We want your feedback and questions. Text us here. Most teams don't fail because they lack motivation, vision, or talent. They fail because they lack leadership. Mascot leaders bring energy, encouragement, and positivity, but over time, charisma without accountability erodes standards, drives away high performers, and stalls momentum. In this episode, you will learn the three key differences between mascots and true leaders, why over-inspiring can damage team culture, and how avoiding hard conversations quietly makes leadership irrelevant. We'll also unpack the real costs of low standards, why peak performers disengage first, and how accountability (not hype) is what creates sustainable traction.

Do Business. Do Life. — The Financial Advisor Podcast — DBDL
As a coach to independent financial advisors, I see a lot of advisors struggling with the same issue—they blend in with the advisor down the street. And when prospects can't see what makes you unique, it becomes a lot harder for them to understand why they should choose you over anyone else. That's why I loved today's conversation with Glenn Street. Glenn built one of the most differentiated businesses I've ever seen—Street Characters, the company behind many of the most iconic mascots in the NFL, NHL, MLB, and major college sports. But the real lesson from this episode isn't about mascots. It's about how he picked a niche, went deep, and created a level of expertise and service that big competitors couldn't match.Glenn didn't try to be everything to everyone. He focused on a narrow lane, understood his customers better than anyone else, and delivered a product and experience no one else in his space could touch. Advisors can do the exact same thing—especially in a market where most firms look and sound identical. When you specialize with intention, understand your audience on a deeper level, and build a brand that feels unmistakably yours, you become the advisor people talk about, remember, and seek out.3 of the biggest insights from Glenn Street…#1.) Niching Down in a Commoditized IndustryOne of the things I loved about Glenn's story is how he didn't try to compete with the Disneys of the world. He found a narrow lane—sports mascots—and went deeper than anyone else. That's exactly what most advisors need today. When you pick a niche and truly understand the people you serve, you stop blending in and start becoming the advisor everyone talks about.#2.) Core Values Don't Matter Unless You Actually Live ThemA lot of firms have core values, but very few bring them to life the way Glenn does. His team starts and ends their day with them. They use them to make decisions, solve problems, and hold each other accountable. It's a simple reminder that culture isn't something you write, it's something you practice.#3.) The Right Incentives Turn Good Teams Into Great OnesGlenn has built a culture where A-player behavior is recognized and rewarded—whether that's through peer shoutouts, clear performance targets, or a team trip to Mexico when they hit their goals. These aren't random perks; they're intentional systems that reinforce what “great” looks like. Steve Morse Interview : on Loss, Hope and Instrumental StorytellingTaken by an Angel: Steve Morse on Loss, Hope and Instrumental StorytellingIn this episode of the Now Spinning Magazine podcast, I sit down with legendary guitarist Steve Morse to dive deep into his new instrumental album Triangulation.Steve talks about the freedom of making a record with no industry expectations, the almost telepathic musical connection he shares with Dave LaRue, and how tracks like “Too Many Parts” grew into ambitious, multi-section odysseys. He also opens up about the deeply personal closing piece “Taken by an Angel”, recorded with his son Kevin in memory of Steve's late wife – a story of grief, love and hope told entirely through melody. We discuss adapting his technique as his hands change with age, why melody now matters more than ever in his writing, and how guest appearances from John Petrucci and Eric Johnson came together. If you're a fan of Steve Morse, Deep Purple, Dixie Dregs, or you're a guitarist who loves thoughtful, emotional instrumental music, this conversation is a must-listen.Triangulation is out now on Mascot – please support the music by picking up the CD or vinyl and, of course, by sharing this episode with fellow fans.Phil Aston | Now Spinning Magazine

Mascots are proving to have high value at little cost when it comes to establishing brand traction. How about all the insurance brands clearly benefiting from having a brand mascot like Liberty Mutual's, limu, imu, and Doug, which dominated in ad breakthrough messaging and branding in a market cast study. While All State, Mayhem, ranked first in likability and memorability, Progressives, Flo, excelled in message recall. While Geico's Gecko has maintained a 94% recognition rate and is a driving force in Geico becoming a leading US insurer. Research from Ipso shows that ads with brand characters perform six times better on brand recall than ads without double the attention of celebrity ambassadors. Jared checks in from Kansas City for Ticked Off Tuesday! He kicks off with a classic traveler's nightmare: thinking your phone's been charging all night, only to wake up to 3 percent. He suggests a new PTO policy that should cover “unplugged Mondays.” The Kansas City BBQ debate rages as everyone says you went to the wrong spot, stale late-show movie popcorn deserves jail, and he nominates Cleveland to rebrand as the Wild Things because Guardians has all the pizzazz of a bridge statue. Tech gripes abound, too, including a microwave clock that loses two minutes a month, and he asks Samsung to blink twice if it needs help. Rounding it out, Jared rails against checkout line hoverers who pile items onto your conveyor and tee box interlopers who park carts in your backswing. Got a grievance of your own?
