Explore the early days of Disney's foray into video games, focusing on the company's collaboration with Sierra On-Line during the 1980s. The episode covers the background of Disney's interest in emerging technology under CEO Ron Miller, the animation studio's response to the home video and gaming boom, and how Sierra On-Line grew from a family-run business into a leader in graphic adventure games. Listeners will hear about the creation of classic games like Mystery House and the influence of pioneers Ken and Roberta Williams, as well as Sierra's partnerships with Jim Henson (for The Dark Crystal) and with Disney for educational “edutainment” software. The episode also discusses the development of titles such as Winnie the Pooh in the Hundred Acre Wood, Mickey's Space Adventure, Donald Duck's Playground, and The Black Cauldron. Eric explains the challenges of licensing Disney IP, why Sierra eventually moved on from Disney collaborations, and how shifts in Disney leadership impacted the future of Disney video games. This is part one of a series on Disney gaming history, with future episodes covering Disney's relationship with Capcom and the rise of the Disney video game empire. On this special episode of B-Ball Radio, Boston and Celtics historian Dart Adams joins Eric Newman, as they celebrate the late great Reggie Lewis, who passed away 32 years ago on July 27, 1993. Over three decades later Reggie's impact is still being felt in Boston and across Celtics nation. Taking the torch from Larry Bird, battling Michael Jordan head-to-head, and becoming one of the best two-way players in the league, Reggie was a rising star on and off the floor as his community presence and generosity was as impressive as his jumper. One of the NBA's greatest what ifs, Reggie became Captain of the Celtics in 1992, before what would shockingly be his final season. Our friends are back! Charlie and Maggie return to Writing in Progress as we reveal and react to Writer's Playground's 11th set of prompts. Not only did we enjoy some (read: a lot) banter and laughs for nearly an hour and a half... but in the most recent Writer's Playground challenge, MM placed 3rd and Charlie received an honorable mention, so they're insight is especially valuable. We try to learn from the best!Full disclosure (Justin here): I had the intention of releasing this episode while the competition was ongoing. However, enough life things got in the way... it became clear I would only have time to write a story *OR* edit/publish/post this episode last week. After DNFing the last challenge, I was determined to get something turned in this time, and trust me... I just barely did. So that's why this episode is releasing the day *after* the conclusion of the comp. We hope you enjoy it all the same, and maybe it can help the long wait for results to go just a tiny bit faster. :)Reminder to anyone who may be involved in the judging process for Writer's Playground: we do workshop a few specific ideas in this episode, so please don't listen until after the conclusion of the judging period. Finally, we need to plug our Patreon, we'd be so honored to have you as a member of our community. It was my honor recently to speak with music writer Andrew Wild, who has written books about the likes of Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Dire Straits, and Pink Floyd, as well as about the iconic Live Aid concert festival. Andrew just released his second book about the 1980s "neoprog" era in England, chronicling six British bands that kept the progressive rock torch alive when the 1970s bands were either fading out or pivoting to more pop-oriented sounds. Those bands are: Marillion, IQ, Pallas, Pendragon, Twelfth Night, and Solstice. The book, A Playground of Broken Hearts: the Progressive Rock Revival 1984 to 1989, is a sequel to his A Mirror of Dreams: the Progressive Rock Revival 1981 to 1983. Andrew spoke to me about his music history, how he came to write about these six bands, how those groups kept the prog scene alive, and much more (including his upcoming book about Big Big Train!). This letter pulses with emotion as Paul defends his ministry, confronts critics, and pleads with the church to embrace true gospel leadership marked by humility, weakness, and grace. In this season, we explore the drama, pain, and beauty of a pastor fighting for the hearts of his people—and the God who reconciles us through it all.
In this video, we explore how Wall Street firms, REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts), and private equity giants are reshaping housing markets—treating homes as hedge funds and tenants as revenue streams. The result? Displacement, skyrocketing rents, and the collapse of housing as a public good. But it doesn't have to be this way. What if we took housing out of the hands of corporate landlords and made it public infrastructure—like schools, libraries, and transit systems?

We are now reflecting on one of our favorite offbeat mashups: that time we explored What We Do in the Shadows, the mockumentary about New Zealand or Staten Island's most lovable vampire roommates. The movie and later developed TV show actually sucked us into some pretty powerful reflections on teaching and learning. From Colin Robinson's energy vampire tendencies—to Laszlo's chaotic charm and Nandor's eternal quest for finding his why, we found ourselves asking: What does it really mean to lead, to learn, and to live… forever… in the classroom? So let's take time unearthing What We Do in the Shadows of the classroom and see what's changed since we last aired.
iman Rapetti speaks to Dr. Shaheda Omar, Clinical Director at the Teddy Bear Foundation, who says the real danger isn’t just what children are watching — it’s what they do with it, and how it’s reshaping their understanding of sex, consent, and empathy. She joins us to unpack the behavioural shifts, what’s enabling this unchecked exposure to porn, and what urgently needs to be done to protect vulnerable children. Presenter John Maytham is an actor and author-turned-talk radio veteran and seasoned journalist. His show serves a round-up of local and international news coupled with the latest in business, sport, traffic and weather. As the Founder and Managing Partner of One Wealth Advisors, David Steele sets the strategy, vision, and culture for the firm, leveraging his nearly 30 years in finance and as an entrepreneur. A person of many interests, he manages to balance logic with creativity through his varied unexpected activities. David has worked hard to help build a firm that acts as a fiduciary for our clients, always placing the interests of those we serve above everything else. The firm's north star is helping people lead happier and more peaceful lives. Though his primary role is Managing Partner of One Wealth Advisors, he is also the Founder and a Principal Partner of the Flour + Water Hospitality Group as well as an avid supporter of local arts and cultural organizations. He is on the board of both Playground, a non-profit playwright incubator, and Zero Food Print, an organization that works with restaurants all over the world that are committed to fighting climate change. Constantly on the move, often with his iPhone to his ear, David can be found alternately wandering the streets of New York City or snowboarding the backcountry runs of Lake Tahoe. Contrary to popular belief, he actually does sleep.
