With no MLB during the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic, I had to get my baseball fix elsewhere. It opened my eyes to a bunch leagues all around the world. I'm currently watching the CPBL (Go UniLions!). I've also talked about Baseball Bundesliga, ABL, KBO, NPB, and MLB & MiLB. I love a good mascot (see Sababoy & Lion).
This interview is from November of 2020. I chat with Daniel Shih about that historic season, his role managing the Twitter account for the CPBL, and more. I hope this look back gets you excited for this new season. Happy Opening Day!
I was happy to talk with Clive Hsu again for one of my last episodes about the 2020 CPBL season. Clive is one of the English language broadcasters, but he added so much more than that to this CPBL season. We were also joined by Clive's son, Hudson, who gave me a pronunciation lesson on some of the players names. It took me way longer than I wanted to finish this episode, but better late than never. It's a bit of a throw back now, and there is still one more to come. Happy Holidays & Happy New Year!
Scott Richmond has pitched all around the world. He has played in Taiwan, the USA, Canada, Australia, Italy, and more. Scott is also in the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. He loves to travel and spend time with his family. I really enjoyed my chat with Scott Richmond, and I hope you do too.
I had the pleasure of talking with Tim Melville, pitcher and barbecue expert. Tim currently pitches for the Uni Lions in the CPBL, and he spent last season with the Colorado Rockies. We talk about baseball, food, dancing, food, Taiwan, Sababoy, and more. Also an update on the Australian Baseball League, and a look at Vitilla.
I had the opportunity to speak with Ray Shieh, who is an interpreter for the Fubon Guardians in the CPBL. He worked with Manny Ramirez when Manny played in Taiwan for the then Eda Rhinos. Ray also attended the first game the CPBL ever played. He is super passionate and really loves what he does. It was such a pleasure to talk with him.
This is a mini episode. With no guest this week, I decided to "unbox" a pack of CPBL baseball cards on air. Then I profiled the players I found inside. Just trying something new. Also, fingers crossed that Su Chih-Chieh hits his 100th career home run soon.
Brock Dykxhoorn is a starting pitcher for the Uni Lions in the CPBL. He is also in the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. We talk about the ups and downs of a life in baseball, going through the mandatory quarantine in Taiwan, some of his favorite teammates, ice fishing, and more. Also; an update on the Australian Baseball League, a way to watch the NPB, a look at Baseball5, and some CPBL highlights.
Ryan Chen tells me how he got his job as an English language broadcaster for CPBL games on Eleven Sports Taiwan. We talk about his favorite players, Taiwan in the Little League World Series, Ryan's own podcast Taiwanese Proball, and more. I also share an update on Manny Ramirez in the Australian Baseball League, and I give a shout out to Mayaw Ciru who reached a big CPBL milestone.
I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Mitch Lively, a pitcher on the CTBC Brothers. Mitch has pitched all over the world. He's won a ton of awards, and he captivates viewers with his unique pitching moves. We talked about his career, his life in Taiwan, and more. I also share some exciting news about Manny Ramirez's possible return to playing baseball. Thanks as always to Klokwize for providing the music. And thanks to you for listening!
Clive Hsu tells me what it's like to be an English language broadcaster for the CPBL games. We also chat about his time as a baseball interpreter, players and mascots in the CPBL, and his signature home run call.
In this episode of Baseball World, I talk with Patti & Pottymouth, the hosts of the No Crying In Baseball podcast. We chat about the CPBL, "baseball boyfriends", rules, minor league team names, and more.
In episode 4 I welcome my first guest, Rob, who runs CPBLStats.com. We chat about baseball in Taiwan, players to watch for in the CPBL, the deformed balls, vacuum cleaner night, and more. I also talk about the return of the MLB, and a couple Korean baseball movies I watched.
The CPBL is heading into a short summer break, so I have to try and find somewhere else to get my baseball fix. I checked out the Baseball Bundesliga, the league in Germany, and Koshien: Japan's Field Of Dreams, a great documentary about the high school baseball tournament in Japan. But I still can't get enough CPBL so I also talk bout their use of the umpire cam, and I attempt to sing the UniLions theme song, Lion King, in Mandarin.
In the episode I talk about the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. I also talk more about the CPBL, because I'm pretty obsessed. I discuss my favorite player, Lin An-Ko, and a small issue the league had with "juiced balls". Thanks for listening!
In this first episode I talk about my new found love for baseball around the world, and my current obsession with the CPBL (Chinese Professional Baseball League). With the absence of the MLB, I've had to look elsewhere for my baseball fix, and I am so excited to learn about all the leagues from across the globe.
