Jeanie Chang of Noona's Noonchi chats with DJ Chuang about how the Christmas holidays is the annual tradition that gathers family together physically but sometimes it's not the smoothest sleigh ride in town. How can being family time be a better opportunity for meaningful conversations and growing healthy relationships rather than steering into family drama? That's what we talk about, having bite-sized morsels of intentional thoughts shared with kindness and firmness that have the potential to grow over time into the quality time, joy, and appreciation for the people we belong with in family. https://youtu.be/MmfYnIpbYz4 Show Notes Noona's Noonchi noonasnoonchi.com • "a deep dive of your favorite K-Dramas from a mental health perspective" Connect with Jeanie Chang at Your Change Provider yourchangeprovider.com • speaker, therapist, author Jeanie Chang's book "A is for Authentic: Not for Anxieties or for Straight A's" https://amzn.to/3v9EDBf How Korean Culture Went Global on NPR's Thoughtline npr.org/2022/09/06/1121364712/how-korean-culture-went-global

A K-Pop homage this episode is indeed! It was a lot of fun speaking with Haley Yang, K-Culture reporter for media outlet, Korea Joongang Daily. We reflect on the history of K-Pop around the world and how K-Culture is making its mark! Join us as we take a trip down K-Pop memory lane from its start and origins to Psy's Gangnam Style to Exo and BTS, and where we are now. Of course we also talk K-Dramas! You can watch this podcast on the Noona's Noonchi YouTube channel.
There's really no need to justify how K-Dramas can benefit our lives! TikTok content creator Jane Park says K-Dramas like Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) helped improve communication with her husband. Jane is a popular TikToker, well known for documenting her life as a Korean American mother of two. She did a TikTok last year talking about racism with her kids which went viral and that's how we got to know each other. We both spoke about anti-Asian racism on an on-air news segment nearly a year ago. I've been a huge fan of hers since! Join us for this fun chat between two Korean American mothers bonding over K-Dramas and K-Culture. You can also watch this episode on the Noona's Noonchi YouTube Channel.

Welcome to my last episode of Noona's Noonchi's podcast season 1! Can't think of a better way to end by getting unplugged with Beauty Unplugged's Sophia - @beauty_unplugged. Join us for a beauty of a conversation on forgiveness and K-Dramas like Something in the Rain and Hometown Cha Cha Cha. Plus, I finally found someone around my age who loves the 1992 K-Drama "Jealousy" with the cute actress Choi Jin-sil who I adored. Sadly, she died by suicide in 2008 so her K-Dramas are even more special to me. Try to watch her K-Dramas if you can. They are classic! Imagine bonding with someone over a K-Drama you love and you become like BFFs, right? That's exactly what I mean when I talk about having a sense of belonging in our K-Drama world! I 'met' my next podcast guest, Katherine Bourne Taylor on IG via a K-Drama chat group. We totally bonded over Hometown Cha Cha Cha and started our own thread just to talk about it while it was airing. It was super cool to hear her angle as an actor, director, producer on K-Dramas like Goblin, Hometown Cha Cha Cha, and more! Join us for a fun conversation on my latest podcast episode: "K-Drama Kit and Caboodle with Katherine Bourne Taylor." What's more fun than a Noona's Noonchi deep dive? A Noona's Noonchi podcast deep dive with one of the original Asian American podcasters! Ken Fong, host of "Asian America: The Ken Fong Podcast'" joins us for this next podcast episode! Squid Game Sensations. Join us as we talk pathology, capitalism, and of course how 'disturbing' this #1 Netflix show is. Yes, it's the most talked about K-Drama ever, but still gotta admit Squid Game wasn't easy to digest. You can also watch the podcast on our YouTube channel. So, how 'disturbing' was Squid Game for you? Podcast Guest: Ken is widely recognized as one of the original Asian American podcasters. His “Asian America: The Ken Fong Podcast” has garnered a national and global audience since 2015, and he has interviewed well over 300 Asian American culture-makers and -shapers. Before retiring in 2017, he helped pastor a very impactful English-speaking pan-Asian American church in the LA area. #kdramas #squidgame #leejungjae #junghoyeon #parkhaesoo #netflix #netflixkr #subscribe #youtube #koreandrama #kdrama #leebyunghun #gongyoo #capitalism #pathology
Show Notes Ep 229 of Australian True Crime with Meshel Laurie and Emily WebbWell I've said it before and I'll say it again, some of the best people I've ever met have been to prison. Here's another one. Catherine from Horsham went to jail, and she's thoroughly lovely, in fact, I bet you can totally relate to her. I'm a bit delirious with our endless lockdown I have to admit. I don't think I'm ever going to be released from my home or ever hug another adult again. I'd probably love this if it was a book but this as a life sucks a big bag of dicks. It was very nice to zoom with Catherine. Our poor guests. Do you think they realise how desperate I am for their company? Anyway. All my love to you. I'll go and have another conversation with my dog now. What do K-Dramas bring you? JOY! Especially K-Drama rom coms. That's what aspiring writer Elle Houston @kdramasarethebest101 exclaims after discovering K-Dramas earlier this year. She first learned about them from one of her fav writers who loved, 'What's Wrong with Secretary Kim.' So, Elle decided to check it out and loved it. But then, she went on to Boys Over Flowers and she fell in love....with Kim Hyun-joong (step aside Lee Min-ho)! Check out our latest podcast episode: K-Drama JOY with Elle Houston. It is indeed a JOYful conversation! You can also watch our podcast on the Noona's Noonchi YouTube channel.
The United States initiates the War on Terror in response to 9/11, starting with Afghanistan and then moving seamlessly into Iraq, despite the disconnect. Historian Dr. Huma Gupta helps us understand Afghanistan's relationship with the U.S. pre-9/11 and its history of being a World Power staging ground. We meet Bashir Ahmad, who shares his experience joining the National Guard after being kicked out of college for smoking weed a few days before the attacks. The concept of identity is broken down by Rania Mustafa, including the conflicted, parallel, and integrated forms, and we look back at why Shahjehan and many American Muslims constantly found themselves grappling with the former at this time. Arriving at college—as his mother weeps—only perpetuates Shahjehan's highs and lowest low, and he makes a nearly fatal decision one night. The Khan family tells us about participating in a peaceful, nearly million-strong anti-war protest in New York City, leading to a disturbing reveal from Noona. We review the costs of the still-current War on Terror—in dollars spent, millions displaced, and hundreds of thousands of lives lost.Learn more about the people and topics in this episode on our listening guide.Check out the Rifelion blog. Interviewing folks for the Noona's Noonchi podcast is so affirming! But what's even more affirming is having your guests/viewers affirm the concepts you talk about. In this episode, Alex San Diego, Chief Marketing Officer of Asian Mental Health Collective (AMHC) where Noona's Noonchi is President and Board Chair, shares fondly how Jeong is shown in K-Dramas, which she of course absolutely loves! In fact, she studied concepts like Jeong in school and wants to do more to promote them through research and her work. You can also watch our podcast on our YouTube Channel!
What do you get when you combine Gong Yoo and Lee Je Hoon? A fabulously fun K-Drama podcast interview with the ultimate podcaster Sheena Yap Chan! She does some major shout-outs to her fav K-Dramas like Goblin and Taxi Driver or anything with Lee Je Hoon in it! Like a lot of folks, Sheena went down a rabbit hole during the pandemic discovering K-Dramas. She enjoys the depth of storytelling and talks about how she learned more about expressing emotions, which she connects directly to mental health. Great correlation! As an Energetic healer, it's possible for me to heal people from afar if they are unwell mentally. I was born with a God-Mind, which means I'm multitalented like your member Min Yoongi (Suga) and naturally leaned into telling my bias about an energetic feeling I got when I saw his music video and looked into his eyes. I have a few friends like this and have a soft spot for guys like him. I could energetically feel that he wasn't feeling good and has slipped into starvation mode. I'm also in starvation mode because of stress. There has to be a reason he doesn't celebrate birthdays, I'm curious if he was able to do introspection about how much work he could be doing during this time. I haven't watched the episodes of Run BTS because he hasn't been present. This was really nice to see you guys in concert. Would definitely come to see you live! When will that be in New York?
Asian American therapist Jeanie Chang and co-host DJ Chuang have a mock counseling session to show people what happens, demystifying psychological benefits, and that there's nothing to be anxious or afraid of when someone vulnerably shares their inner thoughts in a safe place and in confidentiality. Counseling is a very helpful resource to process emotions, feelings, and thoughts in a healthy way that reduces stress and other symptoms that hold people back from a better quality of life. Managing mental health increases one's happiness in life so one can go from surviving to thriving. This lady is EXACTLY what this podcast was created for.. to expose people to Top Talent..and SANGAH NOONA is IT! Originally from South Korea, and now living in the Washington D.C. area, Sangah shows us how she has mastered the’88’s on YouTube and Facebook each week as well as in hotels in D.C. , and has a massive fan base to show for it. (and she can now add ine more to that!) I stumbled upon her one night accidentally by Googling “BEATLES PIANO”. Her interpretations absolutely mesmerized me personally, and she plays EVERY genre imaginable.... Although I focus more on Albany NY area talent, I just HAD to make an exception. Search her name on YouTube and sit back and you’ll see what I mean...And if you check it out on Sundays, you’ll see her LIVE taking requests! But before you do all that, please take a listen and share if you care! ( I even wrote her a theme song because “NOONA” rhymes with where I live.. NISKAYUNA!). I couldn’t resist as I am now a HUGE fan, and you will be too!
It’s a nostalgic affair on this week’s episode. Kam Raslan is joined by BFM darlings Azura Rahman and Ezra Zaid. In the light of Malaysia’s political chaos, Kam began the show with the imagery behind politicians – abled administrator versus patronage. The trio discussed which type of politicians are Malaysians more inclined towards, memes from the political turmoil and Milo truck amongst others. Then, noona Azura lightened the mood with a K-Pop 101 session. Also, fangirling to K-pop idols in your 30s? It’s a-okay! Wrapping up the show and his 9 eventful years in BFM, Ezra talked about ghosting and goodbyes. So, this is his proper send off – we wish him all the best! Annyeong!

Though English language searches only pull up travel advisories and articles about terrorism, Pattani Thailand has one of South East Asia's most vibrant art and activist communities. We headed down to Pattani to interview some of these artists and activists for their thoughts on Art, Islam, Gender, Feminism and to present a more nuanced understanding of this historically and culturally rich area of Thailand. We spoke to Anticha Sanchai about her incredible story on opening the feminist and progressive Book store: Buku Books. Anticha talks about moving from Chiang Mai to Pattani, how she became a feminist, and her work founding the Buku Football club: a gender inclusive football team that allows muslim boys and girls, of any gender or sexual identity, to learn empowerment through sports. We also spoke briefly to Noona of Oxfam about her time in Pattani as compared to her home in Krabi. Our conversation centers on Islam, what it means to be a Muslim Feminist and the challenges of raising awareness of domestic violence in Pattani. If you like what we're doing, reach out! Jaeki says: “Ryan Chow’s skills as a physical therapist are on point. We first met as friends and I was impressed by his knowledge on nutrition and body movement. So I booked several sessions with him and they were worth every penny. Ryan was insightful ‘bout every detail pertaining to muscle usage and taught me distinct techniques (e.g., Turkish Get-Up) and forms to better optimize my physical health. Son dropped so many quotables during this podcast recording, but here’s one gem: ‘Consistency is king, not intensity.’ Nah’mean? Listen and learn.” Follow Ryan on Instagram at @doctachow Shot out to the sponsor Noona’s Ice Cream! Noona means “big sister” in Korean.
