About This Episode: 2025 Top 10 Films - Ep 380: New Year, New Normies, Last Year's Best of Lists! We count down our Top 10 Films of 2025, the movies that lived rent-free in our heads long after the credits rolled. We're breaking down what made 2025 such a memorable year at the movies, and it's certainly not the other theater goers that keep us showing up to the theater. Grab some popcorn and argue along with our hot takes and last ditch efforts at recommending hidden gems. Agree with us? Probably not—and that's half the fun! Somehow heartbreak feels good in a Normie like this. @Normies_Like_Us https://www.instagram.com/normies_like_us/ @jacob https://www.instagram.com/_j__a___c___o__b_/ @Mike_Has_Insta https://www.instagram.com/mike_has_insta/ https://letterboxd.com/BabblingBrooksy/ https://letterboxd.com/hobbes72/ https://letterboxd.com/mikejromans/
What if students' “attention problems” were really a mismatch between how the brain works and how we structure learning? In this episode of Aspire to Lead, Joshua Stamper talks with first grade teacher, cognitive science scholar, and author Sarah Oberle about what executive functions actually are, core and higher order cognitive processes like working memory, inhibition, and cognitive flexibility, and why they are so often misunderstood as behaviors in schools.Sarah describes how explosive development in these skills during the K–3 years should shape our pedagogy, from how we orient attention and chunk directions to how we design routines, structure independent work, and set up the physical and acoustic environment so students can think instead of just “look busy”. Drawing from her upcoming book with Mitch Weathers, she shares concrete classroom moves—mini check ins, EF informed routines, visual and sound management, and tools like dividers and voice recorders—that any teacher can use to promote self regulation and learning without adding another program to their plate.About Sarah Oberle Sarah Oberle is an educator, writer, and professional learning designer with 18 years of experience as a primary classroom teacher. Her work centers on helping educators understand how learning happens and how that understanding shapes daily instructional decisions. Beyond the classroom, Sarah designs and facilitates evidence-informed professional learning for teachers and school leaders, both in person and virtually. She works with national and international organizations to ensure professional learning is research-informed, practical, and responsive to the realities of teaching. Her work focuses on attention, memory, and executive functions, with an emphasis on pedagogy rather than programs. We caught up with unique indie artist Robert Deeble to talk about his new release “The Space Between Us” coming out February 6th. Roberts story driven lyrics and production have a classic vibe with a modern twist. Robert Deeble's spirit-infused lyrics are paired with a subtle, minimalist style that echoes old folk heroes like Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake. His first album, released with his band, Days Like These, was a critical success and featured a duet with Victoria Williams, "Rock A Bye." Days Like These never performed outside of the L.A. area and disbanded soon after their first release. His second album, a solo effort entitled Earthside Down, was released in 1998 and featured the production work of Anthony Arvizu and Stephen Hodges (best known for his drum work with Tom Waits). They helped augment Deeble's spare sound with cellos, timpani, gongs, and electronic elements, creating a sound that treads a line between folk and ambient music. ~ Stacia Proefrock, Rovi Robert's links www.hyperfollow.com/RobertDeeble www.Youtube.com/@Robert.deeble About Music Matters with Darrell Craig Harris The Music Matters Podcast is hosted by Darrell Craig Harris, a globally published music journalist, professional musician, and Getty Images photographer. Feeling unworthy, disqualified, or “too much”? In this episode, Dr. Catherine Toon reveals how God’s love has already named you worthy—and why your deepest dreams still matter to Him. In part two of the God’s Dreams, Your Dreams: Is God That Good? series, Catherine goes after the religious lie that you have a “sinful nature” and shows from Scripture that your true identity in Christ is rooted in original innocence, not original sin. Before the foundation of the world, God chose you, joined Himself to you, and marked you with love (Ephesians 1:4; 2 Timothy 1:9–10). You’re not an accident, and you’re not an afterthought—you are the “poema” of God (Ephesians 2:10), His handcrafted poetry and the very fabric of His delight. Walking through Romans 8:28–30, Catherine unpacks what it really means to be foreknown, predestined, called, justified, and glorified—not as a harsh sorting of who’s in and who’s out, but as the revelation of a God who refuses to abandon His kids. This is spiritual healing at the root level: God dismantles shame, exposes the voice of accusation, and invites you into spiritual transformation by awakening you to who you’ve always been in Him. You’ll discover how a playful, dancing God (Proverbs 8) has always delighted in you; how He planted desires, destiny, and good works in you to walk out; and how discovering your identity in God frees you from the torment of unworthiness and overcoming spiritual shame. As you agree with God’s verdict over you—beloved, holy, worthy—you begin to live like it, and sin loses its grip. What if the strongest leaders in your school are already in classrooms, waiting for permission to step up? In this week's episode of Aspire to Lead, Joshua Stamper reconnects with longtime friend and former Teach Better teammate Brad Hughes, elementary principal in Ontario, Canada, to explore how aspiring leaders can build confidence, prepare for interviews, and maintain personal and professional balance without rushing into formal roles. God’s love is better than you’ve been told—and His goodness is the key to your God-given dreams. In this powerful episode of Perspectives with Catherine Toon, Catherine dismantles religious lies about God and reveals a Father who only gives good and perfect gifts, never evil or punishment in disguise. So many of us have been taught to fear our desires, to distrust our hearts, and to wonder if God is secretly against us. Catherine walks us through James 1 and other key scriptures to show that God is never the source of temptation, shame, or destruction—He is the Father of lights, with no shadow of turning. From there, she explores how our true identity in Christ is good, holy, and beloved, even while we’re still a “work in process.” You’ll hear how sin is really a distorted image problem that leads to behaviors that bring death—but your original design in Christ is untouched, rooted in eternal love. Out of that identity, God has planted dreams in you that reflect His heart. He actually wants you to enjoy life, to experience heaven on earth, and to walk in spiritual transformation as you partner with Him. Catherine also shares how a playful, dancing God (Proverbs 8) delights in you, gives you “richly all things to enjoy,” and invites you into a lifestyle of experiencing God in everyday desires, choices, and dreams. This isn’t performance-based religion—it’s awakened sonship and daughterhood. Practical takeaway: Ask Holy Spirit to highlight one deep desire you’ve secretly doubted. Write it down, renounce the lie that God is against it, and pray: “Father, let Your kingdom come and Your will be done in this area of my life.” Then listen for how He wants to walk it out with you. Every January, as we ring in the new year, we take a moment to take a look at some of the major new releases of the holiday season. This year, Film Comment Editors Devika Girish and Clinton Krute invited critics Beatrice Loayza and Mark Asch to focus on a select handful of titles that have recently graced the marquees of multiplexes, and which continue to stir up discourse. The group kicks things off with a deep dive into James Cameron's latest 3D space opera, Avatar: Fire and Ash (4:00), before turning their attention to another epic, Josh Safdie's Marty Supreme (33:34)—which both Beatrice and Mark have written great essays on in recent weeks. They also touch on James L. Brooks's Ella McCay (51:15), which Mark reviewed for Film Comment just last week.

In this episode, I'm trying something new. This is the first Ask Me Anything episode under the new 2026 format, and I'm answering real, anonymous questions submitted on Instagram. I talk about how to navigate the gap between the life you imagined and the life you're living. I walk through how I use the STEAR model to separate neutral facts from the stories we tell ourselves, and how unexamined thoughts can quietly turn grief into suffering.I also answer questions about feeling stuck, fulfillment in your career, redefining success, and one belief I had to unlearn in order to truly help others. If you have a question you'd like answered in a future Ask Me Anything episode, I invite yours today. Send me a DM @jessicasmarro on Instagram or Facebook, or send your questions to jessica@jessicasmarro.com. If you’ve ever felt far from God, afraid you’ll “miss His will,” or exhausted by a transactional, try-harder Christianity, this conversation will minister deep healing. In this episode of Perspectives with Catherine Toon, Catherine and returning guest Jason Clark (Rethinking God with Tacos) dive into the tender, transformative truth that love is the long game—and that the lie of separation is losing its grip. Together, we talk about: - Why the message of God’s love is surging globally—and why it’s setting people free - Healing religious trauma rooted in “distance,” fear, and performance - Union with Christ (not striving) as the foundation for identity in Christ and spiritual healing - Obedience as a gift that matures us into love (not a fear-based scoreboard) - The difference between boundaries that heal vs. control that crushes - How Papa/Jesus/Holy Spirit leads you in peace, intimacy, and real freedom Connect with Jason Clark Website: AFamilyStory.org Community: Rethinking God with Tacos (Facebook) Podcast: “Rethinking God with Tacos”, most major platforms YouTube: @Rethinking God with Tacos “Rethinking God with Tacos BOOK” available on Amazon If this blessed you: • Subscribe for more conversations on God’s love, identity in Christ, and inner healing • Share this with a friend who needs hope today • Explore Catherine’s resources & community for next-step support Exhausted and worn out? This episode is a personal reflection and reset. I'm looking back on 2025 through the lens of my word of the year, unimaginable, and sharing what surprised me most, what stretched me, and what I'm genuinely proud of. I also pull back the curtain on what's changing as I head into 2026. You'll hear how I'm rethinking the structure and rhythm of the Unblocked podcast.I share my new word of the year for 2026 and what it means for how I want to live, create, and lead moving forward. I talk about holding goals lightly, following the next right step even when the path is unclear, and choosing growth because of who you become along the way. This episode is an invitation to reflect on your own year, notice what you created and how you created it, celebrate yourself more fully, and to step into what's next with curiosity instead of pressure. If you're feeling called to pause, reset, and move forward with more intention, this conversation is for you.Click HERE to watch this episode on YouTube. If this episode resonated with you, please share it with a friend, leave a review, or tag me on IG with your biggest takeaway.
