The first few months of President Trump's second term have been chaotic, to say the least. There have been an unprecedented number of executive actions that have triggered an equally impressive number lawsuits; a new government “department,” headed by the world's richest man and launched via executive order, that ousted nearly a quarter of a million government workers; and a global trade war. Trump and his cabinet have been crowing about these achievements, but his approval ratings for the first 100 days are abysmal — tied for last place, with himself. Kara speaks to three Washington insiders about what this all means for the next 100 days, whether we'll see rollbacks or more full steam ahead, what role Congress will play, and what the potential long-term fallout could be. Our guests are: Carol Leonnig, an investigative reporter at The Washington Post. She's written three best-selling books, including two she co-authored about the first Trump presidency: A Very Stable Genius and I Alone Can Fix It. Ashley Parker, a staff writer at The Atlantic. Previously, Ashley spent eight years at The Washington Post, where she covered Trump's first presidency, President Biden's first two years in office, and the 2024 presidential campaign. Ben Terris, a Washington correspondent for New York Magazine. He is the author of The Big Break: The Gamblers, Party Animals, and True Believers Trying to Win in Washington While America Loses Its Mind and a former feature reporter covering national politics for The Washington Post. In this episode, we unpack the immediate domestic effects, declining global perceptions, and economic instability marked by reduced tourism and capital flight. We draw connections between Trump's actions and Project 2025, a conservative blueprint for reshaping government, despite his public denial of involvement. Then, Mike Waltz has left the chat! But he has entered the nomination for the Ambassador to the United Nations. Is there literally nothing a Trump loyalist can do to actually get fired by a guy who literally made “You're Fired” a personal catch phrase? Next Trump and Republicans are almost comically unserious about handling the scourge of gun violence that has plagued this country for essentially the entirety of the time both of us have been on the planet, and they're still managing to find time to screw over American veterans while they do nothing about guns. And  finally we zoom in on our home state of Colorado as Republican politicians try to get Democratic politicians arrested; dark money comms organizations that aren't really think tanks finally get called out by the local press; and while the trade war makes everything dumber and more expensive, one American export is really picking up steam. We have now seen Donald Trump through the first 100 days of his second term and what we have witnessed has been a horrifying attack on our constitutional democracy. It is sad to have to admit that the clowns are now running the circus but what is more frightening is that our nation may not survive the Trump administration with either our constitution or our democracy intact. We cannot just avoid talking about politics and hope that everything will be ok. We are in danger and there are no hoofbeats of a coming cavalry coming to save us. On Friday's Mark Levin Show, WJNO's Brian Mudd fills in for Mark.  Don't play the left's fear game – President Trump will not fail you on the economy. Some people were panicking after Trump's Liberation Day, but you need to trust the process and stay calm. Ask yourself: Do you believe in this country? Do you believe the country will be better off by the end of Trump's presidency? If you answer yes to both, the current challenges are easier to navigate. This is a temporary situation. The left complains that shelves will be empty, yet we have more inventory today than a year ago. Trump's Great Reset is underway, fundamentally reshaping how America and trade operate. We ended this week, a month removed from Liberation Day, and the S&P traded higher than prior to the tariff announcements. The stock market is on a winning streak and now China wants to work on a trade deal. Also, Trump's next 100 days will define the Trump presidency. Trump is compressing four years of action into four months. The results will unfold over the next 100 days, revealing how America is being made great again. Trump's big, beautiful bill is the most important thing to get passed. It encapsulates his entire agenda in one package. Getting a permanent policy in place is critical. Finally, Pope Francis' passing is an inflection point for Christianity and the world. Pope Francis advocated for the left's social constructs. There's no room for progressivism in Catholicism. The good news: Trump's second term has already hit historic levels of unpopularity. The bad news: we're still only 100 days into it. The White House marks this milestone by bragging about its record on immigration and defending the arrest of a Wisconsin judge and the deportation of three very young American citizens, ages 2, 4, and 7. Jon, Lovett, and Tommy reflect on where the country stands at the 100-day mark and take stock of the opposition—as Democrats, media outlets, universities, and even some law firms all ratchet up their efforts to push back. Then, Dan sits down with Neera Tanden, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress and a former top advisor to Joe Biden and Barack Obama, about the unique dangers of Trump and his allies, and how to defend against them.
