Welcome to Bytes and Bits where I talk about what I learn and learn while I talk. This podcast will focus on observations and opportunities that I come as a teacher and a student.
This is a practice run for an idea that I’m working on and how we realtors can utilize Alexa and voice user interface as well. This is not for real and it’s not been edited for sound so there’s noise from vehicles and my dogs. Ignore that
A short introduction to what’s been happening in the past couple weeks and what’s gonna be happening in the next few months and beyond. Specifically focusing on The Pretty Nerdy digital marketing and prepping for the next AWS certification.
Sharing about new opportunities that have come my way during the past couple of months of working on social media campaign for a candidate in the local primary election and expanding my services to other businesses for website development, social media and content marketing. It's something I've always found interesting but never really thought too much as a service to provide. Richard Branson says if you're given a new opportunity to just say yes and figure it out later. I tend to live my life by that. One of my go to resources for helping me understand more about social media and content marketing strategies is HubSpot Academy. It's a fantastic resources whether you're looking to provide a service for others or just simply curious. Check it out at https://academy.hubspot.com/.
In this episode I share my beliefs on what education is not and what it is (or at least should be). In this episode I talk about today’s experience as a volunteer at Trimble high school. When given the choice of doing something drag & drop vs hard coding they choose hard coding. Students are engaged in the process of learning - which is awesome!

The migraines were gone but there was brain fog today. It was still a good day. I had fun visiting a high school and showing them about Webflow. I also share why are using tools like this help developers become better in their trade by being able to focus more on SEO.
So today’s topic is mainly about two different things and I kind of rambled on. The first one that I had a migraine but it didn’t kill me so that’s an awesome thing. Fingers crossed that my migraine doesn’t return tomorrow when I do a school visit. Super excited to show the kids Webflow! Finally I share some of the things that I learned from the podcast that I listen to this morning from CS50.
Making a quick podcast episode so Alexa will accept my Flash Briefing RSS feed (but that's another story)... I actually meant to do this podcast last night talking about TILT framework that I've been learning more about as a way to provide a better learning experience to the students and make me a more effective teacher. TILT stands for Transparency in Learning and Teaching. The book that I'm reading can be found on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/Transparent-Design-Education-Teaching-Leadership/dp/1620368234
Last week was full of PD, grants and learning. This week it’ll be AWS, PWA, and finishing up a couple of web sites.
Discussion this evening after finishing my run and how it’s important to make smarter choices to help ensure long term success. The same also goes for learning to code. Don’t try to drink from the fire hose to learn all there is at once. Take it one sip at a time to learn one or two things at a time.
I received the results of my latest Alexa Skill Certification submission and it failed. I honestly wasn’t surprised and it’s great because they are telling me where I went wrong!
Discuss my process and progress with creating an Alexa ISP skill for the Devpost Hackathon. Failure is a good thing.
Living recklessly can be a good thing. Letting go and letting God can lead to results you we never dreamed of.
After completing and learning results of HBDI analysis I learned I was high on the analytical and planning side and mediocre on goal setting and taking risks. After being a little offended I thought about it some more and decided to take some steps out of my comfort zone.
I share some insights on the power of play that I’ve seen with my students this week.
More interest in CSFirst with Google classes has me wondering if pendulum for girls in STEM swung too far.
