together, we explore what “destiny cards” actually are, why a standard deck of playing cards mirrors the calendar year with uncanny mathematical precision, and how this system works as a form of spiritual psychology that is both predictive and deeply revealing. Robert shares the lineage of the work through his teacher Arnie Lean, and traces the system back through historical sources such as Olney Richmond's The Mystic Test Book, including the idea that the cards were used as an esoteric framework for understanding fate, karma, and human nature. Big thank you to our mutual friend, Jen Hill, for the introduction! To explore your own cards and receive a free introduction, visit cardsofyourdestiny.comIn this episode, you'll learn:- Why a deck of cards mirrors Earth's calendar (52 weeks, 13 lunar cycles, 4 seasons, 365 days).- What destiny cards are and how your birthday mathematically determines your cards.- The difference between a birth card, planetary ruling card, and decanate ruling card.- Why the Ace of Spades is considered the symbolic “key” of the system.- How karma cards work, and what they reveal about past patterns and current growth edges.- How the four suits map to life stages: hearts (relationships), clubs (knowledge), diamonds (values), and spades (work and mastery).- Why relationship dynamics can be one of the greatest spiritual initiations in a lifetime.- How to use the system to reflect on your past, navigate your present, and forecast what is ahead.Tune in to Gateways to Awakening for more conversations with leading thinkers, creators, and spiritual pioneers shaping the future of consciousness.
